Growing up I always heard stories on the news about people getting put away for horrible crimes, and I always thought that that was a great thing. What I didn't realize is that beyond those headliner crimes, there are a lot of people who get put away for crimes they didn't do because of inadequate lawyers or lawyers who are just too overworked. I took a law class last year, and in it we learned about the Innocence Project. The Innocence Project basically used modern sciences to reopen and prove people innocent that were found guilty in the past. I feel like their mission is a noble one, and I want to do my best to help them out on it. The way I want to help is a little different though. I want to be able to open a law firm that provides cheap but effective and personal legal advice to anyone who needs it. I figured that the best way to help a project like that would be to help to remove the necessity of it. Although I don't think I can ever fully remove the need for the project, I think I can definitely help. As of now, court appointed lawyers are assigned so many cases that the first time they meet their client may be in the court room. This just isn't right. On top of that, people are often coerced into accepting plea bargains because they can't afford a lawyer and they don't want to go through the lengthy process. My goal is to eliminate all of these problems with my firm. I already got accepted into Texas A&M school of business, and I plan to graduate with a bachelors in business administration. I want to use that to go to law school somewhere in Texas so I can minimize me debt. The reason I want the least debt possible is so I can go all in on the firm, since it won't be cheap to get started. The goal of a lawyer should be justice above all else. But in the current system it isn't always justice that prevails. Bad plea bargains, overworked lawyers, and just an overall corrupt system inhibit the dispensing of justice. I hope to fix this with my cheap law firm. I know that it is a lofty goal and that it will take a lot of devotion to stick to, but I truly believe it is something that needs to get done but probably won't unless I do it since it won't be a lucrative deal. Overall, I think that I am a good candidate for this scholarship since what I am trying to do a necessity in our society, but is a necessity that is often overlooked. Thank you for considering me.
