Barbie Dream House Scholarship
My Barbie Dream House would be located in Kyoto, Japan, somewhere near the areas with cherry blossoms blooming during the spring. The main structure of my Dream House would look like a large Colonial house with three floors and a total of seven rooms. The main colors of the Dream House would be a lavender color with white and pastel pink accents. In the middle of the house, there would be an elevator that will take you to each floor instead of stairs. The first floor would contain the kitchen, the living room with a large television, a garage for my car, and a game room that includes basketball, air hockey, and a skee-ball game right next door to the kitchen. The second floor of the Dream House would contain two bedrooms and a bathroom. The third floor would contain another bedroom and a game room. In the back of the house on the first floor, there would be a porch with a pool and a garden. Each bedroom in the house would have a walk-in closet. Under the Dream House, there would be a party room with tables, chairs, a dance floor, and a pool table. This secret room is usually reserved for birthday parties or just hanging out with friends.
ESOF Academic Scholarship
My interest in how the human body works and finding out what is the cause of some diseases sparked my interest in my choice to major in Health Sciences. I chose that to be my major because I find a fascination in studying the anatomy of the body and I want to help people, specifically children. There are all types of children-related diseases and illnesses, some of which have not been named as of now. I would like to solve the mysteries behind them and find a cure. This is especially the case now during the COVID-19 pandemic. I see a need to help try and figure out a way to rid the world of future ongoing viruses.
My future career plans are to graduate from Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree and go to medical school to further my studies. My future goal in life is to become a pediatrician. I decided that I would be a pediatrician because I unquestionably enjoy children and want to be a part of their lives by helping to take care of them. My ambition to study to be a pediatrician originated when my pediatrician chose my family when I was born. I was premature and my parents hadn’t started interviewing doctors. While I was in the hospital she came to my mother’s room and asked if she could be my doctor. My parents asked my mother’s OB-GYN about her credentials and care for her patients. Dr. Sivam got a glowing report. My brother and I were both born with umbilical hernia and jaundice. My brother had difficulty swallowing when he was born. Our doctor got my parents through this crisis. I can only imagine what my parents were feeling especially when we had to stay in the hospital longer than usual.
During high school, I was part of a dual credit program at my school, 21st Century Charter School of Gary. I graduated top ten percent of my class (#8) with a 3.86 GPA. I received thirty-six college credit hours. I received a certificate in Dementia Care and Certified Nursing Assistant from Ivy Tech Community College in Gary, Indiana. I was on the Dean’s List for the Spring of 2021 as well as 2022. With the college courses that I’d taken already, I already knew I had gotten a head start with my education and future endeavors.
One of the courses I took while I was in the dual credit program was part of a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program. This college course would provide instruction for basic nursing skills needed for taking care of patients. In order to get the certification for my CNA course, I attended clinicals. Our clinicals took place at a nursing home called Wittenberg Village. If we wanted to complete clinicals, we had to attend two days a week for a month and a half. Before we attended clinicals, we had to learn different procedures so that we wouldn’t cause any accidents. Some of these procedures include how to handwash properly, initial and final steps, how to measure a resident’s height and weight, how to assist the residents in eating, assisting the resident to their chair or wheelchair, how to properly apply our PPE gear (gown, mask, and gloves), helping a resident to walk, using a gait belt to safely transfer a resident from a bed to a wheelchair, passing out fresh ice water to residents, positioning a resident on their bed, changing a resident’s gown, denture care, using a bedpan/fracture pan, and helping a resident if they fall and/or faint. This experience helped me get my feet wet in taking care of people.
In addition, I also worked as a tutor for the past two summers. As a tutor, I worked with kids who needed help with their Math, English, and Science classes. I thoroughly enjoyed helping them with their struggles in their particular subjects. I also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for Math and/or Algebra near the end of my senior year where I worked throughout the school week. Like with tutoring, I enjoyed helping them with their struggles and made things easier for them. I think I felt the most accomplished when I was helping the class solve problems with elimination and/or substitution. When the class I was helping out with had problems with substitution and/or elimination, I taught them an easier way to solve the problems without getting elimination and substitution confused. Funny thing is, I used to have problems with these two particular subjects in the past.
In the near future, me and some of my friends possibly want to try and open our own health and wellness clinic for the future youth once we all graduate from college. We want to start with kids when they are first born and treat them. Of course, I will be the pediatrician, taking care of the kids’ health and perform some checkups if needed. Then, we want to open a preschool daycare where we can look after them and teach them fundamentals before they go into kindergarten. We want to give back to our high school, which helped us obtain our college credits, associate’s, and even bachelor’s degrees while we were in high school. In the process, we also want to give back to the community where we all grew up in together.
In conclusion, as you have read in my essay, I have a love for helping people within my community. I am eager to getting started with my college journey, and eventually, medical school. I hope that achieving all of this will help me to get to my life-long dream of being a pediatrician. I know that I don’t have the SAT score that is required for this scholarship, but as you can see, I am a hard worker and I catch on quickly. As I maintain my GPA in high school, I also have a 3.4 GPA from Ivy Tech Community College.
