I am a first-year Honors student majoring in Environmental Earth Science with a co-major in Sustainability, and a minor in Geology, and I am pursuing a Geographic Information Systems certificate at Miami University. I have a passion for different environmental issues, including how we seek a more sustainable future and maintain environmental health (especially within water systems), and consequently, public health. In high school, I finished my diploma with a 4.41 GPA alongside multiple leadership experiences, including soccer captain, art director, Key Club treasurer, and member of NHS. In college, I have continued to pursue leadership by joining the Honors Student Advisory Board as the secretary for the Faculty and Students team. I am also a member of the Miami URGE (Unlearning Racism in the Geosciences) Pod, Miami University Geological Society as Secretary, Miami Environmental Professionals Association as Event Director, American Institute for Professional Geologists, and the Outdoor Adventure Club. These activities have allowed me to continue my active engagement in college and prepared me to be flexible with what life throws at me and to manage my time well. I am committed to serving my community and helping others to establish a better future for our entire world, which is a sentiment I aspire to include in my future career. I'm a great candidate for scholarships due to my commitment to academics, my career goals involving the betterment of our world, and my compassion for others.

Eco-anxiety is a common experience among younger generations in the face of today's environmental problems. With the size of such an overwhelming issue like climate change, it can be easy to feel despair and helpless as one person against a global problem. However, it is important to remain hopeful despite the anxiety because we have solutions at our disposal. There are many things the individual can do to help ease their carbon footprint, including recycling, eating a more plant-based diet, buying clothes and other items secondhand, choosing to walk or use public transportation instead of driving, and much more. Still, many people think their singular efforts are like using a tiny drop of water to extinguish the extensive fires of global warming. Because of this, many people give up on pursuing a personal, sustainable future-- if the large corporations aren't doing anything, why should I?
This is where things go wrong when pursuing an eco-friendly world. While one person's actions may seem insignificant, they are part of a greater whole. Unity and connection are often overlooked aspects of sustainability; to make meaningful change, we have to be willing to work together and engage in global communication to achieve our sustainable goals despite our differences. Working together can look like many things: mandated recycling efforts, sustainable policy implementation, investing in clean energy, international climate agreements, or even just global conversation about an eco-friendly future. The individual's actions come together to create a global force for the environment that can make an impact, especially against major corporations that release the most carbon emissions.
If no one cares enough to make the small, sustainable choices, then the most impactful movements can never come to fruition. Sustainability begins with daring to hope for a better future. Sustainability begins with you.
