Adam Montes Pride Scholarship
Something unique about me is my deep compassion for animals and my determination to turn that compassion into meaningful action. Since I was young, I’ve always felt a strong connection to animals. Whether it was rescuing stray cats in my neighborhood, volunteering at local shelters, or comforting my own pets when they were sick, I’ve always been driven by the belief that every creature deserves care, respect, and a voice. This belief has shaped not only my personality but also my academic and career goals.
My motivation for seeking higher education stems from this lifelong passion. I plan to major in Marine Biology so I can dedicate my career to improving animal welfare and contributing to the understanding of animal health and behavior. Education, to me, is not just about earning a degree—it’s about gaining the knowledge and skills to make a difference. I want to be someone who uses science, empathy, and advocacy to create a more compassionate world for animals and the people who care about them.
What distinguishes me from other applicants is my perseverance and my ability to find purpose in every challenge. I come from a family that has always emphasized hard work and kindness. Growing up, I often helped care for my younger siblings while balancing schoolwork and extracurriculars. These experiences taught me time management, patience, and a sense of responsibility that I now apply to everything I do. Even during difficult times, I’ve never lost sight of my goals or my values.
One of my proudest accomplishments has been organizing a small community project that provided food and temporary shelter for stray cats and dogs in my area. What started as a personal effort turned into a community initiative that brought people together—neighbors who had never spoken before began working side by side. It showed me the power of compassion to inspire unity and change, even in small ways.
Receiving this scholarship would mean more than financial support; it would be a recognition of the hard work, resilience, and heart I’ve poured into my dreams. I see it as an opportunity to continue growing—not just for myself, but for the lives I hope to improve through service, education, and care.

Being part of my school’s band program has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my academic life. From the moment I joined, I realized it was much more than just a class or extracurricular activity—it was a community built on teamwork, dedication, and a shared love of music and performance. My contributions to the program have grown each year, as I’ve developed not only as a violinist but also as a leader, teammate, and supporter of others.
When I first joined the band, I was focused mainly on improving my own musicianship. I spent countless hours practicing my violin, refining my tone, pitch accuracy, and overall technique. I made it a goal to always come to rehearsals prepared, with my parts learned and ready to blend with the ensemble. Over time, I began to understand that the success of our band depended on everyone working together, listening to one another, and supporting each section equally. That realization motivated me to step beyond my individual role and contribute to the larger group dynamic.
I began helping new members learn their music, sharing tips that had helped me improve and offering encouragement when rehearsals got challenging. I found joy in helping others grow, especially those who were new to the band environment. I also volunteered to help tune instruments before performances, set up stands and chairs, and organize sheet music so that rehearsals could run smoothly. I learned that even small tasks can make a big difference in how well the group performs together.
As I gained more confidence, I took on greater responsibilities. I often assisted with sectionals, led warm-ups, and helped the conductor ensure everyone was ready for performances. During concerts, I tried to set an example through my focus and professionalism. I’ve learned that leadership isn’t only about giving instructions—it’s about maintaining a positive attitude, staying disciplined, and showing respect for everyone’s contributions.
Beyond rehearsals and concerts, I’ve also contributed to the band’s community spirit. I volunteered for school assemblies, community performances, and fundraisers, helping represent our program with pride. I also encouraged my peers to attend performances and show their support for the arts.
Being a violinist in the band has taught me the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and passion. It has shown me that music connects people in ways that words sometimes can’t. My goal has always been to help make our band stronger—not just musically, but as a supportive, inclusive community where every musician feels valued and inspired to give their best.

My passion for animals began at an early age and has continued to grow throughout my life. When I was a child, my family always had pets—dogs, cats, fish, and even a few rescued animals that needed temporary homes. I was fascinated by the way animals communicate, form bonds, and rely on humans for care and protection. I remember spending hours reading about different species, learning about how they lived and what they needed to survive. What started as simple curiosity turned into a lifelong sense of compassion and responsibility toward animals. I began to see them not just as companions, but as living beings who deserve respect, empathy, and understanding. Over the years, my connection to animals deepened through hands-on experiences. I started volunteering at local animal shelters, where I helped feed, clean, and socialize rescued pets. It wasn’t always easy—some animals were scared or had experienced neglect—but seeing their transformation once they felt safe and loved was incredibly rewarding. I also began helping neighbors care for their pets and occasionally fostering animals until they found permanent homes. These experiences taught me patience, empathy, and the power of small acts of kindness. They also showed me how deeply animals enrich our communities by offering companionship and unconditional love. I plan to make a positive impact in the animal world by dedicating my career and volunteer efforts to improving their welfare. My goal is to continue working with shelters and rescue organizations to provide care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation to animals in need. I also want to promote education about responsible pet ownership—teaching people about the importance of spaying and neutering, proper nutrition, and the emotional needs of animals. In the long term, I hope to advocate for stronger animal protection laws and support conservation efforts that preserve wildlife habitats. Whether I’m helping a single injured pet or contributing to a larger cause, I want my work to reflect compassion and purpose. My academic studies will help me build a foundation for a career that combines research, advocacy, and hands-on care. Ultimately, my passion for animals stems from empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for life. Animals depend on us to be their protectors and voices, and I want to dedicate my future to being that voice. By turning my compassion into action, I hope to create lasting, positive change for animals and inspire others to do the same. end
