My unique contribution to the world to make mental health care affordable and accessible to anyone who needs support would be mental health services that are cost-friendly or free mental health facilities. I plan on being an active contributor to my community by organizing local organizations to provide mental health services to patients who need assistance. I will use my ambition for mental health care by dedicating 2 years of my life to being a psychiatric nurse instead of jumping right into following my dream of becoming a NICU nurse. By becoming a psychiatric nurse I can encourage others to join the healthcare field and have first-hand experiences in helping those that need it the most. I will play an imperative role in making the topic of mental health care accessible and affordable for anyone.

Earning the Hakim Mendez Scholarship would have a long-term impact on my career path. I've chosen to pursue higher education because it can expose me to an abundant amount of golden opportunities. This will allow me to broaden my horizons by diving deep into my field of study which is to become a NICU nurse. Higher education will open the door for me to prioritize my career to reach financial stability and financial literacy. Winning this scholarship will be an absolute game-changer. It will give me an unforgettable memory to live with and will have a crucial influence on my potential career and turn my dreams into reality. This can relieve the financial burden for my mom who's a single mom and has raised me by herself; thus instilling three main lessons in me- self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and the most important one which is resilience. Pursuing higher education can be a hard obstacle, but this scholarship will reduce the cost of tuition, room and board, textbooks, etc. By doing this, I can concentrate on my education and the financial element. This Scholarship can set a stepping stone for my aspirations. I will embrace this scholarship in my community by empowering those who are a part of the black and brown community that the sky is the limit. With that being said, winning this scholarship will have a sincere and great effect on fulfilling my future goals and making my mother have a smile on her face. It will give me the financial stability and support that I need, open new doors/golden possibilities, inspire those around me, give me value/a sense of belonging, and most importantly appreciation. As a black student, there is always an obstacle and complication that is intended for setbacks, failure, and misfortune; this opens the door for black people to endure and undergo slowdowns. Thus making it a main priority to be proficient and skillful in every barrier. That is why if I win this scholarship it would prove to racial groups that despite the hurdles and setbacks the sky is the limit, so keep on dreaming. Setbacks and Hurdles are unavoidable and bound to happen, but instead of rejecting them, embrace them because it uplifts personal growth and allows one to keep on trying to improve their circumstance. I will fulfill my future goal of being a NICU by not letting the setback of not being financially stable hold me back.
