JobTest Career Coach Scholarship for Law Students
The assertion that “the most challenging decisions necessitate the strongest wills,” articulated by Thanos, resonates deeply as I embark on my pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and ultimately my Juris Doctorate in Law. This quotation serves as a powerful motivator, reminding me that obstacles are an inevitable part of the journey; however, my determination and perseverance will enable me to overcome them. Securing this scholarship during my first semester will significantly alleviate the anxiety of my current school tuition balance and the uncertainty of whether I can register for the upcoming semester.    Throughout my upbringing, I actively participated in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Pathfinder Club affiliated with my local church. This organization offers a unique experience reminiscent of the Boy Scouts, integrating spiritual development through regular Bible study, prayer, and community outreach, along with extended volunteering activities, where I offered my services at my local church, several homeless shelters, and nursing homes. My involvement in Pathfinders has equipped me with essential life skills, enhanced my personal growth, built self-confidence, and fostered a sense of accomplishment. More importantly, the Club has instilled in me the discipline, resilience, and teamwork that are crucial for success. For instance, extended volunteering activities have honed my empathy and understanding of social issues, which are essential for a career in law.      Within the Club, I engaged in numerous hands-on activities that ignited my interest in various subjects. However, my most cherished activity was the Pathfinder Bible Experience (PBE). Participating in the PBE Bowl was a pivotal moment in developing my leadership and teamwork skills. As the captain of the team, I felt the weight of expectations from both my parents and my community. Although we secured second place, I was proud of our achievement. This experience taught me the importance of striving for excellence, collaborating as part of a team, and placing trust in my teammates’ capabilities—skills that are essential in the legal field, where teamwork and mutual trust are paramount.      My passion for soccer has played a significant role in my life since childhood. Although I derived immense enjoyment from the sport, I often experienced disappointment when outcomes did not meet my expectations. My father instilled in me the importance of striving for success, which magnified the impact of each setback. I recall a match last year against a formidable opponent, during which I missed two goals that could have changed the game’s outcome. I was devastated; however, on our way home, my parents chose to focus on my positive contributions rather than concentrate on my errors. At the next father-son training session, my father reenacted the plays and taught me alternative scoring methods. This experience afforded me an opportunity to learn and grow. These lessons are directly applicable to the legal profession, where the ability to recover from setbacks and maintain a commitment to succeed is crucial.     I have consistently valued the time spent with my family, particularly in watching shows such as “Chicago PD” and “Law & Order.” These programs have enriched my understanding of the legal system. My passion for law was further solidified approximately one year ago after watching two impactful films with my father: “Just Mercy” and the Netflix documentary concerning the 1989 Central Park Jogger Case. Both films illuminated the injustices that permeate the court system, particularly those affecting marginalized individuals. They served as a poignant reminder of the systemic biases within the legal framework, reinforcing my conviction that perseverance is essential in the face of adversity.

As a young boy, I cherished the moments watching law enforcement television series with my family, such as “Chicago PD” and “Law & Order,” among others. These shows not only entertained me but also got me closer to my parents and siblings and heightened my awareness of the court system. In retrospect, it appeared as if I was being groomed to pursue a career in law, and the seeds had been planted in my mind. About a year ago, my conviction to pursue a law degree was forever ingrained in my mind after watching two movies with my father, “Just Mercy” and the Netflix documentary “1989 Central Park Jogger Case.” The lessons I learned from these two movies helped me recognize that the court system can be biased, often favoring the rich and powerful while disenfranchising those less fortunate in our society. The injustice faced by minorities, and precisely, Black and Brown men, is appalling. Those men were wrongfully convicted and served hard prison time for crimes they did not commit. I firmly believe that if they had been able to afford the best attorneys, they would have had a much better chance of having the charges dismissed at the onset. Indeed, there are thousands more cases similar to the ones noted above, and some of those men are eagerly waiting for an attorney who will seek justice for them. I will stand ready to help them get the justice they deserve.
