I am a nursing student from the Dominican Republic whose identity has been shaped by resilience, responsibility, and a strong sense of community. Growing up in a culture where family support and collective care are deeply valued taught me early on the importance of leadership through action—showing up, helping others, and remaining dependable during difficult moments. As an immigrant pursuing higher education, I have learned how to navigate unfamiliar systems while maintaining my cultural identity and values. These experiences have shaped my confidence, sense of responsibility, and commitment to serving as a positive example for others with similar backgrounds. Learning Across Cultures Studying in an educational environment different from where I grew up has strengthened my adaptability and cultural awareness. Transitioning from the Dominican Republic to a new academic system required persistence, self-advocacy, and openness to learning beyond the classroom.
