Bio

My life goal is to become an oncology pediatric nurse. I choose this nursing pathway because of the passing of my younger brother. I am going to University of Nebraska-Medical Center. I am very passionate about helping out my community especially because I come from a low-income minority family. I want to be able to support people who are in need. My other hobbies are that I love the outdoors. I love to hike, go fishing, and even just stare at the stars up in the night sky away from the big city.

One of the most significant events in my life, helping me decide on my career path, was the passing of my little brother when he was born. Before coming to the U.S., my mom was pregnant but had little care for her pregnancy since we lived in a refugee camp. Health care in the refugee camp was scarce to say the least. My brother was born when we got to the U.S. and died four days after. The doctor told us that he wasn't going to survive. Because of the lack of health care my mom received, my younger brother was born with many health issues but the most major one was that he had a hole in his heart. I still remember when my mom told me to check on him. I told her he was asleep. My mom got up and checked. He wasn't sleeping; he had passed away. Feeling like I couldn't understand anything and having no power to help my little brother made me determined to learn about how and why he died because being young I didn’t understand many things. I made me curious and wanted to understand more about his condition. My mom suffered a lot during this time, losing a child that she carried or nine months. I could see how much his death impacted my family. My little brother has inspired me to pursue a career in nursing to help people get the correct information and care to prevent unnecessary death. That is why I will one day become an Oncology Pediatric Nurse. To be able to help families and their children in their desperate times of need and be there for them with open arms is what I strive for in my future. To let them know that they are not alone and my arms with always be open to them. The experiences in my life have been the reason I choose to go on a journey that will help me grow. It has given me the drive and ambition to keep on going even when giving up sounds easier. I know that even though it seems hard right now in the present time, if I give up, I will regret it for the rest of my life. I will up on pushing myself to my fullest potential so that my past me can be proud of my future self and that my future self can proudly tell my past self that I reach my dreams and goals of becoming an amazing nurse that people feel safe around have provide them with the help and trust that they need.
