      Young Women in STEM Scholarship
My name is Mya Watson. I am a senior and visual arts major at a performing arts high school in Tampa Florida. I am a dual-enrollment student undertaking college and high-school courses to expand my knowledge in science, technology, and the arts. I currently have a 5.6 GPA (weighted). I am a member of the Student Government Association, Key Club, and the secretary of the National Arts Honor Society. I am also a member of both the varsity swim team and the varsity rowing team. I am most interested in fields of study such as industrial engineering , computer science and industrial design so that I can incorporate science and technology with my love of art. I consider myself to be a high achieving student with the desire to do good things in the world with my creativity and my interest in science and technology. I am emphatic about creating things that solve problems that help others. My goal is to pursue a career in STEM and either double major or minor in Industrial Design. This will allow me to develop my passion for creating things that provide a real-world impact in the lives of others. As a recent participant of the 2021 Design the Future digital design program, I receive firsthand experience working with professional engineers and product designers developing an app that would be instrumental in improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities. This experience was very rewarding, and it confirmed that attending college and pursuing my interest in STEM is the direction I need to follow. Although, I have had to overcome my own life challenges losing my father two weeks before Christmas and a week before my 6th birthday, I consider myself very fortunate to have had a very strong and supportive mother who instilled in me the value of education and in making a positive impact in the lives of others. I believe that pursuing my desire for higher learning in a STEM major will give me the tools and research opportunities to fulfill my dreams and make both my mother (and father) proud. Going to college will present some financial challenges for my mom. However, I believe that I have excelled academically, and I have done my very best to assure that I can give myself every opportunity to receive scholarships such as this one that will ensure my college education and lead me on a success path towards my future. Please consider my application for the Young Women in STEM Scholarship. Thank you, Mya Watson

I am a member of the Student Government Association, Key Club, and the secretary of the National Arts Honor Society. I am also a member of both the varsity swim team and the varsity rowing team. I have been researching fields of study such as industrial engineering and biomedical engineering. One of my favorite examples that demonstrate a perfect match between STEM and Art has to do with the creation of utilitarian products like creating prosthetics using artificial intelligence that would assist patience with achieving their best use out the designed piece. I know that technology is a very critical piece but so is the artistic expression of something so significant in the life of the person(s) who will need to rely on a prosthetic, for example. Creating things that are extremely useful is very important to me as I move forward in my knowledge and education. I consider myself to be a high achieving student with the desire to do good things in the world with my creativity and my interest in science and technology.
