Becoming a mother at a young age was the most impactful event in my life. It gave my life a total transformation, shaping the person I am today. Motherhood not only filled my life with great new meaning but taught me how to be resilient, disciplined, sacrificial, and purposeful. It made me grow in ways I could have never imagined. Motherhood is the very reason why I’m pursuing a nursing career.
When I first became a mother, I was shocked by the enormous responsibility that had suddenly come upon me. I was still trying to figure out who I was, and now I was responsible for a child who needed me for everything. However, that experience did not break me because my child became the motivation to rise above each obstacle presented before me and around me. They became my motivation to work harder and give my best. Thanks to them, I discovered a new kind of strength.
One of the hardest things I had to do was to balance being a parent with my studies. My classmates could often just focus on schoolwork, but I had to plan around my baby’s schedule which meant feedings, childcare, and long nights which meant very little sleep sometimes. I found myself studying after everyone went to sleep because that was the only quiet time I had, pulling all-nighters, pushing myself to focus even when I was exhausted. My child became my reason to become more organized, patient, disciplined, and relentless.
Growing up, I did not have much, and as a young mother, every penny counts. I had to decide whether there was enough for my essentials or for what my child needed most. This struggle taught me to be humble and grateful but also to have a deep understanding of what it means to grow up in a limited-resource setting. I became determined to create a future that is more stable for me and my child. This wasn’t only for our well-being but also to build up my empathy for my future patients.
Given the financial burden, of course, I had to work and sometimes this would mean coming home tired from a long day’s work, just to start my day job as a mother. There were times when I wanted to give up, but the look in my child’s eyes told me not even to think of it. This was the time I developed my work ethic and learned that perseverance doesn’t care about circumstances: it just shows up.
All these challenges may have taken their toll on my life, but they also molded me into a caring, empathetic, determined person. My child taught me those qualities, and I plan to return that to my future patients. I will be there for them, not just physically but also emotionally and psychologically because I know what it means to have someone there for you.
This scholarship might be a passing aid for most, but for me, it would mean a pause in my financial struggles. It would help me deepen my education, and who knows, it might help create a more understanding and loving nurse. Motherhood showed me exactly who I was. A future nurse.
From Anna & Ava Scholarship
I am pursuing a career in nursing because it represents the place where my strength, compassion, and purpose come together. Nursing is not simply a profession I chose it is a calling that grew from my personal experiences, from the challenges that shaped me, and from the moments of caregiving that revealed who I truly am. Becoming a nurse means being able to offer the same comfort, dignity, and healing presence that once made all the difference in my own family, and it means building a stable and meaningful future for myself and my child.
My passion for nursing began when I became the caregiver for my ill father at a young age. It was a role I assumed out of love, but one that opened my eyes to the power of compassionate care. I witnessed firsthand the fear, uncertainty, and pain that illness can bring, yet I also saw the hope and relief that simple acts of kindness can provide. One memory will forever stay with me: offering my father a cold treat to soothe him after a difficult day and watching his face soften with gratitude. That moment taught me that healing is not only found in medicine, but in presence, comfort, and genuine care. I realized then that I wanted to be someone who could bring that kind of comfort to others during their most vulnerable moments.
Motherhood deepened my commitment to this path. Becoming a mother at a young age required tremendous strength, sacrifice, and maturity. Balancing school, work, and parenting has been challenging, but it has also given me a level of resilience that I bring into everything I do. I learned how to prioritize, how to advocate, and how to keep pushing forward even when I felt overwhelmed. My child is one of my greatest motivations to continue my education and build a career that provides stability, pride, and a future filled with possibilities. I want my child to grow up seeing that hard work, compassion, and determination can open doors, even when life becomes difficult.
Despite my drive and dedication, the financial demands of pursuing a nursing degree present a major challenge. Tuition, textbooks, clinical supplies, uniforms, and transportation add up quickly, and as a parent with limited financial resources, the burden can feel overwhelming. I am committed to completing my education, but without financial support, the path becomes significantly harder. This scholarship would relieve the pressure of constantly having to choose between essential living expenses and the tools I need for school. It would allow me to focus my energy where it truly belongs on mastering the skills and knowledge required to provide exceptional care to future patients.
More than financial relief, this scholarship would be an investment in the nurse I am working to become. With your support, I will be able to complete my nursing program, enter the workforce with confidence, and ultimately give back to my community. My long-term goal is to become a registered nurse and later specialize in women’s health or critical care fields that require deep empathy, strong communication, and a calm presence, all qualities shaped by my own lived experiences. I want to be the nurse who reassures a frightened patient, who supports families during difficult moments, and who brings hope when it is needed most.
I am pursuing nursing because it is my purpose. This scholarship will help me turn that purpose into a reality, allowing me to transform my experiences, challenges, and dreams into a career dedicated to care, service, and compassion.
