Bio

Greetings, My name is Najmo, I am a daughter of immigrants, a first generation college student, a poet, an artist, a mental health advocate from Maine. I am someone who grew up in public housing, received public food benefits, I know first hand the impact social policies and programs can have on an individual. I am at University of Southern Maine pursuing a goal that I have been working hard for, which is Nursing. Besides from being a nursing student, I am a volunteer for the United Nations, and have worked with refugees from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, from building tents in Dadaab refugee camp to serving meals, clothes and mentoring youth. Service is a core value for me, and it led me to pursue a career in public service and nursing. I am planning to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Fall 2020. I plan to continue to work in public service in the summer and pursue this degree full time in the fall and spring. I hope to secure private scholarships to help offset the expenses of school.
