I am the first in my family (extended included) to study biology and will also be the first to study sonography/radiology once I get into the program. Growing up in Tajikistan and living in many different countries, I saw the disparity in access to healthcare and how many people were suffering from lack of healthcare or inadequate healthcare. This experience became worse once I came to the USA and I saw myself and others contemplating whether we could afford to go to the ER, to get that MRI, to take that medication, etc, even if those treatment options were necessary for our health. My goal is to be able to get into medical school and match into residency in Radiology/Radiation Oncology in order to be a doctor (hopefully debt free). After finishing residency, I want to open my own clinic where I can ensure that anyone who will benefit from radiation therapy/getting a scan will have access to it regardless of their income level. Another goal is to be able to share my knowledge in impoverished countries where girls suffer from lack of education (such as my home country) and to encourage girls to go into medicine and science. My hobbies are reading mystery/historical fiction books, listening to music from around the world (Afrobeats, Jazz, Cumbia, etc), finding new comedy shows to watch, and finding fun exercises to do such as hula hooping. I'm also passionate about giving back to my community and always look for volunteer opportunities that will allow me to do so. I have started the process to be a volunteer EMT at a local station.
