When I was six years old, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I enthusiastically replied that I wanted to be a baker who would feed all the homeless people. I have always found joy in helping others, and I am committed to continuing to do so as I further my education and begin my career. This scholarship will enable me to attend my dream university and engage with various organizations in my college community that focus on assisting others. My primary career goal is to become a marketing analyst specializing in supporting smaller businesses and to establish a non-profit dedicated to making higher education and essential resources accessible to low-income families and students. As a first-generation student, I had to often look for information regarding my future on my own. I didn’t have access to all the latest information, and I ultimately felt stuck and confined in four walls filled with despair, failure, and shame. My upbringing has influenced my career path heavily. In my early teens, I decided that I wanted to be able to provide for low-income families and underrepresented businesses, This scholarship will help alleviate some of my financial struggle which allows me to focus on my volunteer work. While volunteering I will connect with many families in need and provide them with assistance outside of just providing food, for instance, securing job applications, advocating for workplace opportunities, and dangerous and unethical living situations. I will also be able to collaborate with different marketing departments, schools, and communities. Receiving this scholarship will bring me closer to the future I have always envisioned. By participating in these volunteer programs, I will learn various procedures and strategies within the marketing community, as I work toward becoming a marketing analyst and starting my non-profit. This scholarship will push me even harder to strive day in and day out to flourish in my career. I will be able to aid students as they further their education and assist families as they access safe livable housing and other necessities. Through continuous hard work, research, and networking I will be able to expand my non-profit and marketing analyst career. I will be able to reach more people in need of my services and overall make a bigger impact within our community. As I succeed in my career, the success within my profession will contribute to the success of many families, businesses, and students.

As my eyes scanned the long paragraph my mother sent my heart tightened in sadness as I realized she nor my stepfather or little sister would visit me for my birthday. I sat in the dining hall crying wondering why it seemed like family drama continuously followed me while I tried to run away from it. I continued to sulk for days until my actual birthday. I hurriedly got ready for our family weekend football game. At the game, my friend and I sat in the stands watching everyone enjoy the company of their loved ones. While I called my stepdad and continuously asked and begged for them to see me for my birthday he gave dry, short responses and I eventually hung up leaving the game shortly after. While walking inside my building, I was met by my Residence Assistants and a few friends. The topic of today being my birthday came up and my RA's made the lobby sing Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder I was honestly a little nervous at that moment but was truly gleeful and touched. I hadn’t known my RA’s for too long but that act of kindness made my birthday so special and made me feel loved. This memory is so important to me because it continuously reminds me to spread love and be genuinely kind to people. This memory has made me more determined than ever to continue spreading love and kindness on and off campus as I pursue my future.

SCFU Scholarship for HBCU Business Students
When I was six years old, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I enthusiastically replied that I wanted to be a baker who would feed all the homeless people. I have always found joy in helping others, and I am committed to continuing to do so as I further my education and begin my career. I believe that our environment contributes to our lack of opportunities. By providing local underrepresented businesses with the resources, and support needed to improve their company we can build a sustainable sequence that continuously supports the community. My career goals are to become a marketing analyst specializing in helping smaller businesses and to establish a non-profit dedicated to empowering low-income families by offering career resources, job training, and job placement opportunities. My nonprofit will also make higher education and essential resources accessible to low-income families and students. As a first-generation student, I often looked for information regarding my future on my own. The support and guidance I expected to receive during this time were rarely offered to me. I didn’t have access to all the latest information, and I ultimately felt stuck and confined in four walls filled with despair, failure, and shame. My upbringing has influenced my career path heavily. In my early teens, I decided that I wanted to be able to assist many low-income families and underrepresented businesses.
While extending my services to others I will connect with many families in need and provide them with assistance outside of just providing food, for instance, securing job applications, advocating for workplace opportunities, and dangerous and unethical living situations. By working to assist small businesses I can help these businesses flourish which will create jobs in the community which will in turn enhance these underrepresented communities. I will be able to aid students as they further their education and assist families as they access safe livable housing and other necessities. Through continuous hard work, research, and networking I will be able to expand my non-profit and marketing analyst career. My career will play a pivotal role in improving social and economic equality specifically in underrepresented communities like my own. I will be able to reach more individuals who need my services and make a bigger impact within our community. As I succeed in my career, the success within my profession will contribute to the success of many families, businesses, and students.

As I sat on the couch with my face buried in the computer typing away at another job application my mother profusely thanked me for helping her. At that moment I felt a powerful desire to help people grow within me. “I'm so glad to have such a smart girl like you as my daughter I don’t know what I would do without you.” As my mom said those words, I could only counteract her statements in my mind I thought to myself it’s just basic computer skills. Helping her wasn’t difficult, was it? I mean it only took up a short amount of time to help her. I went to bed thinking about it that night, what made me so special? As I sat and pondered, I couldn’t think of anything that made me special or unique.
The following morning, I was back at it again but this time I was with my step-dad, typing away on the computer. I made sure to take my time answering his questions and helping him as we went over another one of his college papers. I was determined to make this process go as smoothly as I could while also helping him expand his knowledge and not leaving him to fend for himself with all of this modern technology. I felt the need to keep going after he began getting tired and agitated with our computer. I spent day in and day out over the summer helping my step-dad pass his courses so he can pursue his career as a driving instructor. Often times I grew tired of staying up late correcting his projects and essays but this insatiable desire to help him achieve his goal kept me awake and focused. The end of my dad’s college classes came, and he was awarded with his instructional license I was beyond ecstatic as I congratulated him, he ignored my praises and thanked me for the countless nights I spent with him going over the curriculum and preparing him for the tests and exams and his words made me succumb to my epiphany. I spent all this time wondering what made me unique. I often felt as though I were a plain Jane, and I truly didn’t know who I was. I continuously doubted myself and downplayed my ability to help others. I didn’t see helping people as a huge achievement because I always thought I didn’t do enough, and I continuously strived for more. By taking the time to acknowledge the impact my assistance had on my community I came to terms with the fact that I had been able to help the people I love. This made me realize that having a clean heart and a desire to help people makes me more than enough in today’s society. By helping the people around, me I have been able to watch them flourish, and I realized I want to fulfill other people’s lives around me as I further my education and career path
