Bio

I'm currently a Neuroscience major at the University of Nevada, Reno. My long-term goal is to apply to a Ph.D. program after graduation to earn a doctorate as a research scientist in the field. I'm passionate about learning more about neural networks, deep learning, cognitive neuroscience, and mental health. A combination of all these fields can better inform the fields of Psychology and Neuroscience on the most effective ways to treat mental health issues. Knowledge from the combined fields can help scientists and engineers develop and improve prosthetics for those suffering from limb loss. I dream of working on these issues that affect so many in our society. I'm interested in improving my coding skills long-term, as it is becoming an essential skill in the current workforce. Becoming a professional woman of color in the STEM community would mean a lot to me and future generations of minorities. I'll use my career and education to inform and extend opportunities to those interested in science within minority communities. I've had to work full-time to support myself and pay for tuition to complete my degree as I come from a low-income family. Being awarded scholarships would provide immense financial relief. Having the extra money to pay for school would get me one step closer to earning my degree and push me forward to a better future for my family and me.
