Ever since I could hold a crayon, I have been drawing. Ever since I got on a horse in Kentucky for my birthday, I’ve been riding. And I’ve always had a passion for animals.
Now, as a high school junior with a 4.0 GPA, taking challenging courses, I’m faced with a difficult decision between my two passions. I’m unsure whether I want to pursue a career in art or veterinary medicine. No matter which path I choose, I know I can make a difference—whether by inspiring people through the strokes of a paintbrush or healing animals in need.
My artwork has been featured in the Northwestern High School Art Show, which was an incredible honor. My art is very focused around nature, wildlife, and animals. When I’m not sketching or painting, I love being outdoors—biking, hiking, rollerblading, and camping. Other interests of mine include hanging out with family and friends, reading, writing, puzzles, and watching football. But my favorite place to be is at the stable. I have been taking riding lessons for eight years, and even before that, I would visit the horses and attend day camps. I am currently a hunter-jumper and aspire to compete on a college IHSA equestrian team someday.
I have also volunteered at my stable, which is part of a nonprofit organization dedicated to retraining retired racehorses. That experience deepened my drive for animal welfare. One day, no matter which career I choose, I hope to be able to rescue and rehabilitate animals, giving them the second chance they deserve.
