Hello my name is Nazir Treadwell. My whole life I have grown up in New Jersey in the amazing small town of Keyport. I feel I have been held to a standard, not only from my parents but from myself, for what I wanted to accomplish. I would always do all I could to succeed academically like making sure to always get homework done, studying for tests, and always going to my teachers if I ever needed help. Throughout my academic career, I have been able to maintain a high gpa, and with the encouragement of my parents I would expect no less of myself. When I hit high school, I knew it was time to take it up a notch, and with that, I was able to meet the mark that was set from day one. With that, my freshman year also happened to be covid year. With being inside all the time and away from teachers, that is something that did have an affect on me because I happen to be a hands-on learner that likes to have my teachers in my presence. Thankfully I was able to adapt with the times and kept open communication that helped keep me on the right track. One class that always stood out to me, especially in the earlier years of my youth was mathematics. I was always deemed pretty good at math and I actually enjoyed working with numbers and doing the equations. This love for math is actually what led me to my interest in business, and what gave me an outlook outside of football. Once I started to talk to my parents, other family members, and teachers I started to understand the different areas of business offered like marketing, finance, and even accounting. Obtaining success in any of these business fields is what I strive for. Being a successful business man will also help me take care of my family. Another way I would like to take care of the ones I love is through my athletic pursuit in football. I love the game of football. It has been not only elevating me as a player but as a person overall. I have learned countless lessons such as teamwork, how to be a leader, and responsibility. I have also been blessed with having coaches and role models that have taught me discipline, accountability, and reliability. From watching my brothers play, to playing the game myself, to watching countless highlights of players in the NFL, overtime my league aspirations only grew. While reading this essay, you may wonder why my business or football aspirations apply to this scholarship. The reason is because these things and more are what drives me to inspire others everyday. I always had hopes of doing these things on a Division 1 level, but I’ve been told by many that the chances of me accomplishing such a thing is unlikely coming out of a small town like Keyport. Well I took this as a challenge, continuing to do all I could to excel in the classroom while performing on the field and going to countless camps to bring exposure to my name. After months and years of putting in these efforts, I was finally able to do what a lot of people thought couldn’t be done, and that was to show that it is possible to do a lot with a little. Ever since this discovery I have not looked back and now I have a chance to inspire others to do the same… to dream bigger, see bigger, be bigger!