Equity Elevate Scholarship
My life has been shaped by experiences that have taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of serving others. These experiences have not only molded my character but have also guided me toward my aspiration of becoming a nurse. From a young age, I learned that life’s challenges are not meant to stop me, but to strengthen me. Through caregiving, parenthood, and personal struggle, I discovered a purpose far greater than myself: the desire to heal, comfort, and uplift those who depend on compassionate care.
One of the earliest experiences that influenced my path was becoming a caregiver within my own family. Caring for loved ones through illness taught me how deeply a person’s presence, patience, and empathy can affect someone who is suffering. I learned how to listen not just to symptoms, but to emotions. I saw firsthand how a calm voice, a warm hand, and a sense of dignity can make the difference between fear and hope.
As I grew older, motherhood further shaped my dreams. Becoming a parent transformed my understanding of responsibility, sacrifice, and unconditional care. Balancing school, work, and the needs of my child showed me that perseverance is often born out of love. There were nights when I would study after only a few hours of sleep, mornings when I pushed through exhaustion to keep moving forward, and moments when I questioned whether I could manage it all. Yet every challenge strengthened me. Motherhood taught me how to advocate, multitask, and make decisions under pressure all skills essential in the nursing profession. It also deepened my compassion, reminding me that everyone, regardless of age, background, or struggle, deserves to feel seen, safe, and cared for.
Financial hardship has also influenced my career goals. Navigating life with limited resources forced me to be resourceful and determined. I learned to value education not just as an opportunity, but as a lifeline that could change the course of my family’s future. The challenges I faced never discouraged me; instead, they fueled my motivation to pursue a career that offers stability while also allowing me to give back. Nursing embodies both. Through nursing, I can provide for my family while dedicating myself to meaningful work that improves the lives of others.
These experiences have inspired me to pursue a nursing career where I can combine my compassion, strength, and desire to serve. My goal is to become a registered nurse and eventually specialize in either women’s health or critical care. I am drawn to these areas because they align with the empathy, urgency, and hope that have shaped my own journey. I want to be present for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments, offering not only clinical care but emotional support. I want to be the person who listens, advocates, and stands beside those who feel overwhelmed just as so many have done for me.
Ultimately, my life experiences have taught me that purpose is born through perseverance. Every challenge I have faced has guided me toward a career built on service, resilience, and compassion. Nursing is more than a profession; it is the fulfillment of a calling forged through caregiving, motherhood, and personal struggle. My journey has prepared me to care deeply, work tirelessly, and dedicate myself to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. This scholarship will not only support my educational goals but will also help me continue turning my life experiences into a career that serves, heals, and uplifts.
Liz & Wayne Matson Jr. Caregiver Scholarship
My name is Naromie Elysee, and my identity has been shaped by one defining role—the role of caregiver. From a very young age, I came to understand the true meaning of compassion, patience, and resilience through caring for those I love most. My experiences as a caregiver have not only molded my character but have also inspired my journey toward a nursing career. I have learned that caring for others goes far beyond meeting physical needs; it is about offering comfort, dignity, and hope when people need it the most.
My journey as a caregiver began in childhood when my mother became ill. I was too young to fully understand the nature of her sickness, but I knew she needed love, attention, and strength. I remember sitting by her bedside, holding her hand, and doing whatever I could to ease her pain. Those moments left an imprint on my heart. They taught me what true empathy means and awakened within me a powerful desire to help others heal. Over time, I realized that the compassion I felt for my mother extended beyond my family I wanted to help anyone who was suffering. It was then that my dream of becoming a nurse was born.
As I grew older, caregiving became more than a family responsibility; it became a way of life. When I became a mother myself, I discovered an even deeper sense of selflessness and strength. Balancing my roles as a mother, student, and caregiver has never been easy. There were days when exhaustion felt overwhelming, yet every sacrifice was worth it. Through these experiences, I learned how to stay calm under pressure, listen with empathy, and lead with my heart qualities that now guide me in every aspect of my life.
My dream is to become a nurse who provides not only excellent medical care but also emotional support to patients and their families. I have seen firsthand how a simple gesture of kindness or a reassuring word can change someone’s outlook during difficult times. I want to be that person the one who reminds patients that they are not alone. My caregiving background has helped me understand the importance of holistic care that addresses both the physical condition and the emotional and spiritual well-being of those I serve.
Beyond shaping my professional goals, caregiving has also shaped my identity. It has taught me the power of empathy, the beauty of serving others, and the strength that comes from perseverance. I have learned to appreciate the small blessings in life and to find purpose even in moments of struggle. Taking care of my mother and raising my son have shown me that love and compassion are the most powerful tools for healing.
My journey as a caregiver has not only defined who I am but has also clarified who I am meant to become. Nursing is more than a career path for me it is the consolidation of my purpose and my profession, the way I will continue to live out the values that have guided my life since childhood.
Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship
The desire to attain an advanced degree in nursing comes from a lifelong passion to provide the best possible care to those in need. I believe that furthering my education will allow me to become a more skillful and effective caregiver, advocate, and leader for my patients and their families. My name is Naromie Elysee, and I am a proud mother, caregiver, and student who has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds, including families in underserved communities. My goal has always been simple yet profound to make a positive difference in people’s lives through compassion, knowledge, and service.
