Inguz Memorial Scholarship
I am a small-town girl who has had a heart for animals ever since I was a child. From having pets in the house, to seeing the cattle on my grandparent's and great grandparent's farm, my love for animals continued to grow. While in high school, I volunteered at a local animal shelter. There I helped keep the kennels clean, fed the animals, and made sure the animals had plenty of exercise. I went as often as I could when I was not working or in school. With all the history of animals in my life and my continuing growing love for animals, I decided I wanted to pursue the path to becoming a veterinarian.
The path has not been easy and there were many times I doubted whether or not I was meant to become a veterinarian. However, I had a roommate who was the biggest encouragement of my life and reminded me when I was struggling that the path was not meant to be easy and there will always be classes or other things I have to push through, that I may not enjoy, to get to the end. She reminded me that if God had put on my heart to work with animals, then I should trust him and keep going because if it was meant to be easy, everyone would be a veterinarian and at the same time, the people who are in the field wouldn't enjoy it. So, with her reminders and my continual going back to God in prayer and thanks for getting me this far, I continued in my journey of finishing my undergrad.
As I learned more about animals in my undergrad, as well as watching documentaries about veterinarians, and reading James Harriet's books 'All Creatures Great and Small,' 'All Things Bright and Beautiful,' and 'All Things Wise and Wonderful,' I started to have more an idea of what I wanted to do as a veterinarian. I realized I had a growing passion for large animals as well as wildlife and decided that I would pursue small, large, and wildlife animals when in vet school. My passion grew more when I found there is a decreasing amount of large and wildlife vets in the United States while small animal vets are increasing rapidly. So my want has also become a need.
If, by the Lord's will, I get into vet school and make it through, I plan on eventually starting a clinic, not in the city, but in a rural area. The reason for this is so that I can be closer to the farmers and wildlife that will need care, instead of living in the city and making the farmers drive, some 4 hours, away so they can get their livestock checked out. I am hoping to benefit the veterinary medicine field by becoming more available to those who are being forgotten and left behind.
Lo Easton's “Wrong Answers Only” Scholarship
There are several reasons why I do not deserve this scholarship. For one I am a terrible student who doesn't turn in a single assignment or even go to class. I don't want to do college but my family and friends are making me anyway. I just want to work at Mcdonald's for the rest of my life and not achieve anything, except for the world's best couch potato. I never like it when I come across an obstacle because it is always in the way, so I typically avoid it or try to have other people take care of the obstacle for me, even if it is a chair in my way while I am walking around the classroom. I would rather just sit on my couch with my cat all day long and watch movies so I don't have to deal with anything ever again. Also, it would be nice to have a robot to bring me food when I am hungry. So, I don't know why I am even writing this essay. I don't even like essays. Well. I suppose I can finish it here.
