I am a social work student who is passionate about helping immigrants and refugees. As a Cuban immigrant, I am excited to take my passion for helping people and be able to pay forward some of the kindness my family and I were shown 15 years ago. I enjoy listening to other people's experiences and learning their capabilities and limitations to provide them the best individualized care. I believe in the resiliency and autonomy of others. I am honored to be able to guide individuals as they discover their ability to create positive change in their lives. This is why my experience as a volunteer hotline counselor for 211 Big Bend has been one of my favorites. Through my time there, I have been able to gain invaluable information about my community and the different ways people handle stress. I have also learned how to deescalate situations and get creative with the resources available. My motto is: life is what you make of it, and I intend to craft a life where I am passionate about the work that I do every day.