From a young age, I learned the true meaning of care. My mother was ill throughout my childhood, and watching her struggle with her health had a lasting impact on me. I often felt helpless, wishing I could do more to ease her pain. As for myself I grew up having asthma and both of my parents always rushing me to the emergency room. That experience ignited something powerful within me a passion for helping others and a deep desire to understand how to care for those who are vulnerable. It was during those years that the seed for my nursing career was planted. Nursing became not just a career path, but a calling one that aligns with my empathy, resilience, and lifelong dedication to serving others.
As I grew older, my commitment to healthcare and community service continued to deepen. I volunteered in various capacities, including leading local school initiatives focused on disease prevention and good hygiene practices. These experiences reinforced my belief that education and compassion are key elements in promoting better health outcomes. I have always been particularly concerned with the well-being of families and the elderly, whose care often requires patience, understanding, and emotional strength. My desire to provide the highest standard of care for these populations has inspired me to pursue an advanced nursing degree that will expand both my knowledge and my ability to serve effectively.
My journey to becoming a nurse has not been without challenges. Balancing motherhood, caregiving, and academics has required perseverance, determination, and sacrifice. Yet every obstacle has strengthened my resolve and reminded me why I chose this path. My drive to continue my education is stronger than ever because I understand that professional growth in nursing is not just about personal achievement it is about improving the lives of others. By investing in my education, I am investing in the health and future of my community.
With an advanced nursing degree, I hope to serve as both a caregiver and an educator. I aspire to mentor and train future nurses while continuing to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients of all ages, backgrounds, and economic circumstances. I believe that everyone deserves access to excellent healthcare, regardless of financial or social status. Through advocacy, education, and hands-on care, I plan to help close the health disparities gap that continues to affect underserved populations.
Earning a graduate nursing degree is an essential step toward achieving these goals. With hard work, dedication, and the support of those who believe in my potential, I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact in both nursing and my community. Thank you for considering my application and for giving me the opportunity to share my passion, dreams, and commitment to advancing the field of nursing.
Aaryn Railyn King Foundation Scholarship
My name is Naromie Elysee, and my path toward a medical profession has been shaped by empathy, persistence, and a firm conviction in the transformative power of compassion. I am a proud mother, a devoted caregiver, and now a determined student pursuing my nursing aspirations. My life has been filled with challenges that have tested my strength and resilience, yet those same challenges have given me purpose. Every obstacle I have encountered has reinforced my desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives through the field of healthcare.
From a young age, I knew that my calling was to help others. I was always the person family and friends turned to in moments of fear, sorrow, and uncertainty. For me, it was never just about offering comfort it was about giving hope. Over time, I came to understand that my deep sense of empathy was not just a personal trait; it was a vocation. Nursing, to me, represents the perfect balance of heart and skill the place where compassion meets science and where kindness can truly transform lives. It is the profession through which my empathy, strength, and love for humanity can come together to create meaningful change in the world.
The decision to return to school was both difficult and transformative. Balancing motherhood, caregiving, and academics is no easy task. There are days when exhaustion threatens to overwhelm me and moments when self-doubt tries to take hold. But every lesson learned, every exam completed, and every step forward reminds me why I started. Each day I spend pursuing my education is a day closer to achieving not only my dream but also my purpose. When I look at my son, I am reminded of the reason behind my journey to show him that no dream is too far out of reach when you have the courage, determination, and faith to pursue it. Through my actions, I want to teach him that even in the face of hardship, perseverance can turn challenges into opportunities for growth.
As I continue on this path, my goal is to use my nursing career to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I want to be a source of care, comfort, and healing for those who need it most especially individuals in underserved communities who often lack access to quality healthcare. I believe that true healing extends beyond medicine; it lies in compassion, respect, and human connection. My dream is to not only provide medical care but also to offer hope and dignity to every patient I encounter.
Ultimately, I want to leave a legacy of empathy and service. I plan to contribute to community health initiatives, educate others about preventive care, and advocate for those whose voices are often unheard. I want my work in healthcare to reflect the lessons life has taught me that compassion is powerful, resilience is essential, and every act of kindness creates a ripple that can change lives.
Returning to school has reignited my sense of purpose and given me a renewed belief in the strength of the human spirit. My journey has shown me that it is never too late to follow your calling. Through nursing, I hope to heal, inspire, and make a lasting impact one patient, one family, and one heart at a time.
Harvey and Geneva Mabry Second Time Around Scholarship
My name is Naromie Elysee, and my path through life hasn’t been the road most traveled. I am a proud mother, a devoted caregiver, and now, a returning student pursuing my nursing degree. Everything I have done has been rooted in love, responsibility, and an unwavering desire to create a better life not just for myself, but for my family and my community. Returning to school has been one of the bravest and most fulfilling decisions of my life, inspired by both personal growth and a higher calling to serve others.
