While some people look up at the stars and see dots in the sky, I see endless opportunities to learn something new. What first drew me to science was curiosity. I have always liked to understand how things work and why. As I got older, that curiosity developed into my passion for astrophysics. I love that astrophysics combines science, with mathematics and discovery. It challenges people to solve difficult problems while exploring some of the biggest questions humanity has ever asked. I have done a rough estimate for how much it might cost to finish school where I am. Most community colleges cost about $4,000 a year with tuition and fees. By qualifying for a Pell Grant, I can cut that cost to $2,000 a year. But universities cost about 12,000 in tuition and fees, and I need about 8 years of schooling at least. My rough estimate is costing about $68,000 just for the first 8 years, but schooling typically goes for 8-11 years. Any part-time jobs I get and any scholarships I get will help me fund my way through my schooling. After earning my associate degree, I plan to transfer to a four-year university to complete a bachelor's degree in physics, astrophysics, or a related field. During this time, I plan to maintain strong grades, seek research opportunities, and work closely with professors who can help prepare me for graduate school. One time I remember helping someone was when I was picking up pizzas for my mom. What started as an errand turned into realizing how much a small act of kindness can mean to someone. When I arrived at the pizza place, there were several delays because the pizzas kept getting slightly overcooked. They were not completely burnt, but they were crispier than the employees wanted to give me. After remaking them multiple times and making me wait for about an hour, the employees felt bad about it and they gave me three extra pizzas and breadsticks for free. I had originally only got two pizzas, and I left the store with five pizzas; way more food than I knew what to do with. As I walked out to my car, I started thinking about what I should do with the extra food. That's when I noticed an older man sitting alone in a car not to far from mine. His clothes looked worn, and he seemed like he had been through a difficult time. What really caught my attention was that he was counting cash and coins in his hands as if he was trying to figure out whether he had enough money for lunch. Growing up in a low-income household with a single mother, I understand what it feels like when money is tight. My mom worked incredibly hard to provide for my sister and I, and there were many times when we had to be careful about every dollar we spent. My father chose not to be involved in my life and wanted nothing to do with me or my family. That being said, I always felt like I different than other kids. Other kids had this whole family to go home to, Meanwhile I'm going home to a single mom and my little sister. His absence affected me personally, and my mom was left with the financial struggle. It forced me to grow up much faster than my friends and faster than I should have. Although this experience was a painful part of my childhood, it taught me to be strong, to work hard for what I want, and that I wanted a different future for myself. Growing up without my dad left a hole in my life. There were many times when I questioned why he chose not to want me or wondered what it would be like to have a dad who supported and spent time me. Seeing my friends spend time with their fathers often reminded me of what I was missing. For a long time, I struggled with feelings. I wouldn't let my self feel them because I thought they made me feel weak and vulnerable. However, these experiences also taught me that my worth is not determined by someone else's choices. Over time, I learned to rely on myself and to be there to support my mom, sister, and those who genuinely cared about me. Their love and encouragement helped me develop the strength and confidence I needed to make it through life. Academically, my father's absence became the source of my motivation. I understood from a young age that if I wanted a different future, I would need to work hard and take my education seriously. There were times when balancing school with family responsibilities was difficult, especially as I watched my mother work tirelessly to support our household on her own. Instead of allowing my circumstances to discourage me, I used them to motivate me to succeed. I became determined to pursue a higher education and am on my way to become the first person in my family to attend college. Every academic achievement I have became proof to myself that I could overcome the obstacles in my life and create opportunities that were not always available to me growing up. Financially, my father's absence placed a significant burden on my family. As a single mother, my mom was responsible for providing everything for my sister and I. I witnessed firsthand how difficult it was to manage household expenses, pay bills, and provide opportunities for her children on a single income. Ambition "For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them. Men become builders by building and lyre players by playing the lyre. Similarly, we become just by doing just acts, temperate by doing temperate acts, brave by doing brave acts." - (Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics) Ambition is not defined by dreams, desires, or talent on its own. Ambition is defined by the actions you takes consistently to achieve a goal. In this passage from Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues that people are not born with excellence, and that it is something that is developed through practice and repetition. The underlying meaning to his message is that ambition only becomes meaningful when it is transformed into disciplined action. Instead of natural ability being viewed and associated with success, Aristotle teaches that achievement is the result of habits through persistence and constant effort. Aristotles examples may seem simple at first glance, however, the deeper meaning of the passage extends far beyond that mistaken simplicity. Growing up in a low income household with a single mother and my younger sister has shaped many of my goals, values, and ambitions. My mom worked relentlessly to provide my sister and I with everything we needed, always putting us before herself. She was so set on giving us everything we could ever want, but she was financially struggling even if she never let it show to use till we were grown up. Growing up in these conditions has its challenges but they also taught me perseverance, determination and the value of hard work. To me, being a first-generation college student means so much more than personal accomplishment. It’s about opportunity, about stability, about the chance to build a different future for my family. I am hopeful that through hard work, determination, and advancing my education, will change the course of my life by giving me opportunities that were not readily available to my family growing up. with my grandparents being from Russia, and my mom and her siblings moving to America with them when she was 12, Becoming the first in my family to go to college is my greatest achievement. Going to college will help me put an end to the on going financial struggle that my family has had to endure. I want to further my education to create a future where my family will never have to worry about finances  or if they will get the basic necessities. I believe that going to college will inspire my family to pursue their own dreams and that cercumstances don't define what you can or can not achieve. Being a first-generation college student is a huge accomplishment because I am doing something that no one in my immediate family has ever attempted. With the support of my mom, who has not attended college herself, I am pushed to achieve great things and to do something that will really benefit my future and my family.  I want to  be able to say that I did something hard, and I succeeded in finishing grad school. Because I am changing the course of my family's future by  pursuing a degree for my own personal achievement. I am creating chances by going to college that were not accessible to my mom or my grandparents. My achievements might inspire my younger sister, future children, and any other family members to think that a college education is possible.

