Ever since I was born, I was surrounded by farming. I was brought out on the farm as often as humanly possible and whenever I was at grandma and grandpa's house, I was always outside. If I happened to eat some dirt or scrape my knee in the barn, I sucked it up and kept working or playing outside because that's how I was raised. The way I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my future endeavors is by motivating and educating others. As a student that is majoring in agronomy, my end goal is to be in soil science and help educate farmers and future farmers about soil health and fertility. A lot of farmers don't understand the importance of soil health and soil fertility. Most farmers plant their crops, spray some fertilizers or pesticides, and hope for the best. What they don't know is that they could be really damaging their soil and ruining chances for future crops to grow well. So, I want to end up educating farmers and helping them increase their yields for their farms. Now, the way agriculture and farming has impacted my life thus far is by making me realize how much work is put into a lot of things that I am blessed with. Watching my father, uncles, and grandparents work so hard on the farm everyday to provide for different companies and to provide for their families is admirable. I want to be like that someday. Provide for people and show them that vegetables don't just come in a can. Vegetables come from a field that a farmer and his or her family maintained. Another way agriculture and farming has impacted my life is by teaching me many life lessons. The two biggest life lessons I have been taught is to praise the Lord and to thank Him for everything and the other lesson is to be thankful for my family. The Lord has blessed me with this life, the only life I will ever get. I can't take anything for granted because, like my old basketball coach and current preacher says, "tomorrow isn't promised." God blessed me with a house, a loving family, a support system of wonderful friends, a farm to grow up on, a dog to play with, and many other things. I shall never take that for granted. Now, my other life lesson is a self explainable one; always be thankful for my family. My family has done so much for me. From the late night crying over the stress of school and bullies, to sitting in the stands for many basketball games, taking me to the ER because of some sprained ankles, and keeping on my butt about my grades. I'm thankful for parents that care so much about me to make sure I'm always healthy and happy; mentally and physically. I wouldn't be in college if it wasn't for them.
