Having a career in the arts is important to me because I know that it is my purpose in life. have been a musician since I was 5 years old. I grew up practicing drums on my father's drum set after school from age 5 until age 12. I then began a stint in my middle school's marching band as a tenor quad player before becoming a snare drummer. I played saxophone in high school at a small private Christian school. Throughout my formative years, music was always important to me and I know it has formed who I am as a person. I also spent 3 years as a touring drummer in a traveling orchestra and choir. This musical group went by the name of Celebrant Singers. They are an ecumenical orchestra and choir that performs contemporary orchestral works with Christian-themed lyrics. I traveled with them through approximately 25 states in the USA and to the countries of England, Spain, Portugal, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Through performing in these different countries and touring for months at a time, I further confirmed to myself that this is an occupation I am fully devoted and committed to pursuing long term. To be able to use my intelligence to create intricate and technical music compositions is the most amazing thing to me. I dream of creating musical works for millions of people to enjoy and identify with. I have a driving passion to be better at this every day and I know I can create great works. I have been inspired by composers before me, from Classical composers to contemporary EDM composers. Some of my inspirations include Scarlatti, Bach, Mozart, John Williams, James Horner, and Tim Bergling, more commonly known as Avicii. The desire to be a mastermind and understand the laws of music inside and out has motivated me to explore this career field. The Baroque and Classical periods of music are especially inspiring to me because of the technicality present in the music. Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas are some of my favorite pieces of music to listen to. Bach's fugues from The Well-Tempered Clavier are the greatest musical works ever created in my humble opinion. Mozaart's works are forever some of the most beautifully-crafted works created, while Beethoven's are some of the most dynamic. I believe a great career for me would be film score composition. Movies such as Star Wars and Titanic are so emotionally touching because of the soundtracks written for them. John Williams and James Horner are my biggest inspirations as they created the soundtracks for both of these movies, respectively. I believe I can touch the world through my work as a film score composer because I am passionate about crafting melodies and other melodic elements in a technical manner that also conveys energy and emotion. Whenever I hear music in any setting, I am listening to how the melodies interact with the other elements of the music. I have written original melodies, bass lines, percussion patterns, and arpeggios on FL Studio, a digital audio workstation. I will be attending California Baptist University in Riverside this fall 2023 semester. I am enrolled in the Composition for Stage and Screen program and aspire to complete my bachelor's degree in this program. This scholarship would help me greatly with financing my cost of tuition and board as a financially independent student from my parents. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
