Do you ever hear a song and think, I couldn't have described what I am thinking or feeling better than this song? The lyrics, the melody, the voice, everything just fits right. For me, that song is "For Island Fire and Family" by Dermot Kennedy. This song has the most important message to me. It talks about the connection that we have between nature and the connections we have in relationships with those who we love. There is amazing imagery that describes the different connections we have as well as what we feel like we are missing. My favorite line in the song is "And even though this life, this love is brief, I've got some people who carry me." This is a line I resonate with deeply and also a line that reminds me that in this life there is hope and joy in the people we chose to surround ourselves with and with those we love. It is a raw song with great meaning as well as an amazing melody sung by someone extremely talented.

"You matter but you are not the point" I first heard this quote in a youth group that I attend and since then have heard it in various different ways. It is exactly as it says, you matter. My life matters, what I do matters, my joy and sadness matter. However, there is a "but" in there. But you are not the point. I am not the center of the universe. Everyone and everything doesn't revolve around me. This calls me to be more focused on people who are around me, less focused on achieving all of what I want to, and forgetting to care about the people who are around me. There is something bigger that I am a part of; that I get to be a part of and there. I matter but I am not the point.