Calculus is one of the most important subjects in STEM as it is the foundation for understanding how the world and universe behaves. Because at the core, is the mathematics of change. This ensures that scientists, engineers, and researchers can comprehend the concepts of motion, growth, rates of change, and numerous other phenomena that cannot possibly be fully explained using fundamental algebra or geometry alone. Calculus is the foundation for an abundance of the discoveries and technologies that now shape our modern world. I believe the most widely recognized example of the importance of calculus comes from Sir Isaac Newton. In his attempt to understand motion and gravity, Newton invented the concept of calculus. The common story is that he witnessed an apple fall from a tree and was curious as to why the object fell toward the Earth and not in an alternate direction. To answer questions like this, Newton needed a new kind of math that could describe quantities that changed continuously. Calculus provided him the tools to explain motion, acceleration and gravitational forces, resulting in his laws of motion and law of universal gravitation. These discoveries fundamentally altered science and man's understanding of the universe. Today, calculus remains a fundamental part of nearly every STEM field of study. Engineers use it to design secure and efficient bridges, airplanes, vehicles and buildings. It is used by physicists to study forces, energy and the conduct of matter. Computer scientists use calculus in machine learning, artificial intelligence and computer graphics . Biologists use it to model population growth and the spread of disease. Even economists use calculus to study markets and predict trends.” Calculus is a valuable tool in various scopes of practice with The ability to comprehend and manipulate change . I am fascinated by space and astrophysics, and I think that calculus is extremely significant because it helps explain the laws that govern the universe. Calculus can describe the movements of planets around stars , the formation of galaxies , the behavior of black holes , and the expansion of the universe . Without it, many of the equations scientists use to understand space wouldn't be feasible. It is calculus that provides us the mathematical language to ask questions about the cosmos and to predict how celestial objects could behave. Calculus is more than simply a math subject. It signifies the potential for man to fully understand and clarify the natural world through logic and observation. It is show cased as the foundation of some of history’s greatest scientific discoveries and remains the driving force behind today’s advancements. I believe that calculus is one of the most important foundations of STEM and one of the most powerful tools ever developed to understand our universe. Astrophysics and pretty much anything space related has always been one of the most important interests in my life because it allows me to question and better understand the world around me. STEM ( or Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a field built on discovery and innovation, and I have always been fascinated by the way things work. Out of all the STEM subjects, astrophysics stands out to me the most because it combines the science and mathematics of the universe, but also puts a sense of curiosity and discovery into one field. My passion for astrophysics comes from my interest in space, a love for problem-solving, and my desire to contribute to scientific discovery sometime in the future. Even when i was younger, I’ve always been fascinated by space and the mysteries that exist beyond Earth. I would often think about questions that scientists are still trying to answer today, such as how the universe began, what exists inside black holes, and whether there is life beyond our planet. The idea that the universe is constantly expanding and contains billions of galaxies is both exciting and inspiring to me. Unlike many other subjects, astrophysics pushes people to think beyond everyday life and imagine possibilities that are difficult to fully understand. I enjoy learning about topics that challenge me intellectually because they encourage curiosity and deeper thinking. Another reason I am passionate about STEM is because I enjoy problem-solving and critical thinking. Many STEM subjects require patience, determination, and creativity. My goal of pursuing a PhD in astrophysics comes from my desire to continue learning and eventually contribute to scientific research. For me, some of the things that make me stand out are also being left-handed; and growing up in a Russian family where my grandparents barely speak English. While these details may seem small at first, they have had a major impact on my identity and the way I interact with others. Being left-handed has always made me feel a little different from the people around me. Since most of the world is designed for right-handed people, I often had to adjust to things in my own way. In school, I noticed that desks, scissors, and even the way teachers demonstrated writing were made with right-handed students in mind. At times this was frustrating, but it also taught me how to adapt and solve problems independently. Instead of viewing it as a disadvantage, I learned to embrace it as something that made me unique. It became a reminder that being different is not something to hide. The other major influence in my life has been growing up in a Russian family. My grandparents barely speak English, and my mom can speak English but it's more broken, which created experiences that many people my age may not understand. As I grew older, I often helped translate words or explain things for them in public places or during conversations with friends. These moments taught me patience and responsibility at a young age. They also helped me understand how difficult it can be for people to adjust to a new language and culture. Even with the language barrier, my grandparents have had a strong influence on my life. Through them, I learned the importance of family and hard work. Russian culture places a strong value on loyalty and determination, and those lessons have been passed down to me through stories, traditions, and everyday experiences. Watching my grandparents and family work hard despite challenges inspired me to appreciate the opportunities I have and motivated me to work toward my goals. Growing up in this environment also affected my financial education. Instead of learning about money through classes or financial programs, I learned through my real-life experiences. I learned how important budgeting is, how quickly debt can grow and become overwhelming, and why saving money matters even if it is only small amounts at a time. In the future, I plan to use these lessons ive learned to create a better life for not only myself but my future family. I want to continue growing my financial knowledge by learning more about budgeting tactics, how to save, credit, and smart investing; and I plan to make smarter financial decisions so I can avoid the struggles my mom experienced.
