Bio

I am a persevering software engineer. I want to make a difference in the world by helping other students who face struggles similar to mine. I was detained by ice during the Muslim ban only because I wanted to renew my student visa. https://abc13.com/man-detained-by-ice-pakistani/3733355/ I am going through financial difficulties but it will not stop me from pursuing my education and supporting my immigrant parents. Your help will not only be appreciated but I will pray for you and your loved ones. Thank you.

My name is Mohammad Sarfaraz Hussain. I am a Pakistani citizen, born and raised in the tiny middle eastern island called Bahrain. I am at the age of 26 years young and an aspiring software engineer. I am US asylee and a student who dreams of being the CEO of his company. I have a deep passion for computers and technology, and I would say that I love problem solving and critical thinking to solve challenging problems. I believe scholarships like these will help our generation move forward and make a difference. Growing up in Bahrain I always marveled America. I told myself that I wanted to visit this country one day and I would be truly blessed if I would get to experience its opportunities and the rich concrete jungles it fashions in its movies. As curiosity was growing with time, so did my dedication to come to the land of the free. In 2012, I applied and successfully got my American visit visa. I rejoiced and marked it one of my milestones of success. If I get awarded with this scholarship, this will truly be my biggest milestone. Now that I was here, I wanted to make use of every opportunity I would get. So, I sought admission to a college a few years later. I got admitted and almost graduated. But due to increasing financial burdens I had to pause my bachelor’s degree due to financial obstacles. In the summer of 2018, I had to renew my student visa. This was during the Muslim Ban under the Trump administration. This created a peril environment for even legal Muslim travelers of America (which I later found out). I left for Mexico for a 3-day visit (as advised by my immigration lawyer and school admissions so it could expedite my student visa renewal process). I had a great time in the beautiful country of Mexico. When I came back to the USA after that short vacation, while I was checking in my valid documents, I was stopped by the CBP (Customs and Border Protection Officer) and taken in a metal room for interrogation. Long story short; I was detained in a detention center for 30 days because ICE had falsely alleged me of misusing my student visa. They wanted to deport me then and there in that metal room. But thankfully I pleaded asylum. This is because I have no other place than the USA to go to (All of my family is here). The CPB office tried his level best to mentally break me down and admit to deportation, but I persisted. If you google “Faraz al hussain Immigrant ICE Houston” you can see the details, there. I think scholarships like these is what makes people like us have a better life. If I could afford a bachelor’s degree, I would have already graduated. This scholarship will make all the hardships I had turn into gold. It will be the best opportunity I would get in quite a while. If I get the scholarship, I will do everything to make sure it doesn’t go in vain. I want to create and lead a startup and work on projects that help the community at large. further on, I want to develop and create software solutions from digital microloans to applications that make everyday life more efficient. I have so many ideas in mind that I am just waiting to materialize, and this scholarship will give me the platform to do so. And no matter where I am in the world, I will make it happen.