Despite my nurturing personality, my dream of becoming a nurse had to wait patiently on the back burner, like so many others. I became a mother at a young age and soon found myself taking care of my sick mother as well. Overnight, I became the primary provider for my family, making difficult choices to ensure that my loved ones had the support they needed. The bills piled up, and my dreams slowly began to fade into the background, becoming something I told myself I would pursue “one day.” Still, deep down, I never stopped believing in my purpose. That quiet voice within me continued to whisper, reminding me that it is never too late when it comes to matters of the heart.
The turning point came when my son began asking me questions about my dreams and aspirations. “Mommy, what did you want to be when you grew up?” he asked one day. His innocent question stopped me in my tracks. In that moment, I realized that the best way to teach my son about perseverance, hope, and faith was to show him through my own actions. I wanted him to see that even in the darkest times, the human spirit has the power to rebuild, rise, and thrive again. That realization became the spark I needed to reignite my dreams. With renewed determination, I made the decision to return to school and pursue my lifelong goal of becoming a nurse.
My journey as a returning student has not been easy. Balancing the roles of mother, caregiver, and student requires strength, discipline, and sacrifice. There are nights when I hardly sleep, mornings when I fight exhaustion, and moments when self-doubt creeps in. But every time I step into a classroom or turn in an assignment, a wave of pride washes over me. Each moment reminds me that I am not just earning a degree I am building a future. I am creating a foundation for my family’s stability and showing my son that determination and faith can overcome any obstacle.
Returning to school is not simply about career advancement for me; it is about living my purpose and giving back. Nursing is more than a profession it is an extension of who I am. I want to serve my community with compassion, empathy, and understanding, just as I have served my family. Through my education, I am preparing myself to make a real difference in the lives of others, while also inspiring those around me to never give up on their dreams.
This journey has reminded me that it is never too late to begin again. The road may be difficult, but every challenge brings growth, and every step brings me closer to fulfilling my calling. I am proud of how far I have come, and I look forward to the day I can use my skills and compassion as a nurse to help others find hope just as I found mine in returning to school.
Purple Dream Scholarship
Taking classes while being a single parent has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. As a mother, I know that my responsibilities extend far beyond my own needs. I have had to work tirelessly to balance caring for my child, attending classes, and completing coursework. Being a student is demanding enough, but managing school while raising a child adds an entirely new level of difficulty. Many nights, I only get four to five hours of sleep, yet I push forward because I understand the importance of staying on track, keeping priorities straight, and putting the needs of my child before my own. This journey has taught me resilience, organization, and perseverance.
Financial challenges have been another significant obstacle. The cost of living, tuition, and daily expenses creates constant pressure. There have been times when I had to work extra hours sometimes ten or more in a single day leaving little time to spend with my child. Watching my child spend hours playing alone while I worked has been difficult, yet it has also motivated me to keep moving forward. Despite the hardships, I have sought out scholarships, grants, and part-time work to ensure I can continue my education and provide a stable future for my family. These experiences have taught me financial responsibility, resourcefulness, and the value of hard work.
Being a single parent has shaped my character and worldview. I have learned the importance of patience, empathy, and adaptability—qualities that guide me not only as a parent but also as a student and future professional. I am driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others, rather than simply focusing on my own life. I look forward to becoming involved in student and alumni organizations, joining clubs, and engaging with my campus community to expand my network and serve as a role model. My goal is to educate and support others, helping them overcome challenges as they pursue their own dreams.
Receiving this scholarship would be life-changing. It would allow me to focus entirely on my studies and clinical training without the constant stress of balancing work, finances, and family responsibilities. With this support, I could dedicate more time to learning, excel academically, and complete my degree efficiently. Most importantly, it would bring me closer to achieving my dream of building a brighter, more hopeful future for myself and my family. With my education, I plan to give back to my community, mentor others, and use my skills to help those who face similar challenges.
My journey as a single parent pursuing higher education has shaped me into a stronger, more resilient, and determined person. I have grown in ways I could not have imagined, learning lessons about perseverance, responsibility, and selflessness. This scholarship would help me achieve academic success, pursue my career goals, and provide a stable, secure future for my family. It would also allow me to demonstrate the importance of hard work, dedication, and ambition to others who aspire to overcome obstacles and follow their dreams.
Promising Pathways-Single Parent Scholarship
I am now pursuing a degree in nursing because I have a strong desire to help others as well as a desire to make the world a better place.
I want to give a helping hand to individuals when they are most vulnerable, using whatever knowledge, skills, and compassion I have. My studies will help me develop a solid foundation in patient care, communication skills and time-management. In addition, the coursework will strengthened my critical thinking and problem-solving skills while instilling the virtue of empathy in professional practice. Every lesson I learn brings me closer to my objective to become a professional who can help people in a calculated process.
