I am a proud first-generation Mexican American and the oldest of three siblings, raised by hardworking immigrant parents who have shown me the true meaning of sacrifice and perseverance. Growing up bilingual, I learned to navigate two cultures while staying grounded in my values. My parents came to the United States in search of a better life and continue to support not only our family but also my grandparents, both physically and financially. Their dedication inspires me to work hard and pursue my goals.
Throughout high school, I challenged myself by taking Honors and AP courses while staying active in sports, including softball, soccer, and volleyball. These experiences strengthened my discipline, teamwork, and determination. I am honored to be the first on my father’s side to attend a four-year college, a milestone that reflects both my efforts and my family’s sacrifices.
I aspire to become an occupational therapist to serve low-income and immigrant communities, offering guidance and support to families like mine. My long-term goal is to earn my PhD and open my own practice. Scholarships are essential to help me achieve these goals without adding financial strain to my family, allowing me to continue my education and give back to my community.

Pursuing higher education without financial support from my family or federal aid has been shaped by my family’s responsibilities and the sacrifices they continue to make. My parents immigrated from Mexico in search of better opportunities and have worked tirelessly to provide a stable life for my siblings and me. As the oldest of three, I have grown up understanding the weight of responsibility they carry. In addition to supporting our immediate family, my parents also provide physical and financial support to my grandparents. Because of this, I know that contributing to my college expenses would place an added burden on them—one I am determined to avoid.
Although my parents have always encouraged me to pursue higher education, I have taken it upon myself to find ways to make it possible independently. This reality has required me to be proactive, disciplined, and intentional about my future. Throughout high school, I challenged myself academically by enrolling in Honors and AP courses, pushing myself to grow and prepare for college-level work. At the same time, I remained active in sports, including softball, soccer, and volleyball, which taught me valuable lessons in teamwork, time management, and perseverance. Balancing academics and athletics strengthened my ability to stay focused and committed, even when faced with challenges.
My background has deeply shaped my sense of responsibility. Being the oldest sibling, I have always felt the need to set an example for my younger siblings and to honor my parents’ sacrifices. I have learned to be independent by seeking out opportunities, such as scholarships, and taking initiative in planning my educational path. Rather than depending on others, I have developed the confidence to advocate for myself and take control of my future.
These experiences have also influenced my long-term goals. I aspire to become an occupational therapist so I can give back to communities like my own, especially low-income and immigrant families who often face barriers when accessing resources. I want to guide and support individuals in navigating systems that can feel overwhelming. In the future, I plan to earn my PhD and open my own practice, creating a space where people feel understood and supported.
Ultimately, my journey has taught me resilience, determination, and purpose. While pursuing higher education without financial assistance presents challenges, it has also strengthened my drive to succeed. I am committed to continuing my education, not only to achieve my own goals but to uplift my family and community while honoring the sacrifices that made my journey possible.
