Dr. William Evans Lycoming College Scholarship
My choice to attend Lycoming College was likely the easiest choice I will ever make. From the moment I first stepped on campus, my breath was taken away by its beauty. When I describe Lycoming College to other people, I say the campus looks like it is straight out of a Hallmark Movie. All the buildings centered around a quad is simply picturesque and beautiful. In addition to feeling breathless from the campus’ beauty, I was overwhelmed by the kindness I experienced from everyone I met. On my first visit to Lycoming, the tour guides were so helpful in answering my questions and we were even stopped by a professor who took time out of his day to talk to me and ask me about what I wanted to study, as well as telling me the classes he teaches. I felt like he truly wanted to get to know me for the person I am and not just looking at me as someone he came across who happens to be on the same campus as he is. This brings me to the reason I chose a smaller, liberal arts college. I wanted to be somewhere that my professors would want to get to know me for who I am because having those relationships is the best way to receive a better education. Having personal relationships like that is something that is very important to me. While at Lycoming College I am planning on studying both psychology and sociology with the intention of concentrating on sports psychology after graduation. I picked this path because mental health and wellness is something that has impacted both my life and the lives of my loved ones in many ways. As an athlete myself, who is continuing their sport collegiately, my dream is to become a sports psychologist so I can help other athletes be their best and overcome the challenges that come with being an athlete and playing a sport. I hope I can one day change the lives of people around me for the better and have a positive impact on the world. The world we live in can be very negative at times and I hope that I can make it even just a little bit better for people, especially those who are struggling. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay, I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.
