My name is Nethaniel Stepp, and I am a senior at Kearsarge Regional High School in Sutton, NH as well as a student at Concord Regional Technical Center. I have grown up in a family of mechanics, which greatly helped to spark my interest in the automotive industry from a young age. In recent years I have attended Concord Regional Technical Center to further my knowledge of the industry, and through that I learned many new skills through hands on experience, as well as the high demand that there currently is for mechanics all across America, especially in diesel. During my time at CRTC I have become ASE certified in Engine Repair, Steering and Suspension, and soon Electrical. I have recently completed an 8 week internship at McGovern Hyundai in Concord NH, one of many great experiences Concord Regional Technical Center has provided for me. Through this I was able to get even more experience while learning first hand about what it's like working in a repair shop. After graduating from high school, I will be attending White Mountains Community College in Littleton, NH for the 2 year Heavy Diesel Technology degree. In this course I will learn how to work on heavy diesel equipment, which will allow me to provide much needed knowledge and experience to an industry facing a huge shortage of technicians. After graduating from WMCC's heavy diesel program, I plan to either work for a dealership or independent shop, where I will hopefully be able to obtain my Commercial Drivers License while also gaining even more hands on experience. From here I want to start working towards becoming a master technician, which requires several years of hands on experience as well as several diesel specific ASE certifications. After becoming a master technician, I would strongly consider looking into opening my own independent repair/parts shop. White Mountains Community College does not offer on campus housing, meaning that I will have to find off campus housing while attending. This is one main reason I am applying for scholarships, as this scholarship would greatly impact me by helping me to be financially independent, not having to stress about rent and tuition while attending school full time. This scholarship would also play a large role in my education, and help me to achieve all of the goals I have listed above. Thank you very much for considering me for this scholarship.
