Barbie Dream House Scholarship
When asked to imagine Barbie’s Dream House, the preconceived notion is that the house has a hot pink facade, several open floors, and a slide that leads into a swimming pool at the bottom. To Barbie, this is the definition of “the perfect house” while living in the perfect world known as Barbie Land. But just like Barbie Land, this notion of “the perfect Dream House” is different for each individual. For my perfect Dream House, it wouldn’t involve hot pink and very twisty slides, instead it would look more like a modern farmhouse; a white exterior, wrap around porch, chickens, cows, and lots of flowers.
A Natalie Dream House would be located in the country, surrounded by fields of grass, trees, and multiple farm animals, with family and friends right down the road. The house itself would look like what most would call a modern day farmhouse. There would be a white brick exterior, with black and rock accents, and a porch along the front and back side. A porch swing would be in the front, for reading and taking time for myself. The interior would feature a sizable kitchen, to motivate myself to learn the skill of cooking. The back of the house would have an inground pool, with a hot tub and cabana for relaxation.
Even though Natalie’s Dream House is not as “fabuluos” or “extrordinary” as Barbie’s hot pink Dream House, it is perfect for me. Each and every individual has a distinct conception of the term “perfect.” My idea may be very simplistic, but to me, it is the “perfect” house with the “perfect” location and “perfect” features. My own personal Dream House!
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
When I was a little girl, my family and I would watch the Harry Potter movies all the time. Everytime we watched these extravagant films, I would invision myself as a Griffindor; brave, smart, and ready to save the day. However, after maturing in age and mind, I have come to realize that I will not indeed be a Griffindor as I intended, but instead would whole-heartedly be a Hufflepuff.
No matter how much my heart wants to deny it, claiming that I am a very brave and strong minded person, my brain says otherwise. I am not as brave as my heart intends me to be, and sometimes instead wishes for others to take the lead and allow me to follow behind. My heart along with my brain trains me to treat others the best I can, and as Sirus Black states in the movie "we've all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on." I choose to act on the light inside of me, treating others as best of my abilities.
Another characteristic that best described me would be dedicated. In any task handed and asked of me, I will do it with the best of my ability, whether it be from my teachers, or my parents. Dedication is a huge trait of being a Hufflepuff; along with kindness. What's the point of doing something if you are not going to do it right? We must all strive to do our best in each and everything we put our mind too. Otherwise, nothing will ever be done correctly, making dedication a huge factor in accomplishing this idea.
Finally, my last trait of Hufflepuff would be shyness. It's not that I don't like talking to people, but let's just say my social battery isn't the highest in the world. I have very low self esteem when it comes to making conversation with others, especially if we have just met. My confidence is slowly starting to rise, trying to face this fear of mine to become a better communicator towards others.
In conclusion, growing up has seemed to make me realize who I am as a person, and the effect I have towards others. By doing so, my brain as well as my heart have all decided that I am a perfect fit into the Hufflepuff House. I show kindness towards others, I am dedicated towards my work, and I am a shy communicator and experience low self esteem. All of which are a perfect stereotypical example of a Hufflepuff!
