    Andy Huff Memorial Scholarship
My name is Muhammedaly Salarov, and I am an international student from Turkmenistan, currently studying computer science at Cascadia College in Washington. Growing up in Turkmenistan, I was always fascinated by technology and its potential to solve complex problems. This curiosity led me to pursue a career in computer science, with the ultimate goal of becoming a computer scientist specializing in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. I chose to study in Washington because of its high level of emphasis on technology and innovation. The Evergreen State hosts numerous frontward-leading technology companies and can provide an optimum, vibrant environment for computer science enthusiasts like me. My ultimate goal, however, is to transfer to the University of Washington and attain a BS in Computer Science by 2028. My major driving forces are making a difference in society by using technology, and designing innovative technology solutions for health-related challenges and cyber threats. My community has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. Back in Turkmenistan, my family faced considerable hardships after the passing of my father, who was the main breadwinner. My mother took on great responsibilities to ensure that our family could continue to thrive despite our circumstances. Her resilience and determination inspired me to work hard and contribute to our household by working as a graphic designer. In addition to the support from my family, my boss also played a crucial role in helping me pursue my dreams. With financial help from my boss, I was able to come to the USA and pursue higher education. This journey has been challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. I have learned to navigate a new culture, adapt to a different educational system, and build a support network in a foreign country. These experiences have strengthened my resolve to succeed and make a meaningful impact through my work. I lived in Ashgabat with my family, which is the capital city of Turkmenistan. But my childhood years were spent in a small village named Tagtabazar. Though Tagtabazar is rural by definition, it has a rural community where everybody knows each other. The togetherness and support in Tagtabazar are things I take to help me navigate life in the USA. I was very instilled with the values of hard work, mutual respect, and community support at Tagtabazar, and giving back to my community, and using my skills to help others, will be a commitment I make. In conclusion, my future goals revolve around using my education and passion for technology to create a better world. My community has deeply influenced my values and work ethic, and I am determined to make a meaningful impact through my career in computer science.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Things like how the computer worked and everything I could learn about it were so exciting to me since I was little. Coming from Turkmenistan, it was pretty hard to gain access to the latest technologies. That didn't stop me from setting out to learn. Thousands of hours—maybe hundreds—I spent working on old computers, teaching myself to code, just driven by curiosity to understand how things work. The first time I was able to write a simple program, I felt that I had opened the gateway to a land of limitless opportunities. That moment started my passion for studying computer science, and I continued on the way to make it my career. I chose computer science because of the power it has to shape the future. In this fast-moving technological world, I strongly believe that computer scientists can develop solutions to better lives across the globe, especially in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analysis—thriving fields with a main focus on very relevant challenges faced today. I would like to use my skills in the development of technologies that help industries grow and, at the same time, make people's lives better. On the long-term goals side, I want to contribute to the development of AI systems that are ethical, accessible, and beneficial to all. I am particularly interested in how AI can be used to really improve education, making top-rate learning resources available to all people, irrespective of their geographic location and economic background. Also, I am very excited about using AI to really revolutionize medicine. From better diagnosis at the beginning to personalized treatment plans at the middle and even disease outbreak predictions at the end, AI can do a great deal in improving health care. I believe that with technological advances in these two areas, a fairer world can be built where all human beings can enjoy good health and quality education. This journey is personal. Everything changed when my father passed away. Inspired by the strength of my mother to take on greater responsibilities after his death, I studied hard and worked hard as a graphic designer and a programmer to support our family, saving up to study abroad. With the financial support of my boss and from my earnings, I came to the United States to pursue my dream of studying computer science. Now, at Cascadia College, I am working toward an Associate's degree to lay a good base for my future. My future academic journey will involve transferring to the University of Washington and completing my Bachelor's in Computer Science, with an expected year of graduation in 2028. Afterwards, I would like to pursue graduate school at MIT, Stanford, or Caltech—some institutions well-known for the quality of their research and innovation. I feel that education from those schools will help arm me with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that will be needed if I am to really make a difference in the world of technology.
