NomineeBio
Hi, my name is Monica, I'm currently a Nursing Assistant at Mercy Hospital. I've been working in the health field for about 3 years and I absolutely love it. It has made me more curious about continuing my education. I’m currently in a course to be an interpreter. My goal is to become a nurse and travel the world and help those that live in poverty. I would love to help those in need.
A little bit about me:
I am self-driven and motivated to become a better version of myself. I was raised with a mother who played both parental roles. I’ve learned over the years how kindness can affect someone’s view of the world. Knowing someone believed and cared for you is what I want others to experience. We live in a world where people need to be shown compassion and trust. I could help others. I consider myself to be very enthusiastic, determined, and caring. I'm all about self-improvement and growth, always welcoming challenges and learning opportunities. I always strive to be a better version of myself in every aspect and this is evident in everything I do. I chose Nursing for a variety of reasons but one of the main ones is that I believe the profession coincides with my personality, putting my best characteristics to good use. I'm very compassionate and nurturing and have always wanted to devote myself to serving the public.
In five years, I see myself as a proficient Peds/ICU nurse. I am interested in becoming an Advanced Practice nurse.

My dad suffered a heart attack when I was 22 years old. I had no clue what to do at that moment. Whenever I visited my dad at the hospital, I loved the teamwork with everyone who took part in my dad's care. I was curious about all the medication, procedures, and interventions he was doing because I wasn't educated on how the healthcare system worked. I then became a nurse assistant and have loved it since then. I am learning more about how each patient has a different story about getting to the hospital. As I worked in the hospital, I was able to care for patients, help them with their hygiene, assist with their daily activities, and, most importantly, communicate with them in a way they felt like a human.
After the COVID surge, I became more curious about actually pursuing my nursing degree because of all the benefits you have as a nurse. For example, during my clinical in fundamentals, I was able to follow a hospice nurse. I loved how they maintained the patient's dignity and compassion for one another.
I started working when I was 15, and my first job was at Sonic. I've always been a hard worker because my parents were divorced, and I helped my mom out because she was a single mother with four children. I know what I made wasn't much, but it made a difference since I split my money with my siblings.
One of the most important traits I have is being knowledgeable. Meaning I love learning about the medical field, whether there's an article about how there are new types of treatments for disease. As a nursing assistant and student, I get curious about the content I run across. I am constantly asking questions to understand the material. Over the past few years, I have leveled up my communication skills, especially in my community. I recently obtained a bilingual interpreter certificate. It's scrucial in my areabecause most Hispanics will not have someone to interpret what the doctor says. I completed training as a patient care tech at the hospital where I work. I am constantly curious about improving myself to be more efficient and effective.
I want to become a nurse because I want to help people. I want to use the skills and knowledge I have acquired throughout my collegiate education to gain my master's in nursing. My nursing concept involves providing compassionate, evidence-based care and preventive care services. Nurses work closely with patients, families, and communities to accomplish healthcare goals. Nursing will also enable me to form clinician-patient relationships, allowing me to provide optimal care that reflects their needs and values. Nurses include an open communication channel to care for their patients effectively. Another attractive aspect of nursing involves participating in an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care.
Nursing requires a dedication to life-long learning and staying up to date with research which has been one of my areas of interest.
Since I was a kid, my dream has been to become a nurse. I knew being a nurse would be a challenging profession and process. I love working as a nurse assistant at the hospital. I have watched many of my patients suffer death and watch some become healthier. Through the years, I never imagined myself being involved in people's lives as I am today.

In 2020 I lost my job as a server due to COVID. I had no, clue what to do when I could not return to work. At that moment, I saw it as a wake-up call. I started to look up certifications, and I chose to go back to school as a certified nurse assistant.
While I was in my clinical serving patients came so easily. I prioritized patients needs and I loved talking to them more than nothing. I came across May hardships since I was working when the COVID surge grew in the hospital. I was able to be there for patients last moments and I was able to wheelchair patients down back to their families. In that moment I knew I wanted to be a nurse. I look forward each day to work because I know it's my dream . Even though it has its tough days ,I look back at all the lives I have touched that I got make a difference. I feel like it was an awakening for me because I've always loved working around people. Becoming a nurse means more than just helping, though. It means being compassionate when things are complicated with the patient and learning to understand people in a way they could feel comfortable around you. a nurse assistant at the hospital. I have watched many of my patients suffer death and watch some become healthier. Through the years, I never imagined myself being involved in people's lives as I am today. It makes me more interested in the nursing field than ever. Showing everyone the same kind of compassion goes to show how grateful I am each day to help everyone out.
I want to work in pediatrics because I met many kind nurses as a child, I remember a specific incident I was raped. The nurse knew something was on my mind. She showed me patience and compassion. What meant most to me was when she hugged me and let me cry in her arms. Even though it was hard to tell her my problem, she was there the whole time, making me feel comfortable. As a peds nurse, I was to improve children's lives. I know our society has shown the greater good or the bad in this world, but I want to be there like how the nurse was to me. sometimes kids want to be heard, and all it takes is patience. I genuinely want to be able to change kids' lives by helping them out. My mom was never loving or a good listener, and I hope to hear any concerns kids have.

