With all the constant stress in the world, it's important to find time to laugh, forget all the anxiety in life and just enjoy the moment, and laugh. I always try my best to use comedy in my life, either as a performer, to lighten the mood of a bad situation, or to just give someone a good laugh when they need it. One of my favorite moments like this was during Boston Comic-Con. During this specific event, I was dressed as Robin, Batman's sidekick. Me and my friends were walking through the event when I saw a young boy, no older than nine, walking around alone in a Flash costume. He had a nervous look on his face as he was looking through the crowds of people. Assuming he had lost whoever he was with, I decided to go over to the boy to see if I could help. I addressed him as Flash and asked if he needed some help. The boy looked up at me nervously and nodded, saying he was walking with his older brother and stopped to look at a booth selling Lego figures. I assumed with the huge crowds, his brother just hadn't noticed he stopped and kept on going. I told the boy that we would go find someone that could locate his brother. Along the way, I tried to lighten his spirits by cracking some jokes with him. I didn't know much about the Flash, so I decided asking him about other superhero's and what he thought about them. After being closed off for a little bit, the one that really got him to laugh was along the lines of "Don't tell Batman I told you this, but he usually smells really bad, like he never washes that suit!" The boy started laughing and told me I would get in trouble for saying that. We eventually found security who went looking for his family as the boy, a security guard and I sat in the food court to wait. The boy and I kept going back and forth telling silly secrets about different superheroes to make each other laugh. His family showed up and his mom almost crushed me by hugging me so tight, non-stop thanking me. I gave the boy a high five and told him to be careful with strangers. As he walked away, he yelled back "Thank you Robin!" I gave him a wave and a smile, and off he went. My name is Nathan LaPorte, I'm a student at Plymouth State University majoring in Musical Theatre Performance with a minor in Standardized Patient Training. I'm the current President of Plym-Prov and Plymouth Players, the Improv theatre troupe at Plymouth State. As Plym-Prov, we put on eight improv shows a year, one being a full length, fully improved Dungeons and Dragons style show, which is fully student produced, directed, and performed. Last year's Full-length D&D show was the first fully student run show we had done like that in the past fifteen years! Our troupe meets twice a week, once being the auditioned troupe Plym-Prov, and the other being the open to the public improv club Plymouth Players. Outside of the Improve groups, I am a Musical Theatre Major who is involved in every production put on in our seasons. After graduation, my big goal is to eventually make my way to Hollywood, but starting off, I want to work in any theatre production that I can. I have an insanely powerful love and passion for the stage and for performance in general. Thank you for reading!
