Bio

Hi, my name is Nathan. I am a passionate scholar wanting to strive for excellence and meet my full potential. I have a passion for Automotive Technology. I love Auto Technology Because of how much physical work and diagnosis I have to do to fix a car. Mechanic work can be a very challenging subject, which I love because it makes me feel more satisfied when I'm able to finish a project. My current goals are to grow in my Christian faith and to gain more mechanic experience, so I could work at a dealership professionally.

I grew up in a single parent household with my three other sisters. My mother was a very hard working person and let us explore many subjects that we loved. Around 8 years old my mother got sick with Lupus, went into a coma for a year, and had to stay in the hospital for 3 years after it. I had to move to a different county into my dad’s house who I hadn’t known anything about at the time. My sisters and I were now separated, so I had to deal with some social issues growing up, which as a result I barely made any friends. I didn’t have much guidance growing up, which made me to pick up very destructive behaviors like skipping school, theft, and just generally not knowing or caring where I was going in life. When covid hit it that time of loneliness and silence in the world made me realize just how meaningless that mightset was and really flipped a switch in my head that made me want to pursue something that would really made me satisfied. I tried out subjects like Enginneering, Soccer, Basketball, Track, but they just weren’t for me. It was until I got into my automotive class that I was able to find my passion for working on cars. Being in this class for the last year and a half has helped me learn how much I love hands-on work. I was able to help modify a 1965 Fox body Mustang in my first year of the course; the blend of hands-on work and knowledge behind every part of a car made the experience become a foundation for my passion. My goal for the future is to run my own mechanic shop that modifies cars to accompany people with disabilities and also provide education in the mechanic trade to make it accessible to people in my community. Through facing these challenges I’ve been able to find direction and disciple in a life filled with disorder and misconduct. Although my life hasn’t been the longest I’ve learned just how much an impact a passion and direction can have on how one thinks. Jack story inspires me because it reminds me of the struggles I’ve went through and how I’ve started to overcome them through my passion. Even through his background is filled with terror and distraught it sill reminds me that even if you have a tragic background, don’t let anything hold you back from reaching your goal. You can’t really get rid of the past, but you can use it as a way to push towards the future by overcoming the challenges spawning from it. My mom is now disabled and can’t walk very far, so I believe that through automotive I could use my skills as a technician to help others with similar disabilities by modifying the cars and adding ramps or lifts to them. Many disabled people aren’t able to get reliable transportation that can help them, so I hope that through my ambition I could make that a possibility for them.

I will be an Automotive technician in addition to skills in EV and hybrid repair. I want to build my automotive shop that can fix Hybrid/EV vehicles and teach people how to become technicians through apprenticeships/internships. This is because my community doesn’t have many accessible places to fix and learn about certain cars through apprenticeships that could help high schoolers or adults without having to commute long distances. I am planning to do this by going to community college because the programs that are offered at institutions can lead me into a trade or dealership to further my goal. I’m going to community college because the programs that are offered can offer more experience and time into being a technician than what I had in high school. I took an automotive class in my junior and now in my senior year through it, I’ve been able to understand my love for being a technician, and it has given me partial experience as a technician. Through Community college, I would have more experience in diagnostics, repair, and overall knowledge of a car which would help me more in experience than a typical entry-level job such as Jiffy Lube or Valvoline could. My reason for not straight going to Technical School is because of the price and the short span I would be attending. The reason I still would go there down the line is because of the connection opportunities and much better programs when it comes to automotive that offer a wide range of skills for one to explore. This goes into why I need the Scholarship because it would jumpstart my way into the automotive industry and help me gain the knowledge I need to be a great technician. I have probably said this many times but being a part of a class that helped build a 1965 fox-body Mustang became the starting point of my passion for cars. Similar to William Stuart I love hands-on learning through my love of cars and by this, I want to be similar to Stuart, with him even at the age of 60 not allowing that barrier to stop him from the love he has for knowledge. Through going to college and gaining the experience I need to be a great technician to use my skills to not only help myself through project cars but also my community by serving them in ways that aren’t currently available. I believe that by earning this scholarship I could realize my goal of starting a mechanic shop and know that not only Bold but also Stuart are helping me to achieve my goals.

I am currently a high school senior attending Howard High School with a passion for automotive mechanics. It began after I had the privilege of taking an automotive technology class in my junior year. Since starting the class I've been able to understand my love for hands-on jobs and interest in the parts making up a car. Being in this class for the last year and a half has helped me learn how much I love hands-on work. I’ve learned things from changing tires, doing a brake job, and even completing certification tests. I was able to help modify a 1965 Fox body Mustang in my first year of the course; the blend of hands-on work and knowledge behind every part of a car made the experience become a foundation for my passion. The U.S. is currently going through a shortage in automotive mechanics and this being my passion is the best way to serve my community in a way to address this gap. Through going to trade school and becoming a certified master mechanic I will make sure to do my best to serve others in my community. With many older mechanics retiring and the car industry changing to more hybrid vehicles; it would be best to prepare myself while also providing for my community to create a future where my community has access to qualified mechanics. I’ve recently had a long-term goal to lead a mechanic shop because of how interesting it would be to be around different kinds of cars, and the people driving them while doing what I love. It’s a big ambition for the future, but it’s worth it considering how much I’ve started to shape my life around the automotive industry. The amount of hours I put into understanding car components and being able to use that knowledge in class to repair or even modify cars is an experience I would love to pursue professionally. The ultimate objective is to use my abilities to better myself while being able to help my family members and the community around me. By doing this, I want to encourage others to do a similar course and support the automotive environment and how much one could learn and grow from working on cars. I will consciously try to create a future where my community has access to qualified mechanics, promoting empowerment and knowledge-sharing via every action I take.

Through going to trade school and becoming a certified master mechanic I will make sure to do my best to serve others in my community. With many older mechanics retiring and the car industry changing to more hybrid vehicles; it would be best to prepare my community by volunteering to teach others or by opening a mechanic shop to serve them more effectively. I’ve recently even had a long-term goal to lead a mechanic shop because of how interesting it would be to be around different kinds of cars, and the people driving them while doing what I love. The ultimate objective is to use my abilities to better my community in addition to myself. By doing this, I want to encourage others to do a similar course and support the booming automotive sector. I consciously try to create a future where my community has access to qualified mechanics, promoting empowerment and knowledge-sharing via every action I take.
