Faith has always been a central part of my life. I was raised in a Christian family, and from a young age my parents taught me the importance of having a strong relationship with God. They believed that faith should guide the way we live our lives, and they encouraged us to take our faith seriously. Because of this, my faith in Jesus has become the foundation of my values, decisions, and hopes for the future.
My faith gives me a sense of purpose and hope. As a Christian, I believe that through my faith in Jesus I have eternal life. That belief reminds me that life is bigger than the challenges we face every day. Many things in life change, and different seasons come and go, but my faith reminds me that God does not change. This gives me comfort and strength, especially during difficult times. Knowing that I am a child of God gives me hope and helps me stay focused on what truly matters in life.
My faith has also influenced my academic and future goals. I believe that everyone is given different gifts, and I believe that one of my gifts is teaching others. Because of this, I hope to pursue a degree in education and become a teacher. I feel that teaching is not just a career for me, but also a way to serve others and fulfill the purpose God has placed in my heart. As a teacher, I want to help students learn, grow, and believe in themselves. I also hope that the way I treat others, the patience I show, and the encouragement I give will reflect my faith in my daily life. Through my work and the relationships I build with students and colleagues, I hope to honor God and make a positive impact on the lives of others.
In addition to my faith, my family has played an important role in motivating me to pursue higher education. My mother is one of my greatest role models. She worked hard to complete her education and earned her master’s degree. Watching her dedication and commitment has inspired me to take my own education seriously. Whenever I feel tired or unmotivated, she encourages me to keep going and reminds me of the opportunities that education can provide.
My older sister has also been a strong influence in my life. She attended medical school and worked extremely hard to reach her goals. Seeing the effort and determination it took for her to succeed showed me that pursuing higher education requires perseverance and dedication. Her success reminds me that with hard work, faith, and determination, it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve meaningful goals.
Because of my faith and the example set by my family, I am motivated to continue my education and pursue my goals. I hope to use my education not only to build a career but also to serve others and make a positive difference in my community. With faith guiding me and the support of my family, I am confident that I can continue growing and working toward the purpose God has placed in my life.
Abigail O. Adewunmi Memorial Scholarship
My goal is to major in education and become a teacher who makes a positive difference in students’ lives. Education has always been important to me because teachers can influence how students see themselves and their future. I want to help students learn, grow, and feel supported in school.
While I am in college, I plan to focus on learning the skills I need to become a good teacher. I hope to gain hands-on experience so I can understand what it is like to work in a classroom. I would like to participate in opportunities that allow me to observe teachers and work with students so that I can learn from real experiences. By working hard in my classes and practicing what I learn, I want to prepare myself to be successful in my future career. My goal is to graduate feeling confident and ready to guide and support my students.
After graduation, I hope to become a teacher and create a positive environment for my students. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel comfortable, respected, and motivated to learn. I hope to not only teach academic subjects but also share what I have learned from my own experiences. I want to support my students as they grow and encourage them to believe in their abilities. Even small encouragement from a teacher can make a big difference in a student’s confidence and future.
Community service has also been an important part of my life. I volunteer at a monthly food distribution event at Helen Keller Junior High, where I help families carry and organize their groceries as they receive food. Being able to assist families in my community is a meaningful experience because it allows me to support people who may need extra help. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children and at the WINGS Resale Store. In addition, I helped welcome incoming freshmen at my school, where I supported new students and helped them feel comfortable as they started high school. These experiences have helped me understand the importance of kindness, patience, and supporting others.
In the future, I plan to continue serving others during college and beyond. I hope to stay involved in community service opportunities such as food distribution events and other volunteer programs. As a teacher, I also want to support my students both inside and outside the classroom. Through my education and service, I hope to continue helping others and making a positive impact in my community.
Education Empowerment Scholarship
1. I learned English after coming to the U.S almost 4 years ago (freshman year of high school).
2 (a). Obstacle I had in my educational journey was that it was hard for me to communicate well with my peers and teachers at school. Because I wasn’t really good in English, I was often scared to speak, ask or engage in my school.
2 (b). I overcame this obstacle by getting out of my comfort zone and putting myself in places that force me to communicate with others. I did this so that I will become better in English.
3. My educational role model is my mom. My mom was serious about school and she always wanted my siblings and I to be serious about school as well. After doing her bachelor’s degree in nursing, she did her masters in business so that she can help my dad with his business. This teaches me different things; she focused on a different subject in order to help my dad which shows her kindness and love. Her action also teaches me that it’s okay if the future ends up being something I didn’t plan on doing.
4 (a). I’m planning to go to either a community college or a four-year college. I would like to go to a four-year college because I believe it will help me become even more successful in my studies. What is keeping me from moving forward with a four-year college is the financial aspect.
4 (b). After completing the formal educational journey, I hope to become a teacher who makes a difference in my students’ lives. I would love to give back what I learned and help them grow.
5. I give back to others in my community be serving in my church. I also volunteer at a monthly food distribution event at Helen Keller junior high where I help families carry and organize their groceries as they receive food. I also volunteer at feed my starving children which is a great way to help the community.
