Good evening. My name is Morgan Dunnings. I'm currently a graduating senior at Sumter County High School. My birthday is on January 27, marking my transition into adulthood as I turn 18. My favorite color is light blue and I have three brothers. I have a diverse taste in music, enjoying genres such as gospel, rap, and pop. Some of my passions include baking, painting, reading, and photography. Over the years, my career aspirations have changed numerous times. I have gone from wanting to be a princess to an actress, a fashion designer, a photographer, and now, finally, a baker. However, as graduation approaches, I am often asked about my plans. The verdict is I will attend South Georgia Technical College to earn a degree in culinary arts. While in college, I plan to get an occupation in the culinary region to gain the experience to open my own personal restaurant and bakery one day. The vision plan for my establishment is for them to be separated, considering they will have two entirely different themes. Concerning my bakery, I prefer for it to have an all-in-one where there is something for everyone. It will include a coffee shop, an ice cream parlor, a library, and a playground. The point of it all is for it to be something for the whole family. My bakery will be the heart of the community because of the welcoming and comfortable environment it creates. My restaurant, however, will be established later in life, after my bakery business takes off. Our community has a blend of divergent ethnicities, and I plan to incorporate that into my restaurant. The goal is to have an experienced chef and sous chefs from every culture so that customers can savor the authentic flavors of their food heritage. My restaurant will incorporate American cuisine, Japanese cuisine, and many more. There is nothing like a chef cooking food who is familiar with the common customs of your food. To ensure that my chefs are authentic, I plan to reach out to other professionals who are looking to expand and commit to the goal I'm trying to accomplish. As far as my personalized future goals go, I want to have stable mental and physical health. Throughout my teen years, I battled with my mental health until I was introduced to therapy. I plan to maintain consistency in it no matter what life throws my way and use it to love my future kids in a way my parents couldn't reciprocate. In the African American community, expressing your feelings is unusual, and I want to change that narrative. The parenthood I want to practice will be an authoritative style where I can be a parent and still praise my child. Unlike other parents' approaches to keeping their children hidden from the world, I want to teach and guide my offspring to maneuver through life. In conclusion, I want to challenge the norms and traditions I was taught growing up and pave my path toward success and happiness.

My passion for cooking was sparked by my grandfather, who ran a successful at-home business selling plates of various cuisines. He even had an outdoor seating area where customers could enjoy their meals. For example, one day he would offer Jamaican food, and the next day he would prepare Mexican dishes. As I grew older, he shared his dream of opening a restaurant with me and gave me all the recipes. His passing only strengthened my determination to pursue a culinary education. I am determined to fulfill his dream of opening a restaurant and my own bakery. My ultimate goal is to create a sense of home for people through the flavors of my food. In terms of the layout of my establishments, I envision them being separate entities with distinct themes. My bakery will be an all-in-one destination, featuring a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, library, and playground. I aim to cater to the entire family. On the other hand, my restaurant will be established later in life, once my bakery business is well-established. Our community is a melting pot of diverse ethnicities, and my grandfather wanted to incorporate this diversity into our plan. Therefore, my restaurant will have an experienced chef and sous chefs from various cultures, allowing customers to savor the authentic flavors of their food heritage. I plan to offer a fusion of American and Japanese cuisine, among others. There is nothing quite like having a chef who is familiar with the customs and traditions of your food culture. As diversity increases within a community, there is a positive impact on social cohesion. To further improve social cohesion, I intend to use a portion of the funds raised from my establishments to give back to the community. My first initiative will be to provide guidance and knowledge to aspiring business owners through the publication of a book outlining simplified steps for starting a business. Additionally, I will hold daily raffles for in-person lessons to make it more accessible for those facing financial challenges. My final act of service to the community will involve the construction of a facility to assist individuals who are struggling. While there are many shelters available, they often do not offer long-term support and guidance. My goal is to not only provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing, but also to assist with reuniting families, finding employment, and securing permanent housing. In addition to financial support, many individuals in unstable situations also require assistance with medical issues and adjusting to their new circumstances. As such, the facility will have mental health counselors and nurses available for any mental or physical emergencies.

Food has a way of contributing to a person’s well-being. Many believe that the way to a person's heart is through their stomach. I contribute to my community by providing mouthwatering treats through my at-home business, Juicy Sweets. I take great joy in seeing the smiles on people's faces when they taste my baked goods. After college, I plan to obtain a degree in Culinary Arts and use it to open my own restaurant and bakery. My vision for these establishments is to have them as separate entities with unique themes. My bakery will be a one-stop destination, featuring a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, library, and playground, catering to the whole family.
