I have a impact in my life that lead to my career in nursing. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease) in 6th grade. It changed my whole life because for months and months doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me and I couldn’t go to school my whole 6th grade year. I could barely walk, eat, bathe myself and had dropped down to 50 pounds. Until one day I started to bleed out and was rushed to the hospital. They then transferred me to Washington, d.c. Children’s National Hospital where I met Dr. Khon. She reviewed my charts and instantly diagnosed and admitted me. I was in the hospital for a month trying to learn how to do things on my own again and to eat. So they set up a list of goals for me to meet to go home. I started to do things on my own but I still wasn’t eating. Then I had finally started to eat after my doctors and family encouraged me and ate with me. Since I had reached my goals Dr.Khon said I could go home on October 29th. I was so excited about this news and it was on my uncle’s birthday but little did I know this day would turn upside down before the sun could rise. My mom received a phone call in the middle of the night from my grandma. I couldn't hear what she had said to my mom because the phone wasn’t on speaker but my mom started screaming and crying. My other grandma that was in the hospital with us went to check on her to see what was going on. My mom had said that my grandma called to say my great uncle that called, checked, and was so worried about me had passed. I was so devastated but I knew I was coming home and God had done everything for a reason. The funeral was a week after I had got out of the hospital. I decided that the lord gave me this voice and he didn’t let me survive all the things the devil was throwing at me for nothing. I knew I wanted to sing but everyone thought it was so soon because I was just in the hospital but I wasn’t letting nothing or no one stop me. So I sang “I love you lord” at my great uncle's funeral. It amazed everyone especially being that I was just so sick and had just got out of the hospital. I went back to school when 7th grade started and I never gave up. I always pushed for straight A’s and dedicated myself to school because I didn’t want to get behind since I missed my 6th grade year. It also made me want to be a pediatric travel nurse because Dr.Khon saved my life and I want to help give back and save other kids lives like she did for me. Now I'm a 12th grader with honors, advanced diploma, I’ll have my CNA license before I graduate, and I graduate from my high school and ESCC. This scholarship will help me so much and go towards my tuition since I wasn’t able to get it covered. I would really appreciate this. Thank you in advance.

I found this scholarship on bold.org and it would really help me pursue my career and i’d really appreciate it because I recently found out I don’t have enough money for my tuition and to win this scholarship would help out tremendously. So thank you guys in advance.
Deborah Thomas Scholarship Award
As a future pediatric travel nurse, my mission is to bring compassionate, high quality healthcare to children in underserved and vulnerable communities across the country. I believe that every child, regardless of their location or circumstances, deserves access to safe, effective, and empathetic care. By combining my passion for pediatrics with the flexibility of travel nursing, I plan to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of children and their families.
One of the most powerful ways I can contribute is by filling critical staffing gaps in hospitals and clinics that are experiencing shortages. Many rural and inner-city healthcare facilities struggle to maintain adequate pediatric care due to a lack of specialized staff. By traveling to these areas and offering my skills where they are most needed, I can help reduce the strain on overworked healthcare teams and ensure children receive timely, attentive treatment. This not only improves health outcomes but also strengthens the community’s overall trust in the healthcare system.
Beyond clinical care, I also hope to serve as a source of emotional support and education for families. Illness can be an incredibly frightening experience for both children and their parents. I aim to use my training and empathy to not only treat medical conditions but also to comfort and empower families through clear communication and patient advocacy. By educating caregivers on preventive care, healthy habits, and early warning signs of illness, I can help improve long-term wellness in the communities I serve.
Travel nursing will also allow me to continually grow both personally and professionally. By working in diverse settings with varied populations, I will gain exposure to different cultures, medical challenges, and healthcare systems. This experience will enrich my practice, broaden my perspective, and equip me to deliver culturally sensitive and adaptive care no matter where I go.
Ultimately, I want to be remembered not just as a nurse who traveled, but as someone who made a meaningful difference in the lives of children one hospital, one family, and one smile at a time. I believe that healing starts with kindness, and I am committed to bringing that kindness with me wherever my journey as a pediatric travel nurse takes me. Through this path, I am confident I can leave a positive mark on the world, one child at a time. My doctors and nurses inspired me with how helped me when I was sick and I want to be able to do that for sick children around the world.