    Brandon Repola Memorial Scholarship
As an international student from Turkmenistan studying computer science at Cascadia College, I have embraced the opportunity to gain a global perspective and access to innovative technology and research. My academic journey is rooted in a strong interest in STEM subjects, particularly computer science and software development. My ultimate goal is to earn a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from University of Washington and further my education at graduate schools such as MIT, Stanford, or Caltech. Courage/Yongqi Scholarship
My educational journey has been a testament to perseverance and resilience. Born in Turkmenistan located in the middle of Asia, I was always enthusiastic about technology and what it can do in or on almost every other hard thing a person can face in their day-to-day lives. My quest for higher studies landed me in the United States, renowned for its advanced technology and research capabilities. However, my path is not without significant challenges, particularly regarding my citizenship status. One of the hardest barriers that I have had to battle involves the financial burden associated with studying abroad. As an international student, I am not eligible for federal financial aid, which significantly limits my ability to afford the rising costs of college. My family is generally very supportive but not financially stable enough. After my father passed on, my mother had to work tirelessly to fill the void left in our family. Inspired by her resilience, I worked as a graphic designer to contribute to our household income. I used to save some of my earnings from the job and some support from my boss to come to the USA to build my future in the land of opportunities. I found studying computer science in Cascadia College quite challenging, yet rewarding too. I have always desired to accomplish my goals in a field of interest and that really kept me moving even in the time of financial and emotional crises. There were times the financial strain almost had me give up. The high tuition, housing, and living fees, would sometimes seem insurmountable with no other viable financial aid alternatives. However, the support from family, friends, and mentors has played a key role in my determination. Among the lessons learned, asking for and receiving help is one of the most important. It is not easy, mostly when from a background that believes in a lot of self-reliance, to reach out and admit that you need any assistance at all. I've come to learn that seeking help is strength, not weakness. What has carried me through is the encouragement and financial support from my boss and the moral support from my family and friends. My dreams are centered around using technology to make a significant impact on the world. I hope to transfer to a prestigious institution such as Stanford University to further my expertise in computer science. My goal is to contribute toward artificial intelligence, data analysis, and cybersecurity research areas that hold the potential to solve some of the tough problems in today's world. I also aim to help others learn and use technology effectively, believing that education is a powerful tool for change. In this whole journey, the values I ever recognize with me are resilience, self-driven, and empathy. I have somehow clung through, with perseverance amidst the various challenges. My experiences have made me appreciate others that much more who are going through the same thing, and I am dedicated to using my skills and knowledge to make a difference in the world. In conclusion, my educational journey has been marked by significant challenges, but also by incredible growth and learning. The support I have received is invaluable, and I am committed to giving back and helping others in at least a similar situation. Winning this scholarship would alleviate not only the economic pressure I am in but, more importantly, would allow me to have more free time to pay attention to my studies and contribute to the field of computer science more greatly. Thanks for reviewing my application.
    Rossi and Ferguson Memorial Scholarship
Life is a journey filled with countless possibilities, each day presenting a new challenge or opportunity. Oftentimes, one would be tempted to think optimistically, but equally powerful is the phrase, "What could go wrong?". This phrase, though often viewed negatively, turns out to be a solid tool in preparing how to take on that adversity and be able to go through it triumphantly. In the process of becoming a computer scientist, I have learned that a sure way to succeed is by first acknowledging the possibility of pitfalls. From academic challenges to technological failures, what could go wrong has been a part of my personal and professional development. The most regular area in which things can go awry is none other than academics. Imagine preparing for weeks for an all-important examination, only to freeze up on the day of the test. Yes, the pressure is real, and the fact that a flop can seriously affect my grades and, hence, future opportunities makes it even more pressurizing. Rather than succumbing to anxiety, I have learned not to treat the possibility of failure as a bad thing but more as an enlightening experience. Good study habits, consultative tendencies with professors, and group work with other learners are several strategies I have learned to utilize in managing academic risks. These are the ways not only assisting my success but also rightly enhancing the spirit of perseverance and development. Life itself is unpredictable. Besides academics, an international student from Turkmenistan, I have faced cultural adjustment, homesickness, and financial constraints. There were times when I almost gave up on the idea of going for further studies out of my country, especially after the death of my father, which exposed me to so many emotional and financial difficulties. But I weathered through with the help of family and friends, and the fact that I always reminded myself that challenges are part of our life, and we must exhibit strength and determination. Juggling full-time work as a graphic designer to provide for my family and school at the same time was hard, but, at the same time, built the values of hard work and resourcefulness within me. With financial affairs in order, being better prepared for the fact that times could get a bit rough, and with scholarships to help me get through, I can concentrate better on proper studying. Apart from a chaotic personal life, there are also a number of things that envelop the global landscape in uncertainty. Rapid development in technology brings with it many possibilities and insecurities. The issue of cybersecurity is actually a burning problem in our world that is becoming more and more digitized. Being genuinely passionate about technologies and solving complicated issues, I value the importance of constantly being informed and renewing skills in confronting possible threats. In such a way, I will make my contribution to the world of digital safety and security. In other words, "What could go wrong?" is the question that we not only use to see the negative outcome of events but to set us up in the best position to most effectively handle those results. Academic challenges, personal pitfalls, and technological calamities: being on the lookout for these stumbling blocks helps us form a plan for tackling them head-on. The desire to be a computer scientist has so far earmarked a journey of grappling with adversity using ambition and drive. I am committed to making an immense contribution in my field and beyond. I want to be that person who could face challenges and think about ways to learn from setbacks. It is this never-say-die attitude that Dario Rossi used to say I have, which this scholarship award stands for—validation of not giving up. Guided by this attitude, I am confident that I will be able to decipher the challenges that present themselves along my path and further work hard to realize my college dreams.

