WinnerBio
Hello, my name is Nehmiah Ives, and I am currently a freshman at Bethune-Cookman University, majoring in biochemistry. Throughout high school, I worked hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA while balancing soccer and track. Outside of academics, I have been an active member of my church choir and food pantry, as well as a volunteer for organizations dedicated to assisting veterans in the Central Florida area.
As I near the completion of my first semester in college, I have had the privilege of being part of something larger than myself by attending a Historically Black College and University. This experience has surrounded me with professors and peers who genuinely want to see me succeed, offered mentorship and guidance at every step. I have truly been empowered through my time in college.
My ultimate goal is to have a career with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), driven by my passion for studying diseases and finding cures. While I am on this learning journey, I am actively seeking internships and job opportunities that will prepare me for a successful future. I am deeply committed to understanding the struggles of those facing complex diagnoses and hope to find solutions that improve their quality of life.
As I continue my education and move toward my career goals, I am committed to giving back to my community. I will remain an advocate for those who are less fortunate, championing issues such as Black women’s health and the mental health of veterans. I am determined to use my skills, knowledge, and voice to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
