I am employed as a paraprofessional and work with special education students. I make sure they are staying up to date with all of their assignment and understanding the material. I also tutor any students that need it and do not get paid for this. I know high school is tough and it is my way of giving back to the students, as they have taught me so much as well. I am dean list student with a GPA of 3.542. I have worked so hard to get to where I am. I am a older student that came back many years after high school, it took years for me to decide the right career path. I am a student with disabilities and want to teach older students with disabilities. My goal is to teach these students that their disability is not shameful and does not define them. I am a huge mental health advocate and work hard to build the self esteem of other people by giving them the tools to help navigate and self advocate through tough times in life.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

I have a passion for education. I was a student in the 90's through early 2000's. As a student with disabilities I was often cast aside. I found that it was easier to act out then to ask for help because I was shamed or looked at as stupid. I was not given the support I deserved as a student and it was not until my college years that I realized that I am just as capable as any other person. I am a advocate for students with disabilities and emotional/behavior disorders because I know what it is like to be one of those students. I believe that regardless of you race, ethnicity, disability etc. you deserve to be challenged and help in a healthy way. I want students to get the education and attention that I never recieved in school. I am teaching high school special education. I am a student will disability and want to teach students with disabilities. My goal is to teach these students that their disability is not shameful and does not define them or need to be used as a crutch. I want them to be confident in who they are and know that they can achieve great things. I believe most students with disabilities are capable of doing anything that students without disabilities can do. I believe that these students should be challenged in a way that best suits them. I am a inquiry based teacher meaning all of my lessons are hands on. This allows students of all levels to navigate their own way through school without being told what is the "right" or "wrong" way of learning. I am a big mental health advocated and know how stressful school can be. I am a firm believer in social emotions learning and mental check ins for my students. I try my best to give these students the tools they need to handle stressful situations. I tutor any students that need it and do not get paid for this. I know high school is tough and it is my way of giving back to the students, as they have taught me so much as well. I want the future generations to be able to work hard and if they fail its ok. So many people fail and its what you do with that failure that really counts. It is easy to walk away frustrated and be done with a situation, but nothing gets solved that way. I want my students to take a minute recoop and try again, if the same way isn't working then try a different way. Once they get it, it is instant gratification that no one can give them but themselves.