Desiree Jeana Wapples Scholarship for Young Women
I want to be a pediatric travel nurse because I was that sick kid who wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for my pediatric doctors and nurses. Being a pediatric travel nurse after graduation will allow me to bring essential medical care to our underserved communities around the world like my pediatric doctor did for me. I could help fill staffing shortages at hospitals or doctors offices so people wouldn’t have to wait months before they could get an appointment for their child. I will also listen to and take in consideration what the families say because a parent can tell their child and when they are sick or not. Another reason being when I was sick my family wasn’t heard when we tried to tell the doctors and nurses to check for the disease I ended up being diagnosed with until I got so sick where I couldn’t do anything for myself anymore. Helping children not only put smiles on their faces but it makes them happy despite everything they are going through. I was the patient so I’d only treat mine the best way I can. Lastly, I love helping and giving back which is why I want to be a pediatric travel nurse. My doctor Dr.Khon has made a positive impact on my life and career. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease) in 6th grade. It changed my whole life because for months and months doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me and I couldn’t go to school my whole 6th grade year. This is what made me know I wanted to be a pediatric travel nurse and wanted to help sick children like she did me. She saved my life and helped me turn it completely around and if I could have that impact on someone else that’s what I strive to do. With that being said this scholarship will also help me be able to make this happen. Without it I can’t afford going to college and it’s sad that money can determine someone’s career and how much they want to help in the world.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I want to be a pediatric travel nurse after I graduate college because I was that kid who was sickly and the doctors in my hometown couldn’t figure out what was wrong. When they transferred me to another state and I got this doctor from another country, she figured out what was wrong with me instantly and it inspired me to want to do the same for sick kids around the world. I want to help make a difference and helping sick kids is a great way to do it. I already take nursing and will have my CNA license by the time I graduate this year. I want to get my Masters of Science in Nursing, Registered nurse at Christopher Newport. I’m very dedicated to this goal and I will work hard to get there. Going to college will help me be one step closer to this goal because without college you can’t work in healthcare. This job also combines my two passions, caring for children and exploring the world. I will also gain diverse experiences, grow professionally, and positively impact different countries and communities. This is also a job that’s very flexible and more of my preference because I can chose what job I take and where I take it. College plays a crucial role in preparing me to become a pediatric travel nurse by providing the education, clinical experience, and professional connections necessary for success in this field. First and foremost, college provides the academic foundation required to become a registered nurse. Through coursework in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pediatric nursing, I will gain a deep understanding of how to care for children with various medical conditions.Being a pediatric travel nurse after graduation will allow me to bring essential medical care to our underserved communities around the world like my pediatric doctor did for me. Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
I never really realized how much college would be. I just knew I wanted to go so I could live my dream life. As I start to see how much college is I know me and my family can’t afford it so this scholarship would really help. I live with my grandmother, grandfather and two little sisters (12 and 15). My grandparents raised me because when I was in 6th grade my mother got arrested and we had to switch schools, move states, and start a whole new life we weren't used to and it changed our life not just physically but financially also. My grandfather is the breadwinner and workers at Purdue to provide for the 5 of us. While my grandma does part time work in the summer at a Kitchen at the bay field station, she’s home with us and helping us during the school year. They have to pay the bills, provide us food, essentials and clothes all off of one income. Now we have the burden of my college even though they are happy. I know they are worrying about how I’m going to pay for college. I just want to be able to help my grandparents get me through college because they’ve helped me my whole life and if I can get through college I can give back to them. I can’t help save money how I want to for college because I can’t work without a car and I have multiple health issues. I have Crohn's disease, eye problems, I just had a surgery on my hip, and I have at least one or sometimes multiple doctors appointments that are across the Chesapeake bay bridge each month. My pop pop sometimes has to miss a day of work and he doesn’t get paid for the day because my appointments could take up a whole day. Having a chronic illness becomes very expensive. I also have to pay $500 for a acceptance fee to Christopher Newport which is the college i’m going to. In hoping with this scholarship ill be a first generation college student. Money shouldn’t always be the reason people are successful or have the job they have. If I get this scholarship it would be very much appreciated and not taken for granted. Everyone deserves a chance to get to their dream no matter the cost. What would you do if your dreams depended on something entirely out of your control? For me the answer has always been to work harder which is why I strive for straight A’s and a high gpa but sometimes hard work alone isn’t enough. I want to go to Christopher Neeport University and get my Master of science in nursing then go and be a RN pediatric travel nurse. I want to be a pediatric travel nurse after I graduate college because I was that kid who was sickly and the doctors in my hometown couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Kelly O. Memorial Nursing Scholarship
From a young age, I’ve been drawn to helping others, especially children. Whether I was caring for my younger siblings or volunteering at local events, I always found purpose in offering support and comfort to those in need. That innate compassion, combined with a fascination for health and science, led me to pursue a career in nursing. Over time, my focus narrowed to pediatric nursing a field that perfectly combines my nurturing nature, clinical interest, and desire to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. As I move forward in my nursing journey, my goal is to become a pediatric travel nurse, a role that allows me to care for children across the country while responding to healthcare needs wherever they are most urgent.
Pediatrics is more than just a specialty to me it’s a calling. Children are incredibly strong, but they face unique challenges when it comes to illness, injury, and hospitalization. I want to be the nurse who eases that experience, not only by delivering quality care but also by offering encouragement, patience, and hope to both the child and their family. The relationships formed with families in pediatric care are special, built on trust and compassion, and I am eager to be part of those healing moments.
Travel nursing adds a unique dimension to this calling. I’m excited by the opportunity to work in different hospitals, clinics, and communities, especially those facing shortages of pediatric staff. It’s a role that requires flexibility, quick thinking, and resilience qualities I’ve worked hard to develop. Traveling also allows me to learn from a wide range of healthcare professionals, experience diverse patient populations, and continuously challenge myself to grow both personally and professionally.
To prepare for this step, I’ve pursued a strong academic foundation in nursing, with focused coursework in pediatric care, developmental psychology, and pharmacology. My clinical rotations have included hands-on experience in pediatric units where I practiced everything from administering medications to comforting families during difficult conversations. I’ve also volunteered with organizations that support children with disabilities and chronic conditions, which has taught me the importance of listening, advocacy, and cultural sensitivity. These experiences have shaped me into a compassionate, dependable, and adaptive future nurse.
Looking ahead, I’m committed to becoming a pediatric travel nurse who makes a difference not just in one hospital or one town, but in many. I want to bring warmth, skill, and hope to children and families facing health challenges, no matter where they are. This is not just a career path for me it’s the way I plan to leave a lasting impact in the world.
