Bio

Hello, my name is Nathan Viera, and I am a senior at Lockport High School, and I am passionate about the Automotive Field. I appreciate your time and consideration for my application! In high school, I pursued my path at Boces in which I am taking the course in the automotive tech field, but I want to learn more complex things. I did an internship through West Herr Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in my area that allowed me to further my knowledge on the mechanics side of this field. I am a National Honor Society student, taking advanced placement classes. I have volunteered to help clean up a local Lakefront Park planting flowers for memorials in Olcott NY. I play indoor and outdoor Track & Field and I am a true leader that loves to make this world a better place. My goal is to not only be able to repair and tune my own vehicles, but to be able to race legitimately. If I do not make it in the Auto Racing world, I would pursue my career in the automotive field and someday open my own business. I hope to make a difference in the automotive field by learning as much as I can about cars and trying to make them better and more advanced than they are today. My single mom’s and I applied FAFSA but have not heard anything yet from them. I was recently accepted to Ohio Technical College and with scholarships, I hope to afford college, pursue my career and help others. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider me in your scholarship!

Ever since I was young the fascination with cars has always struck an interest to me. From watching Disney Cars as a young boy to watching the Fast and the Furious series as I got older. The joy of cars has always been a part of me. Since I was around 13 years old, I gained an interested in the mechanical side of vehicles. At first it was all about what cars looked the best and what new model was coming out that interested me the most. It wasn’t until I grew older where I started to appreciate the performance and specs that vehicles offered. I became interested on how each component works as well as how to improve upon them and get the maximum potential out of each car. My interest continued to grow in my recent years since I have been going to school for auto tech. However, most of the time what we work on is basic things like brakes and suspension which isn’t horrible. But, I’d rather learn more complex things such as engines and how to improve them. I did an internship through West Herr Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in my area that allowed me to further my knowledge on the mechanics side of this field. I am also interested in taking a custom paint job course to further my knowledge and experience in all aspects of the automotive field. Everything that I learned over the years is what got me into the automotive field along with the high performance side of this field as well as racing. My goal is to not only be able to repair and tune my own vehicles, but to be able to race legitimately. If I do not make it in the Auto Racing world I would pursue my career in the automotive field and someday open my own business. Everything in this field from repairing the cars to racing them along with customizing them is what inspires me to pursue a career in racing and the automotive field. I hope to make a difference in the automotive field by learning as much as I can about cars and trying to make them better and more advanced than they are today. I feel I am a deserving candidate for this scholarship because I am a hard worker, always doing my best at whatever comes my way. I am dedicated to the work I do and always giving my all to make sure I achieve the most that I can in life. Weather I win or lose I know I did my best to get to where I am today in life. I will use this scholarship to help with my financials needs and to reach my goals by going to Ohio Technical College and making my dreams come true.

The trade that I am planning to study is the High Performance and racing course at Ohio Technical College. I have chosen this skilled trade because my passion for cars and the joy of working on them daily is something that I see myself pursuing a career in, in the near future. I plan to have a career in the chosen trade as I have taken a course in high school that made me enjoy and very passionate about the automotive field. I have only seen my interest grow the more and more I learned throughout the past 2 years that I was in BOCES. Over the past year watching everything my mom has done to make sure I was able to get into the college of my choice is nothing but amazing to me. I come from a single parent home and at times watched her struggle just to make sure me and my brother had everything we needed. This scholarship will be so helpful to be to reduce my debt once I graduate. I feel I am a deserving candidate for this scholarship because I am a hard worker, always doing my best at whatever comes my way. I am dedicated to the work I do and always giving my all to make sure I achieve the most that I can in life. Weather I win or lose I know I did my best to get to where I am today in life. Right now I am the youngest student in my class but I have achieved the highest grade in my class.

Throughout the years my mom has been my biggest supporter. She has always been there for me through everything I have accomplished, from all the sporting events, to the late nights helping me with my homework, to studying for that final exam or just to be there for me when I needed someone to just listen to me. My mom has taught me that hard work and dedication will make my goals and dreams come true. I have worked hard throughout my school years in which I was on the Honor Roll and in the National Honor Society. I was on the indoor/Outdoor trach and field team in which I participated in the Weight throw, shot put and discus events and was a true leader for my teammates. My Mom has not only been there for me but she is the hardest working person that I know. Being in a single parent household my mother never missed an event for both me and my brother while working a fulltime job and making sure my brother and I had everything we needed and were taken care of. Over the past year watching everything my mom has done to make sure I was able to get into the college of my choice, in which I am going to Ohio Technical College this year for High performance and racing is nothing but amazing to me. She has gone above and beyond to make my dreams come true. She helped me out so much by helping me get all my FASFA paperwork and student loan information all completed in a timely manner. She even helped me get a parent Plus loan to make this all possible for me. I have seen her struggle over the past year to make this all happen and I could not be more grateful for everything she has done for me to make this all possible. My mom is my biggest supporter and showing me that she is always there for me through everything no matter how tough things get. I feel I am a deserving candidate for this scholarship because I am a hard worker, always doing my best at whatever comes my way. I am dedicated to the work I do and always giving my all to make sure I achieve the most that I can in life. Weather I win or lose I know I did my best to get to where I am today in life.