    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
Sabrina Carpenter is definitely one of the artists who have influenced me by her music and career in so many ways. Being a fan, I became attached to her how she can balance fun, fast tracks and, on the other hand, credible, heartfelt lyrics that sometimes really personally touched me. Her songs, such as "Please," "Please," "Please," and "Espresso," show her ability to make music enjoyable but deep. I first discovered Sabrina Carpenter through her songs "Skin" and "Paris." Immediately, the singles attracted me with their very distinct sound and lyrical realness. "Skin" discusses relationships and all their tricky ways, including the emotional hustle that goes hand in hand with them. "Paris," on the other hand, visually describes longing and adventure. These songs just really caught my attention for Sabrina and her music, as well as other works she's done. I really do relate to Sabrina Carpenter; she is a very talented songmaker. She has come up with songs that range from really fun to those directly spoken and meaningful, like "Please," "Please," "Please" and "Espresso." In "Please," "Please," "Please," Sabrina sings about relationships so nicely, bringing out clearly the state of confusion or longing. The repetition in the title reflects the desperation and hope, which often many of us experience in such situations, but because of these, the song is very relatable. Much in the vein, "Espresso" is a light track but also deep; it uses coffee as a metaphor to discuss the situation of reference about energy, warmth, and people coming together. The wordplay and imagery in the lyrics are brilliant, much of which offers a nice treat for the ears and more insights into human emotions. Sabrina Carpenter's music has deeply impacted me emotionally and personally. Her songs seem to comfort and motivate me during tough times. For example, whenever I get too overwhelmed by school or personal issues, her music is a way for me to relax and comfort myself. I feel that with the connecting lyrics in her songs, I know that I am never alone and that other people experience the same things I do. Yes, but this feeling of being relieved has been extremely consoling and has made me cross many crises with a more positive angle. What will have been the most stimulating experience so far on this journey for me will be attending her concert in Seattle on November 6. Words cannot describe the feeling of being able to see her live, but I'm waiting to actually experience the energy and emotions she will be exuding during her concert. I mean, it's not just an event; it's like the consummation of the following that she has had and the effect her music has had on my life. In conclusion, Sabrina Carpenter is one of those artists who have affected me in the music career as well as in person. Her light yet touching lyrics, as in the songs "Please", "Please", "Please", and "Espresso", I associate the most with in a very fundamental way, of bringing me both enjoyment and a sense of comfort. In many ways, being a fan of Sabrina Carpenter has enriched my life, and I will always be thankful for the good she has brought into my life.

