Spreading Holiday Cheer Through Community Christmas Baskets One of the most meaningful events I have participated in is the annual Community Christmas Basket program in my town. Every year, volunteers come together to assemble and distribute baskets filled with food, warm clothing, and small gifts to families in need. This event is a powerful reminder of the generosity and kindness that define our community, and it has left a lasting impact on me. Growing up in a big family, I have always valued the importance of supporting one another, especially during the holiday season. The Christmas Basket program is a way for our town to do just that—lifting up families who may be struggling and ensuring that everyone can experience the joy of Christmas. The preparation starts weeks in advance, with food drives, fundraising efforts, and local businesses pitching in to donate essential supplies. Then, just before Christmas, volunteers gather to organize and distribute the baskets, making sure that each one is packed with care and thoughtfulness. One of my most memorable experiences with the Christmas Baskets was delivering them to families in person. Seeing the gratitude and relief on their faces made me realize how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. For some, a simple basket of food means they can enjoy a warm holiday meal with their loved ones. For others, a cozy blanket or a toy for their child brings a sense of comfort and joy. These moments remind me of the true spirit of Christmas—giving, selflessness, and community. This event has taught me that service is not just about helping others; it is about building connections and strengthening the bonds within our town. It has also shown me the impact that a united community can have when people come together with a shared purpose. However, there is always room to grow and improve. One positive change I would love to see is expanding the Christmas Basket program to provide support beyond the holiday season. While Christmas is a special time to give, many families struggle throughout the year. A year-round outreach program could help provide food, school supplies, and emergency assistance to those in need. Additionally, involving more young people in the event—through schools, clubs, and youth groups—could foster a stronger culture of service and teach the next generation the importance of giving back. Participating in the Christmas Basket program has reinforced my belief in the power of kindness and generosity. It has inspired me to look for ways to continue serving others, whether through my education, future career in graphic design, or creative projects that promote positive change. This event is more than just a holiday tradition—it is a reflection of what makes our community strong, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

From a young age, I have been captivated by the power of storytelling—how art, design, and narrative can transport people to new worlds, inspire emotions, and spark imagination. My passion for visual arts and design is rooted in the belief that stories have the power to connect people, convey deep truths, and leave a lasting impact. As I prepare to study graphic design at BYU-Idaho, my ultimate goal is to bring my creative visions to life through a lifelong project—a TV show, a comic book series, or another major artistic venture that weaves together my love for storytelling and design. With the rapid advancements in technology, from artificial intelligence to digital art tools, the landscape of visual arts has evolved dramatically. However, while these tools can assist in the creative process, they will never replace the heart and soul that an artist pours into their work. What drives me is not just the ability to create something visually stunning, but to infuse my work with meaning, emotion, and authenticity. The spirit of creation is more than just producing art—it is about crafting something that speaks to the human experience. In my future projects, I aim to blend traditional artistic values with modern technology to create something truly unique. Whether it is through a visually compelling comic book series or an animated show that tells a deeply personal and engaging story, I want my work to inspire others and make a difference. My designs will not just be about aesthetics but about storytelling—bringing characters to life, evoking emotions, and sparking conversations. As a student of the arts, I will continue to learn, experiment, and grow, using both traditional and digital mediums to push the boundaries of creativity. My "why" is simple: I want to tell stories that matter, create art that resonates, and build worlds that people can escape into. This passion is what will drive me through my education, my career, and every artistic endeavor I undertake.

The New York Times game Connections is one of my favorite daily challenges because it pushes me to think critically and recognize patterns. Inspired by this game, I created my own puzzle, tailoring the categories to reflect my personal interests and experiences. One of my favorite topics is Greek mythology, a subject I find fascinating for its rich characters and complex stories. Another category comes from my enjoyment of the game Clue, which I have played countless times and even brought to life by performing in a play inspired by the movie. My passion for French, a language I’ve been studying in high school, also influenced my puzzle. These categories allowed me to craft a game that feels both fun and meaningful to me while presenting a diverse set of connections for players to solve. My puzzle includes the categories: (Yellow Category) Rooms found in the game Clue: (Hall, Lounge, Study, Library) (Green Category) Methods to procure in advance: (Book, Charter, Reserve, Secure) (Blue Category) Figures from Greek myths: (Atlas, Pan, Echo, Helen) (Purple Category) French words: (Pain, Adieu, Belle, Temps) Designing this puzzle was a creative process that required careful thought and attention to detail, much like the Connections game itself. It was a rewarding way to blend strategy with my personal interests while challenging myself to create something both logical and engaging.

As a high school senior, I am at an exciting crossroads in my life, looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. One of my primary educational goals is to finish this year strong by achieving straight A’s. This is particularly important to me because it symbolizes not just academic achievement but also my determination to overcome obstacles from my past. In the past, I’ve struggled with managing my time and staying consistently motivated. However, I’ve learned to set clear goals, prioritize my responsibilities, and rely on my own resilience to push through challenges. After graduating high school, I plan to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho to pursue a degree in graphic design. This field excites me because it allows for the perfect combination of creativity and practicality. I’ve always enjoyed art and design, and studying graphic design will provide me with the technical skills and industry knowledge I need to turn my passion into a career. My ultimate goal is to create impactful and meaningful designs that communicate messages effectively, whether it’s for a company, a cause, or a personal project. In addition to my academic aspirations, I have set professional goals to grow as an individual. One area I am focusing on is improving my communication skills. By participating more in class discussions, I hope to become more confident in expressing my ideas and opinions. I also aim to be more open and friendly with those around me, building stronger relationships with classmates, professors, and future colleagues. These skills are essential not only in the field of graphic design but also in life, as collaboration and connection are key to success. Ultimately, my goals reflect my commitment to personal growth and making the most of the opportunities ahead. I am determined to work hard, overcome challenges, and develop the skills I need to succeed in my education and career.
