Scholarship for Golfers
My golf journey started when I was 5 years old. My mother had me in many sports, basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, and golf. At the age of 8, I started to play tournaments for the US Kids. The tournaments were so much fun that by the age of 10, I decided to leave all other sports I played and put all my focus on golf. I expanded my tournaments and played for the Met Junior PGA and Hurricane Junior Golf. In 2019, at the age of 12 and in 7th grade, I became the 3rd position on the varsity golf team. This was a huge accomplishment. My mom would drive me to and from the games because I wasn’t allowed to be on the bus with the high school kids. At the end of the season, I was made MVP. However, during the first several months playing with the team my mom got breast cancer and my tournament golf stopped for 2 years until she recovered. Stopping golf was the hardest decision because my mom was my caddie, but I knew at that time that she needed my help and was there for me when I needed her for my golf. My game suffered averaging 93 in most tournaments but with my determination to practice I knew my game would get better with time. I am now 15 years old and started playing in the AJGA and some junior amateur tournaments allowing me to qualify for bigger events. My golf scores have improved, averaging 75, still working at getting them lower. This year, I also made the varsity team for my high school as a 9th grader helping them win counties. My mom and I decided to take some road trips and play in some college prep tournaments hosted at Duke University and Colgate University. I also attended some college camps in Virginia meeting with the coaches to discuss the day and life of Division 1 level athletes. We will be traveling this year to see more colleges and play in tournaments outside my region. Golf has taught me that not everything goes as planned which is the best lesson in life. I plan to practice more each day to get better both in golf and academics so hopefully I can get recruited to continue playing golf in college and possibly turn Pro. Golf is very important to me because it has taught me many life lessons, such as being better focused, and patient, it has taught me how to be a better person at judging certain situations. I hope you enjoyed reading about my golf journey and why it is important to me.