Growing up in a house with just one parent has definitely shaped who I am today, both in school and in life. It wasn't always easy, but it also gave me some amazing chances to learn and grow. My dad passed away when I was thirteen, so my mom had to take on all the grown-up jobs by herself. This meant a lot of changes for our family. There were times when it felt tough not having another parent around. Sometimes, there wasn't always someone to help with homework or chores or to play catch in the yard. But on the other hand, this situation made me learn how to be strong and take care of things myself. My mom became my superhero. She worked incredibly hard to make sure my sister and I had everything we needed. Seeing her dedication, working so many hours to give us a good life, was truly inspiring. It made me realize how important hard work is, and that with enough effort, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. One of the challenges of being in a single-parent household was the financial situation. Money wasn't always plentiful, and there were times when things felt tight. To help out, I decided to start working as a graphic designer on computers even while I was still in high school. It wasn't easy balancing both work and school at the same time. 1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) reimagines the 2014 pop masterpiece with a fresh lens, and among its standout tracks is "Wildest Dreams." This song delves into themes of aspiration, romance, and the fleeting nature of experiences, capturing the essence of youthful dreams and their ephemeral qualities. Through its lyrics, melody, and production, "Wildest Dreams" presents a compelling narrative about living in the moment while acknowledging the inevitable impermanence of life’s most thrilling moments. The song's lyrics center on a romantic relationship that is passionate yet transient. Swift's narrative voice reflects a love that is exhilarating but destined to be short-lived. The chorus, "He said, 'Let's get out of this town, drive out of the city, away from the crowds,'" evokes a sense of escape and liberation, capturing the excitement of spontaneous adventures. This escapism is contrasted with the acknowledgment of the relationship's impermanence: “But nothing lasts forever, and this is gonna be one of those moments.” The recurring theme of impermanence is crucial in understanding the song's emotional depth. Swift’s lyrics embrace the idea that while certain experiences may not endure, they are valuable for their intensity and the memories they create. This acceptance of transience adds a layer of poignancy to the track, transforming it from a mere celebration of romance to a reflection on the nature of all fleeting joys. Musically, "Wildest Dreams" pairs a lush, dreamy soundscape with a nostalgic 1980s pop influence, creating an atmospheric backdrop that complements the song's themes. The production features a blend of synths and a steady beat that evokes both the excitement and melancholy associated with fleeting moments. The song’s melody and rhythm enhance its reflective quality, drawing listeners into its contemplative mood. Moreover, "Wildest Dreams" resonates with listeners who find themselves navigating the complexities of aspiration and reality. The song’s message is particularly relevant in an age where the pursuit of dreams often clashes with the reality of their transient nature. Swift’s ability to capture this dichotomy speaks to a universal experience, making the song a poignant anthem for those who chase their ambitions while grappling with their fleeting nature. In conclusion, Taylor Swift’s "Wildest Dreams" from 1989 (Taylor's Version) is more than a pop anthem; it is a reflective exploration of the beauty and brevity of life’s most exhilarating moments. Through its lyrics, production, and emotional resonance, the song encapsulates the thrill of living in the present while acknowledging the inevitability of change. It serves as a reminder to embrace the intensity of our experiences, knowing that their impermanence does not diminish their value or impact.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
In Olivia Rodrigo’s album GUTS, the song "Vampire" offers a poignant reflection on the emotional turbulence of adolescence. The lyric, “I’ve been tryin’ to keep my head up / But I can’t stand to see your face,” encapsulates the essence of the teenage experience through its raw portrayal of disillusionment and emotional struggle. This line powerfully illustrates the challenges of navigating relationships and self-identity during adolescence, shedding light on the internal and external conflicts that define this period of life. Adolescence is a transformative stage marked by intense emotional highs and lows. It is a time when individuals are trying to establish their identities, often amidst the backdrop of shifting social dynamics and personal growth. Rodrigo’s lyric captures the essence of this struggle with striking clarity. The phrase “tryin’ to keep my head up” reflects the effort and resilience required to maintain a positive outlook amidst emotional turmoil. The second part of the lyric, “I can’t stand to see your face,” reveals the profound impact of relationships on one’s emotional well-being. This line illustrates the difficulty of moving on from a person who has caused significant emotional pain. For teenagers, who are often experiencing their first serious relationships and heartbreaks, the struggle to reconcile their feelings and find closure can be particularly challenging. The intensity of these emotions can make even the most mundane reminders of a past relationship seem unbearable, highlighting the depth of their emotional investment and the difficulty of overcoming it. Furthermore, Rodrigo’s lyric touches on the broader theme of self-discovery during adolescence. The pain expressed in the song is not just about the end of a relationship but also about the process of coming to terms with one’s own feelings and identity. Adolescence is a period of significant self-discovery, where individuals are not only learning about themselves but also grappling with the expectations and judgments of others. The emotional struggle depicted in “Vampire” reflects the broader challenge of reconciling personal feelings with external pressures and finding a sense of self amidst the chaos. The lyric also emphasizes the isolation that can accompany adolescence. The line “I can’t stand to see your face” suggests a desire to distance oneself from a source of pain, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and alienation. This sense of isolation is a common experience for teenagers, who may feel misunderstood or disconnected from those around them. Rodrigo’s portrayal of this emotion underscores the universal nature of such experiences and the difficulty of navigating them alone. In summary, Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric in “Vampire” effectively captures the essence of adolescence by portraying the emotional struggles and self-discovery that define this stage of life.
