The significance of this goes beyond just personal fulfillment. I want to help break down barriers and create a fairer society by combining what I learn in school with hands-on experience. The systemic issues that black children face, like bias in education and the criminal justice system, contribute to a cycle of disadvantage that needs to be addressed Giving back to my community is a big part of who I am. As a black woman, I've seen firsthand the obstacles and prejudices our children encounter. Black kids often don’t get the same understanding when it comes to their anger or other negative emotions. Society tends to see black girls as angry and dramatic and black boys as troublemakers and cunning. This can really hurt their self-confidence and make them feel like they don’t belong.