As a single parent, I’ve faced many challenges as a student that has tested my willpower. Constantly juggling studies, practicals and parenting often appears to be an uphill task. Me managing the house, emotionally and financially supporting my child, as well as spending time on their studies takes a lot of effort. At times, I feel challenged by fatigue and doubt. But I always remember why I am studying in the first place. Financial challenges have also been significant. It can be challenging to manage tuition, textbooks, and daily expenses on a single income. I have had to work part-time jobs, apply for financial aid, and make sacrifices to ensure I can pay for school. Dealing with these obstacles made me resilient. Also, I learned to manage my time while being present for my child. My family inspires me to not just succeed for myself but also for them. My determination to succeed has also become stronger for our brighter future.
Once I complete my degree, I will use all the knowledge and skills I acquire to help my community. In nursing, I plan to work with people and families who don’t have access to great care and guidance. I want to empower people to feel seen, heard and taken care of education, preventive care and personalized support. I also aim for this to support other single parents and students who have had similar struggles like me to show them how having perseverance, determination, and a good support system can help you succeed. I have a long-term vision to develop wellness programs, financial literacy programs, or anything else that would be helpful in my area of expertise based on the need I find through my work. The purpose of my essay is to show education as a tool not only for professional gains but also for achieving positive change in society.
To sum it up, I have faced several challenges as a single parent while pursuing higher education. Tough situations in life make a person stronger, more skilled, and more compassionate. They can make one sensitive to others and their feelings. My education will not only benefit me but also enable me to give back to my community, guide others and create opportunities for people like me. When I get my degree, I will be able to make a difference in someone’s life. I will encourage others to keep trying and not give up.
Zedikiah Randolph Memorial Scholarship
My name is Naromie Elysee and I hope to work in the health care industry as a registered nurse when I am finished my study.
As long as I can remember, I have always been attracted to fields that permit skill, knowledge, and care to be used to affect the lives of people. I chose this degree program because the link between my degree program and my personal life experience is connection, which is also one of my strengths. Together with my convictions and my aspirations to serve will form the foundation of my work life. Rephrased: Through my learning and experience, I can create a difference in society and help people lead healthier, knowledgeable and more fulfilling lives. I am motivated by this thought.
Throughout my life experiences and the mentors I have encountered made me choose this specific field and work profession. For instance, I grew up suffering from a chronic illness. I saw how the healthcare professionals deal with chronic patients and guide them regularly. So, I decided to pursue a degree in nursing. I want to be just like them and provide guidance to sick patients. From observing them, I have learnt that expertise must be supplemented with empathy; I plan to perform very well in my area. My education can help people with their problems and accomplish their goals.
I'm proud to fill a demographic gap in this field as a student in this programme. For example, only 6.3% of people in my field are Black, so there is a challenge and opportunity for me. Thanks to being in a minority, I can be a role model as someone who has diversity and inclusion. I'm here to show the younger generation that through hard work, persistence, and dedication, they can come into the space where people that look like them do not present. Representation matters because it can instill confidence, provide proof and encourage young people to work in areas they didn’t think imaginable.
I want to use what I learn in the future to benefit my community. I can provide services and mentorship and help out through outreach. For instance, you might write, as a nurse, I will deliver preventive care, health education, and support to families in underserved communities who have little access to quality health care. Or, as an accountant, I will offer financial literacy workshops and guidance to help small businesses and individuals achieve stability and growth.
In addition to direct service, I have been committed to mentoring students and young professionals, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to ensure they have the knowledge, tools and confidence to pursue higher education and professional careers.
At the end of the day, I believe my education is not just for me but for providing the platform for others. I want to show future generations that excellence, determination and representation can break boundaries and increase the odds for those who follow. I aim to integrate my professional expertise with advocacy, mentorship and service to leave a lasting impact on our community. I want to dedicate my time and try hard to help others. Through it all, I’ll try hard for making the community more equal.
Rev. and Mrs. E B Dunbar Scholarship
Higher education has been both a challenge and a long-term goal for me. Throughout my experiences, several barriers have shaken my confidence and exposed my weaknesses, while simultaneously shaping who I am today. After completing my education, I know I will face many obstacles in the workforce. Managing life’s responsibilities requires juggling multiple elements while continuously meeting academic and personal demands. Fulfilling a lot of responsibilities has helped strengthen my character and provided valuable, practical experiences, while also allowing me to serve as a role model. There were moments when I doubted my ability to continue, but I reminded myself of my long-term goal: to earn my associates degree and create a better life for myself and those around me.
My pursuit of education has also been challenged by financial difficulties. For years, I have been concerned about growing debt while pursuing certifications and tuition. Relying on a single paycheck can be stressful and has sometimes forced me to miss classes to attend important work obligations. These difficult experiences have taught me valuable skills in time management, resilience, and problem-solving. Despite the financial obstacles I have faced, I remain determined to achieve my goals. I have actively sought scholarships, grants, and other financial assistance while remaining committed to pursuing further opportunities for support.