I started before COVID and I am still currently working through it. It has been hard, to say the least, but I love helping those in need day to day because I want to. I suffer anxiety every day that I go to work and by the end of the day is gone because I helped so many people with their care.
Financial stability is increasingly less likely as students go into college. Any sort of dent I can make in my tuition would be so extremely helpful. I love my job as a CNA but I am pursuing nursing.
Strong academic standings and good work ethic. I can only speak from my experiences however and that's what I can bring forth want the absolute best for myself. I want to seek out the best education, and the best contacts. I think I deserve this scholarship because I want to take my education further. I'm passionate. I WANT to take those 8 a.m. classes. In high-stress situations, I always take a step back, take a few deep breaths, and identify the cause of the stress. Depending on the source, I approach it differently. If am overwhelmed by the number of things I need to do, I organize and prioritize what I need to do and complete the tasks as efficiently as possible without compromising quality. My name is Monica. I am from Chicago, Illinois. Many have told me I wasn't going to make it to school because of my race. I suffer through racism constantly but that doesn't stop me from dreaming. I've dreamed of being a nurse and I am going to do it.
Being Hispanic has taught me a whole world of things. It has taught me that the world is not what you expect it to be. Going to a public school and being the minority is completely different than going to see my cousins where everything is different. The way we talk, the food we eat. It's all different. To me, being Hispanic is probably the biggest blessing I could ever get. I love being Hispanic. Being able to know that my culture is completely different than those at school. It has brought so much knowledge that telling other people about makes them want to be Hispanic. Although the majority of it is a happy experience, I have had my share of negative experiences. From racism or being mistreated for being the minority.
My family and our culture have greatly shaped the person I grew up to be. Being Hispanic means that family is definitely the most important factor in your life. I love my family more than anyone could imagine and being far away from my parents and my little brother is something I just don’t want to happen yet, which is why I am going to attend NWACC, which is in Arkansas and close to my family. Being Hispanic also means that you spend almost all your time with your family and that in almost all your free time, you’re either spending time with your parents and your siblings or you are going to a party to go see even more of your family. Family is very important to me and is because of my Hispanic culture. My Hispanic culture is the reason why I can be loud and sociable when I’m around my friends and is the reason why I am always passionate and energetic in everything that I do my culture is the reason I am who I am.
They say that you can tell if you are Hispanic or not, because of how you look. Many of us are dark-skinned, with dark hair; tanned with curly hair, or straight long hair. But most of all how we talk, most of our words are chopped with an accent. It is not our fault that English is not our first language and that it is hard to learn
It should not matter where you are from; a person is made out of the love friends and family give. That should be enough to be accepted by other people.

My dad suffered a heart attack when I was 17 years old. I had no clue what to do at that moment. Whenever I visited my dad at the hospital, I loved the teamwork with which everyone took part in my dad's care. I was curious about all the medication, procedures, and interventions he was doing because I wasn’t educated on how the healthcare system worked. I then became a nurse assistant and have been loving it, since then. I am learning more about how each patient has a different story of how they got to the hospital. As I worked at the hospital, I was able to care for patients, help them with their personal hygiene, assist with their daily activities, and most importantly communicated with them in a way they felt like a human.
After the COVID surge, I became more curious about actually pursuing my nursing degree because of all the benefits you have as a nurse. For example, during my clinical in fundamentals, I was able to follow a hospice nurse. I loved the way they maintained the patient's dignity and compassion for one another.
I started working when I was 15 and my first job was at Sonic. I’ve always been a hard worker because my parents were divorced and I helped my mom out because she was a single mother with 4 children. I know what I made wasn’t much, but I know it made a difference since I split my money with my siblings.
One of the most important traits I have is being knowledgeable. Meaning I love learning about the medical field whether there’s an article about how there are new types of treatments for disease. As a nursing assistant and nursing student I get very curious about the content I run across. I am constantly asking questions in order to understand the material. Over the past couple of years, I have leveled up my communication skills, especially in my community. I recently obtained a bilingual interpreter certificate. It’s so crucial in the area I live in because most Hispanics will not have someone to interpret what the doctor says. At the hospital I work, I was able to complete training as a patient care tech. I am constantly curious about how I can improve myself to be more efficient and effective. I want to become a nurse because I believe I have a calling to help people. I
want to use the skills and knowledge I have acquired throughout my collegiate
education to gain my master's in nursing. My concept of nursing involves providing compassionate, evidence-based care, and preventive care services. Nurses work closely with patients, families, and communities in order to accomplish healthcare goals. Nursing will also enable me to form clinician-patient relationships, allowing me to provide optimal care that reflects their needs and values. I believe nurses form an open channel of communication to effectively care for their patients. Another attractive aspect of nursing is that it involves participating in an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care. Nursing requires a dedication to life-long learning and staying up to date with research which has been one of my areas of interest.
My short-term plans include finishing up my finals for fundamentals in the summer 2022 semester and finishing up my summer 2023 semester to graduate with an associate. I plan on working in the hospital and continuing my education for a BSN degree as a nurse.

Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
I have helped: kids, teenagers, adults with mental health . I believe there is no age limit on whether a person has a problem and wants someone to listen to or needs a simple hug .
I currently work at a hospital and I see nurses all the time struggling with stress and they need help .I’m the type of person who loves to listen and get their mind in the right direction with positive words . remember one of the nurses patients was vomiting blood and all I could see is fear in the nurses eyes because the patient was dying . In that instant I gave her a hug because she was having so many emotions.
It’s so curtail that we are being kind to others . We don’t know what they are going through nor feeling what and how they feel.Whenever I see a doctor , patient , any other person I see ,I’m always greeting and asking how they are doing .Being kind to one another is free and it doesn’t take much to do that with people .I’ve met plenty of people being rude , but there’s always a reason why they are acting that way . We have to learn to pay attention to them and hear them out because sometimes no one asks them about what’s wrong.
I do believe being kind to one another can and will make make this world a better place . It’s just up to everyone if they can do it . A lot plays into mental health and it’s become so common now that we should be aware of what we say or do . In general we need to be cautious and aware everyone has feelings and we need to be considerate forwards one another .
