Sometimes online gaming can distract us from the real world. But this isn't just about gaming. Sometimes people like me sit at home browsing through the internet in search of answers to some of their questions. This may be hours and because we are so engaged in having a response we don't realize how fast time passes. Even then when I am sitting in bed and I'm scrolling through TikTok, suddenly it is past 12 am and I didn't even notice. That is just one effect of the internet.
Playing online games can have a series of effects on us. Whether we play violent video games like Mortal Kombat, or simply play a game on Roblox the effects are rather the same. We become so invested in making sure we pass level number 24 or reaching our daily goals. Then we decided to no longer go out to the park because we only have infinite lives for 24 hours and we need to get a max of 500 points to upgrade. We slowly distance ourselves from society because these games have made us feel comfortable in our own room away from all noise and people. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be alone in your room one in a while but, when it becomes a habit simply because Mario kart series 2 came out a week ago and you want to get to the max level there is..that's when things seem wrong.
We can also talk about the fact that if kids play too many violent video games then they start to become more aggressive because all they have seen is people fighting in these games. Playing the game isn't the problem though, the problem is that they spend too much time playing these games instead of going out and playing real games with real people.
One last point I want to touch on is that video games now can allow you to play with others through calls from the comfort of your home. When things like this become available, is there really a reason why people should go outside and meet up? Video games are a good idea when bored but not when your social life depends on it.