Throughout my high schools years the one teacher that I really looked up to was Dr. Matthew Vermette, he deeply influenced me throughout my 4 years in high school and he changed the way I changed my approach in many things in life. He had so much compassion for me and other students that I look up to him and have the desire to do the same for other going forward in life. I had Dr. Vermette my sophomore year for AP history and throughout the year we grew really close and that year I enjoyed taking his class every day. He taught me a lot that year and guided me to be the person I am today. I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to take his class and to have such a great role model in my life. Dr. Vermette is a role model to myself and many students in my school, he is always there for me whenever I needed help or to just have someone to talk to when times are tough. He guided me through many obstacles in life for example of when my Uncle passed away and then a few weeks later I lost my grandfather, Dr. Vermette was there for me and was a great ear to just listen to me especially through this tough time. Dr. Vermette was also my track coach for Discus, shotput and weight throw for 3 years and it was a pleasure to have him as my coach, he was such an inspiration to me and other kids on the team. The one thing that really inspired me about him is that no matter what school we were competing against he was always helping out everyone one to teach them the correct way to play the sport no matter what school you attended. He wasn’t just about working with our schools athletes to make them the best possible player they could be but he did the same for many other students from the other schools we competed against. Dr. Vermette is one teacher that I am going to miss now that I am graduating and moving on to achieve my life goals in college but I will never forget everything he taught me in life and what an inspiration he was to myself and others. He was a great mentor to me and many other students in my school and I always had many positive interactions with him throughout my high school years. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to have been in his class and worked with him throughout my high school years. He is one teacher I will always remember and had the pleasure to have worked with in my life.

The ways in which I have lived a life of service to my family, community, and/or teammates is by helping them out whenever possible and by trying to do whatever I can to show true leadership and give my full commitment to what ever I do. Over the past year after my Grandpa passed away I try to help my Grandma out by helping mow her lawn and clean up whatever is needed to be done around her yard. I also try to do the little things by carrying something from the car because it may be too heavy for her to lift. She knows that whenever she needs help I am just a phone call away and I will always be there for her. I also help my mom out by doing the little things around the house to make her day a little easier as she is a single parent trying to do the best that she can to support me and my little brother. After a long day at work just the little things of picking up after myself and helping my brother out can go along way. I also play on the Track and field team for both indoor and outdoor track through school over the past few years in which I was a thrower in discus, shot put and weighted throw. I always try to be there for my teammates to help them with whatever is needed. Some of the things may just be the small things by giving a friend a listen ear whenever needed. Sometimes you need that one person to listen to you when you are having a bad day and I try to be that person for them. I also try to help them if the are struggling with a workout or by just showing different ways to improve their game. I try to be a true leader for them and help them along the way. In my community I have volunteered on a few things through school by cleaning up and planting flowers at one of our local beaches to make the community a better place. I will also try to help out a neighbor if needed whenever I can or by picking up the branches or a piece of garbage that may have fallen to make my neighborhood a better place for everyone. I have a lot of passion for the things I do and I want to thank you for giving us this opportunity.

My favorite aspect of the game is the creativity it brings to everyone and the ability to share that with my friends. I feel this resonates with me deeply because I really enjoy the building and creativity of creating my own village with my brother and friends and how it brings so much joy to us while we are playing minecraft. The endless opportunities the game gives you to share your creativity is endless. My favorite aspect of the game is creating villages and being ale to not only be able to create a landscape with plants and flowers, you are also able to add animals to your village. I also enjoy adding a pool to my home that I create in my village. You also has to protect your village so it doesn't get invaded which is also fun and challenging at the same time. The game also gives the users the opportunity to use your creativity with you friends and family and they can help in building together whenever you are imaging that day from small items to sky scrappers and hotels. This is why me, my friends and family really enjoy playing mindcraft together and have a lot of fun while we are playing

My favorite Actor in Spiderman was Toby McGuire. In the movie Toby played Peter Parker who had a troubled personal life but was able to get through every obstacle that came his way. When he transformed into Spiderman, he helped out so many people but when he transformed back to himself, he was just an average person with a lot of the same struggles in life as many people today. Toby was my favorite just because of the person he was as he faced many challenges as we do as kids like struggling in school, falling in love and just facing all the obstacles in life that we as younger kids do today. I like the person he was to himself and finding it in himself to help out so many people. Also, even though he was being portrayed as a criminal and being attacked by the newspaper that didn’t stop him from protecting the people he loved and the city he lived in. And in the end, it all worked out he got the love of his life Mary Jane and took down the mad scientist Doctor Octopus to protect the city he lives in. These are the reason that Toby McGuire was my favorite actor in Spiderman.
