WinnerWe were down one point with twenty-three seconds left. In the game of lacrosse one point is nothing, so none of us were nervous. I positioned myself by the goal and saw my teammates miss three times, which in turn left us two seconds on the clock. In that moment everything slowed down. Instead of being frozen in fear, it felt like my body was following a program and I was moving like I was coded. I drifted up, leaving my defender, and at the right time I came crashing towards the goal where my teammate placed the ball perfectly in my stick leading to the game tying goal. For my dad's birthday, I told him we would win the game. Winning this game in overtime was simply a present to my father.
For me, thriving through college means developing the skills and discipline necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My goal is to become an orthodontist who builds confidence in those who may have never felt it before by correcting their smiles. This goal begins with academic commitment and personal growth. College represents an opportunity to strengthen my work ethic, deepen my understanding of science, and ultimately solidify my interpersonal skills to one day gain a patient's trust. Each challenge ahead is merely preparation for what is to come.
My drive to succeed is rooted in my belief that intention and effort shape outcomes. I strongly believe that the energy you put out into the universe is what you receive in return. When I approach tasks with focus, optimism, and consistency, I see the progress that follows. This mindset allows me to view obstacles as lessons rather than setbacks or punishments. It keeps me motivated and reminds me why persistence is so important. This outlook also influences how I interact with my community. I strive to be a positive presence by supporting others, encouraging growth, and leading by example. I understand how meaningful encouragement can be, especially for those struggling with confidence. Whether through leadership, involvement, or everyday interactions, I aim to contribute to an environment where people feel supported and motivated to improve themselves.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to dedicate myself more fully to my education by easing financial stress and allowing me to focus on long-term goals. More importantly, it would represent an investment in my commitment to giving back. I intend to use the education and opportunities gained to help others feel confident and empowered. By thriving in college and carrying a purpose-driven mindset forward, I hope to make a lasting impact-one smile at a time.

I still remember the first time I noticed how powerful a smile truly is. I was in a group setting and one person struck my attention. This person would join in the conversations, but anytime he would laugh or smile his hand was always right in front of his mouth to cover it. Soon after, I was not the only one who noticed; someone asked him why. He immediately grew timid, shrunk into his seat, and said something about how it was just a thing he picked up from his father. Everyone nodded and moved on, but I knew the real reason. A smile is not just a physical feature; a smile is confidence, freedom, and self expression. That moment shaped my goals and continues to fuel my drive through college and my destination towards a career in orthodontics.