Higher education can be difficult to navigate, especially for those who have taken breaks or faced interruptions in their academic journey. Developing discipline and focus is essential to successfully completing college. Initially, I struggled to adapt to the pace of my coursework and the technical skills required in my major, but I refused to give up. I dedicated my free time to studying and improving my skills. Over time, I developed a confidence I had never known before, and I became better equipped to handle challenges both academically and personally.
These experiences have not only strengthened my character but also reshaped my understanding of the importance of contributing to society. I have seen the profound impact that access to education, healthcare, and resources can have on people’s lives. My goal is to continue gaining knowledge so I can make a meaningful difference. With my degree, I hope to work in the healthcare field, providing education and care to individuals and families who lack access to these essential services. I believe healthcare should be personal and community-focused, empowering individuals to take control of their health.
In addition, I want to mentor students in my community who may doubt their ability to graduate or pursue their chosen path. I hope to develop programs that combine education, health awareness, and community service to improve the lives of those around me. Ultimately, the challenges I have faced, while difficult, have helped me become a more resilient, persistent, and compassionate person. My college education equips me not only to succeed personally but also to give back to my community in meaningful ways.

My father died of a stroke at work, which was the most tragic and defining moment of my life. I was shocked and lost my voice; words cannot adequately convey the emptiness I felt. My father was the strongest person in my family, a hard worker with a great spirit. That one day changed everything. I had to confront the frailty of life, the cruel reality of death, and the importance of health and compassion. Though it caused immense pain, his passing taught me valuable lessons that strengthened my character. It also inspired a sense of purpose within me the desire to help others through illness which became my dream to become a nurse. I wish someone could have saved my father, and while that was not possible, I hope to help every person in a similar situation.
I still remember the day clearly. My father left home that morning as he always did, smiling and wishing me a good day. A few hours later, a phone call altered our lives forever. After complaining of dizziness and numbness at work, he collapsed. By the time help arrived, he was unresponsive. The doctors informed us that he had suffered a massive stroke. I remember rushing to the hospital, my heart racing, praying for a miracle. Seeing him motionless, surrounded by machines in that hospital bed, was unbearably difficult. That same evening, he passed away, leaving us shocked and heartbroken. I could not comprehend that the man who had been so strong just the day before was suddenly gone.
In the months that followed, the pain was unbearable. My father had been my role model, the person who taught me how to work hard, be kind, and act with integrity. Losing him so suddenly reminded me how unpredictable life can be. It also forced me to think deeply about health awareness and preventive care. Through my grief, I discovered strength. Witnessing my family’s struggles after his passing taught me resilience and responsibility. I had to mature quickly, support my loved ones, and find meaning in our loss. I realized that my father’s legacy would live on through my actions, not just in words. His empathy for others and commitment to doing the right thing motivated me to dedicate my life to helping others.
My father’s death has shaped my goals and the way I live my life. I have learned to value every moment and never take my loved ones for granted. It has inspired me to educate others about the signs of strokes and other preventable conditions. I aim to focus on preventive care and health education, empowering individuals and communities to make informed decisions about their health before it is too late. This loss has also transformed my outlook on life. I have learned that growth can come from heartbreak, and that strength is not the absence of difficulty but the ability to rise again when life brings you down. My father’s death taught me to see the person behind the illness, not just the disease itself. It gave me purpose and reaffirmed that nursing is not just a career for me it is a tribute to my father and his compassionate legacy.
Although losing my father was the hardest experience of my life, it has made me stronger. His passing reminded me that while life is fragile, love and purpose endure. I strive each day to honor him by helping others and raising awareness. My father’s legacy inspires me to pursue my dreams and make a meaningful impact on the lives of others every day.

It also inspired a sense of purpose within me the desire to help others through illness, which became my dream to become a nurse.

Sheila A Burke Memorial Scholarship
I want to be an inspiring nurse who brings healing and hope to every patient an essential nurse that every patient wishes they could have at home, not just inside an institution. I see myself as a supporter, educator, and comforting presence for those in my care, someone who earns their trust and provides strength when they are most vulnerable. For me, nursing is more than a profession it is my life’s purpose, a calling that allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. As a young child with asthma, I experienced firsthand the power of nursing care. I remember the nurses who treated me, going beyond checking my vitals or giving me medicine. They spoke gently, encouraged my parents to have faith, and gave me the courage to keep fighting. The compassion and comfort they offered left a deep mark on me and inspired me to one day be that same source of strength for others. Those experiences motivated me to become a nurse who cares for the whole person, not just their illness.
As a student nurse, I see myself gaining experience in hospitals or clinical settings where I can strengthen my clinical skills, critical thinking, and technical abilities. I look forward to collaborating with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide high-quality, evidence-based care. My goal is to specialize in pediatric or respiratory nursing fields closely connected to my own childhood experiences and my passion for helping children with chronic illnesses. I want to use both my medical knowledge and personal understanding to comfort families and teach them how to manage conditions that may feel overwhelming. As I advance in my career, I aspire to further my education and become a nurse practitioner. In that role, I would focus on diagnosis, patient education, and preventive care.
