NomineeBio
Hi everyone! My name is Naomi Lopez, and I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin. My major is Psychology in the liberal arts program. I come from a Mexican background, and I have two siblings. One of them is also at the University of Texas at Austin, and my little brother will start college next year.
The thought of all of us attending college at the same time; truly terrifies me. I do not want my mom to get sad and cry because of financial issues. She and my dad have given us everything and supported us every step of the way. I share this personal issue because I want everyone to know that I am trying no matter what. I get stressed easily. However, I always tell myself that things will get better. I also hope to manage my stress better in the future with patience and hope.
Apart from that, I love spending time with my family and my two huskies. I like to watch movies every weekend with them and simply their presence. Overall, I love my family.
My goal, for now, is to get a master's degree in counseling psychology. I have always liked the feeling I get when I make other people feel better. Probably the reason I chose psychology as my future path. However, I believe there is more to that, but that is an answer I need to figure out on my own.
I hope this website helps me pay for my college expenses. I want to help my parents in every way I can because I have seen how hard and stressed they have been because of us.
And thank you to bold.org for the opportunities provided!

Bold Giving Scholarship
I was sitting in front of a friend when one time I saw her make a heart out of the wrapping paper gum. She gave that heart to me. So, I would always have it in my backpack because I thought it was a nice gesture. One day she noticed I had kept it. Since that day, whenever she had gum, she would always make a heart for me. I believe she felt happy and appreciated that I kept something she thought was simple.
Giving can come in many forms, whether it can change a person’s life or a simple piece of paper heart. But what is more important is the way both the giver and the receiver feel. Giving fosters happiness; it draws us closer to other people and increases a positive view of life and warmth.
My way of giving back; is by providing my help to others in gratitude for what they have given me. It does not matter what I receive. As long as their intention was good, I will always be thankful and try to repair it with kindness and empathy.
Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
This may sound peculiar, but I cannot help but love the smell of unique things. The aroma of Home Depot, for example, is extraordinary. It brings me a sense of joy and relaxation. Or like a bizarre non-food craving that I want to eat every time I go there. Therefore, I enjoy a good sniff of Home Depot.
I still do not know the reason behind this obsession I have with home depot’s particular smell. Is it the smell of fresh lumber, the different chemicals, or the opposite end of the store where the garden is? Who knows; it might be a combination of everything they have. But one thing for sure I can tell apart from and love is the smell of fresh lumber. Fresh cut wood has a strong scent that I can smell a mile away before entering the store. Luckily, I can appreciate the smell frequently; because my dad likes to go to Home Depot a lot.
