Small town proud. That is just one way to describe me. Growing up in a small community has truly shaped me into the person I am today. Many people take for granted the things a small community has to offer. Until these past few years, I have too. Taking a step back and seeing the opportunities and experiences it has offered me truly shaped my decision to choose a career path where I can come back and give back to my community in the ways it has for me. After high school, I plan to attend Cheeks Beauty Academy in Cheyenne, Wyoming. While residing there I will be studying cosmetology to become a licensed cosmetologist. Once licensed I plan to return to Hay Springs, Nebraska.
If you have ever driven through Hay Springs you might have noticed the thriving community-supported grocery store, the coffee shop on the corner, or even our little gold mine. Well actually it’s not a gold mine but it is a little convenient shop where you can fill up your vehicle with gas or grab a delicious meal and is owned by two great members of my community. They also have five employees from Hay Springs as well. But don’t blink as you're driving on Highway 20 or will you miss Hay Springs? This all might sound like little things but they are the backbone of Hay Springs that keeps the community thriving. I want to be the next little thing that makes an impact on my rural community.
You might be wondering how a cosmetologist can do that. I want to be able to provide my services to members of my community. From a farmer who has been going from field to field checking pivots and drips who snuck away for 20 minutes and needs a haircut before he’s onto the next field. A rancher is moving cows weekly because the grass is so dry and only has a sliver of time while the cows wait outside in the trailer. A local convenience necessity where it’s provided downtown and not an hour down the road at a huge company that has 100 employees. My business will also keep money local which is so important for small businesses like the one I hope to own myself. But there is more to the picture than just providing the community with my cosmetology services. I can also make an impact by getting off of work at 5 and going down to the ball field in the summer and volunteering to coach a TBall team. As a teen myself I have gone to businesses in the community asking for a donation for prom or a school-related activity. I want to be the business that keeps my community thriving.
I am extremely passionate about using my skills and talents to return to a community that taught me everything I know. This community means a lot to me so it gives me every more reason to give back. Moving to a big city also wouldn’t provide me with others who look out for me, care, and want to see me succeed. That's why I hope to make an impact on my small community.

I want to purse the trade of being a cosmetologist. This all started with looking up to my aunt. With my little eyes I observed big changes she made through helping people by creating their visions for their hair to real life reality. As I got older I was fortunate to help around the salon by sweeping, folding towels, and just having conversations with many people I knew. My aunt's salon was one of the first big impacts on my brain that really made me feel like I could do something in this career field. As I stated earlier, living in a small town I was able to participate in extracurricular activities. Through these activities whether it was on the bus ride in the locker room or even the classroom before practice I was always the one asked to either braid or do some sort of style to pretty much everyone on my team. This also really helped me become more passionate about what I could create and challenge myself to complete. Now that I am in the stage of my life where I’m having to make a big decision all of these things have combined to impact my decision on realizing cosmetology can forever be my passion.
Some of my goals for my future are being able to help people become
more comfortable and more confident with things I can help them aspire through their hair. Another goal I have will be pushing myself as a cosmetologist to show passion through my work. Showing my clients I’m dedicated and reliable to helping them with anything they need. One of my own long-term goals would be owning my own salon and specializing in blondes. I appreciate The time you took to read this and I hope I will hear back from you!