In the long term, I envision opening a community health clinic that provides affordable and accessible care to all individuals, regardless of their financial situation. I firmly believe that everyone no matter how rich or poor deserves access to quality healthcare. By offering wellness programs, screenings, and health education, I hope to empower people to take control of their health and prevent disease before it starts. Beyond my personal ambitions, I also want to serve as a mentor for future nursing students, guiding them to find passion, purpose, and resilience in their work. Nursing can be demanding, but it is also one of the most rewarding professions in the world. My hope is to inspire others to lead with compassion, empathy, and integrity values that lie at the heart of my own journey.
In the future, I see myself contributing to the improvement of healthcare systems, particularly in the way we educate and comfort patients. Nurses not only help people recover physically but also play a vital role in emotional healing. I want to help create patient-centered programs where every individual feels respected, informed, and supported throughout their care and recovery. Ultimately, I see myself not just as a nurse by title but as a beacon of light in moments of darkness, a voice for those who cannot speak, and a source of comfort for frightened families. My goal is to link science with compassion, professionalism with empathy, and skill with humanity. In ten years, I envision myself as a knowledgeable, confident, and compassionate nurse who continues to grow and give back. I will never forget where I started or the nurses who inspired me to follow this path. Above all, I believe in the worth of every person, and through the power of nursing, I hope to bring healing, hope, and kindness to a world that needs more of it.
Rose Browne Memorial Scholarship for Nursing
Having asthma as a child made me who I am today. When I was young, I spent many nights in the hospital struggling to breathe. Those moments were frightening, but what stands out most in my memory are the nurses who cared for me. They spoke in calm, reassuring voices, comforted my worried parents, and treated me with such kindness that my fear began to fade. Their compassion and skill inspired me to want to help others in the same way. Living with a chronic condition taught me what it means to rely on others and to trust the healthcare system. The nurses who looked after me were more than caregivers they were my comfort, my cheerleaders, and my heroes. They showed me that nursing is not just about medicine and procedures, but also about understanding, empathy, and human connection.
I realized that I wanted to be like them to bring peace in times of chaos and inspire hope when fear takes over. I want to be a nurse, and I dedicate my heart and energy to achieving that goal, just like my mother always encouraged me to do. I once read a phrase that deeply resonated with me: “One’s body, heart, and mind ailment of the disease.” I love this because it focuses on healing the heart and mind along with the body something I believe is at the core of nursing. Having been a patient myself, I understand what it feels like to be scared or uncertain, and I feel great empathy for those going through similar experiences. My health challenges have strengthened me and affirmed that nursing is the best path for me.
Receiving this scholarship would mean more than just financial support it would be an investment in my dream. It would allow me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical training without the heavy weight of financial worry. I am committed to working hard, learning from every experience, and giving back by providing quality, compassionate care to my community. My long-term goal is to become a registered nurse and specialize in respiratory or pediatric care so I can help children facing the same health challenges I once did. I want to be a steady hand to hold, a comforting presence in the dark, and a reassuring voice that helps others rest easier.
Nursing is not just a career for me it is my purpose. The experiences that once made me weak have now become my strength and motivation. The nurses who helped me breathe easier as a child are the reason I hope to help others do the same. Receiving this scholarship will bring me closer to realizing my passion and allow me to dedicate my life to caring, healing, and making a positive impact one patient at a time.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
When I had an asthma attack as a child, I remember often visiting the hospital. I can still recall the sound of the beeping monitors and the smell of the antiseptic hallways. I was scared, and so were my parents, but the nurses always had a calm and reassuring presence that helped ease our fear. One nurse in particular knelt beside me to explain how to use my inhaler and gently told my parents that I would be fine. That moment had a lasting impact on me. It was not only the medical care I received that mattered, but also the hope, guidance, and comfort she provided. It was then that I realized how much of an impact a nurse can have, and I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to doing the same—caring for others with compassion and skill.
I want to study nursing because I love science. “I use science to serve” is the motto of our science club, and it perfectly describes my motivation for pursuing this career. Nursing as a profession is not just about treating a patient’s illness; it is about educating, assisting, and empowering patients and their families during times of vulnerability. My nursing education will help me develop the skills to deliver quality care while building meaningful connections with my patients. I want to become the type of nurse who not only treats symptoms but also listens, comforts, and helps patients take charge of their health.
My goal as a nurse extends beyond the bedside. I want to serve my community by promoting health education, preventive care, and wellness programs. As a child, I saw firsthand how limited access to healthcare and information can harm people’s well-being, and I want to change that. My ambition is to help individuals manage chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension, while also sharing advice to help prevent disease before it starts. I want to reduce health inequities in my community through knowledge and by supporting quality healthcare services. By promoting wellness and prevention, I hope to build a healthier and stronger community where everyone can thrive.
With the help of this scholarship, I will be able to achieve these goals. It will allow me to focus fully on my studies and clinical training, gaining the knowledge and experience I need to become an exceptional nurse. I will continue to learn compassion, patience, and empowerment—qualities that will enable me to provide holistic care to individuals and society as a whole. This scholarship will not only relieve my financial burden but also give me the opportunity to make a lasting impact in my community and in the lives of others.
