Since I was a little girl, I went to the hospital very often. This included visits to either the emergency room or my frequent doctor appointments. There were times when I had to stay in the hospital for more than a day. During this time, the nurses took care of me by bringing me food and medicines. Registered nurses and neurologists have been a major part of my health from frequent hospital visits. When I was in my many and frequent hospital visits, I asked the nurses how to become a nurse. This was the first inspiration for my future career interest. I appreciate the nursing staff, and it would be a pleasure for me to help my patients in return. Nurses have changed my life in such a way, and I want to have an impact on other people's lives as well. Improving life and keeping people safe would allow me to do this. It must be a very rewarding feeling to be there in sad and happy moments with a patient, and I would like to be there as other nurses have been there for me. Since middle school, I have followed my interest in the healthcare pathway. I am in my high school’s NAF(National Academy Foundation) program, Project Lead the Way (PTLW), and Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS). I am taking rigorous, scientific courses. In the class I’m currently taking, Biomedical Innovation, I learned about public health and its importance. With the importance of vaccines and learning about how essential the nurses are, I became intrigued by public health. As a first-generation student, going to school and dreaming of attending college has been my motivation in life. I want to go to college to gain a higher education beyond high school and have more job opportunities. I would like to follow the healthcare path and attend a 4-year university. I would follow my career path with a major in nursing. I hope to attain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This would help me get a step closer to become a Public Health Nurse. Becoming a Public Health Nurse would be a great way to give back to my community. I don’t only want to take care of old people, or people with needs, but I would like to take care of a large group of people and educate others. I will support my family and the general public with their health needs by keeping them informed. Taking care and helping others makes me feel good in a way. I would help people in the way they helped me with my disability. In the future, I hope to help prevent diseases and find causes. Learning about diseases and viruses in AOHS has provided me with the insight needed to be sure a BSN is the career path for me. With a high demand in the future, there would be many job opportunities for me. After enjoying my college experience, my learning continues. I will be goal-oriented for my dream job and keep on working hard towards it.
