My family has been one where we could rarely afford trips or luxury items, my family's income went straight to rent and food. It was very rare for us to go out and have a family day for us since my dad worked full time and still does while my mom works part time. I was one of those children who loved finding a 1 dollar bill on the street and protecting it with my life. One very vivid memory I have is when I was around 10, my sister was 6, and my brother 1, me and my sister both begged my family to take us to Disney that summer but we never understood the extend of how little money my parents have. My parents wanting to bring us joy, decided we would go to Disney, just not with them, they knew they wouldn't be able to afford rent or food if all 5 of us went I remember seeing my parents sitting at our small kitchen table with their little notebooks trying to figure out how they would be able to afford this, as a kid that moment seemed irrelevant but as I see it now I feel shame because I now feel me and my sister were very naive, but I feel that most kids are like that at that age. Now that I am older, I wish to give my parents the experiences they never had. I have always gone to public school, which is very common, though I have wanted to join sports or pursue little hobbies my family was never able to afford them so I worked with what I had, which I believe I did a good job on. Though not many resources were given to me I've always tried my hardest to do well in school, though we all go through our rebellious phases and feel we are too good for school, now as I am about to graduate I have one goal, to make my family and I proud. I am first generation and my parents were never able to go to college, my dad couldn't even finish 3rd grade and this was all due to money. Money is still a worry for me as I continue my journey to go to college though I try and work and save up my money and combine it with my parents money, I know it will still not be enough but I know I've got to push through to get a better education. From what I take away in college and what Ive seen from personal experiences I plan on being the best version of myself I can become, I know it is very difficult in the world we live in now to be able to be the best with the low income I have been brought up with, but I plan to try and overcome that and to reach the same goals any other person can achieve. I plan on taking my family out of the community we live in and bring them to a better community, where they are not in fear of anything and can live calmly, I plan on giving them and myself a better future in this world that is made to bring those with low economy down.