Nursing is more than a career to me—it is a calling. It represents a lifelong pledge to serve others with knowledge, compassion, and empathy. It is the chance to comfort a frightened child, reassure a worried parent, and offer hope to someone facing illness. Through this scholarship, I will take the next step toward becoming a nurse who inspires healing, promotes wellness, and strengthens both the health and spirit of my community. I want to honor the care I once received as a child by giving that same love and professionalism to others, making a difference in their lives every single day.

Having asthma growing up formed me into the person I am today. When I was a child, I often found it hard to breathe at night, and as a result, my parents would rush me to the hospital. Those moments were scary, but what I remember most are the nurses who cared for me. They reassured my parents and treated me with such kindness that I didn’t feel like I was going through a medical emergency. Because of their compassion and skill, I wanted to help others the same way they helped me. Being sick for a long time made me feel vulnerable and dependent on healthcare professionals, but it also gave me a deep appreciation for their work. The nurses who took care of me were my comfort, my encouragement, and my superheroes. They didn’t just treat me medically; they connected with me emotionally and made me feel safe.
Nursing, I’ve learned, is not only about medicine and procedures but also about understanding, empathy, and human connection. I looked up to those nurses and wanted to be like them—an agent of calm in chaos and a source of hope in fear. Now, as I aim to become a nurse myself, I put forth my utmost effort and, more importantly, my heart. I understand that illness doesn’t just affect the body but also the heart and mind. Because I have gone through similar experiences, I feel great compassion for patients who are scared or uncertain. Nursing allows me to transform my past struggles into strength and use them to comfort and care for others.
Winning this scholarship would not only help me financially but also mean investing in my dream. It would be a life-changing experience that allows me to focus on my studies and clinical training without the financial burden that often comes with pursuing higher education. I am committed to working hard, learning diligently, and giving back to my community with quality care and compassion. My goal is to become a registered nurse, and eventually, I hope to specialize in respiratory or pediatric nursing so I can work directly with children who face health challenges similar to mine. I want to comfort families, empower patients, and remind them that even in the midst of struggle, there is always hope.
Nursing is not just a career for me—it is my purpose. The things that once made me weak have now become my greatest strengths, equipping me to face life with empathy and resilience. I am forever grateful to the nurses who helped me breathe better as a little girl, and I hope to follow in their footsteps to help others. Winning this scholarship would bring me one step closer to fulfilling my passion—a lifelong commitment to caring, healing, and making a difference, one patient at a time.
MJ Strength in Care Scholarship
My passion and calling in life is nursing. However, I have learned that in order to care for others fully, I must also care for myself. Outside of studying and clinical work, it is necessary to have moments that maintain my balance and inspire me, as well as bring joy that strengthens me as a caregiver. Family, music, community service, and self-reflection bring me joy and wellness in life, allowing me to give the best of myself to nursing.
Family has always been at the center of my happiness. Ever since I grew up facing asthma, I spent much of my childhood in hospitals, where my parents were my greatest source of comfort and strength. Their love, patience, and resilience shaped who I am today and are traits I strive to show in my interactions with others. Spending time with my family is restorative for me. Summer offers wonderful opportunities to share meals, laugh together, or simply sit quietly after a long day. These simple yet meaningful moments keep me grounded and centered, and the values I’ve learned from my family—care, compassion, and understanding—deeply influence the kind of nurse I aspire to become.
Music is another source of joy and balance in my life. For as long as I can remember, music has been a creative outlet and a healing source that eases pain with nostalgia. I feel most at peace when I am listening to a song, playing an instrument, or singing. Music brings people of all backgrounds together and, in many ways, mirrors what nursing represent it requires attentiveness, empathy, and emotional presence. It helps me recharge, refocus, and feel inspired to provide the best patient care possible with patience and positivity.
I also feel deeply fulfilled when I volunteer and engage in community service. Participating in drives, health fairs, and youth projects gives me opportunities to help others beyond the hospital and spread happiness. Through volunteering, I’ve learned that care and compassion extend far beyond a profession—they are a way of life. These experiences have humbled me, taught me gratitude, and reinforced the importance of teamwork and empathy.
Another important element of balance in my life is self-reflection and personal growth. Each day, I take a few moments to pause and be thankful—whether through prayer, journaling, or quiet meditation. This practice helps me stay emotionally strong, balanced, and purposeful. My faith and reflection remind me that life is not just about achievement but about compassion and meaningful connections with others.
My life is not just about being a nurse; it is about being creative, kind, and connected. I take joy in the small things—sharing a laugh, helping a stranger, or brightening someone’s day. These same qualities will shape me into a compassionate, patient, and resilient nurse. Through my family, music, community service, and reflection, I find the balance that nourishes me and prepares me for the challenges ahead. Together, they remind me that the care we give others begins with the care we give ourselves.
