I take a great deal of pride in my educational career, as I’m privileged enough to understand the true value of the resources granted to me through my school’s well funded curriculum. I devoted myself to my studies in math, and acquired college credits through Southern Oregon University. Though I thrived in other subjects, there was always something extra special about math to me. I decided early on I’d like to get into computer science after graduating. The intricacies of the subject have always interested me, and the foundations of college level math courses I’ve built will ensure my success in this field. I have been accepted to University of Oregon, where I will be majoring in computer science this fall. Growing up below the poverty line as a woman of color has given me a strong drive to diversify the tech field. My ambition is sure to contribute to the breakdown of barriers that discourage young women from careers in computer science. I plan on joining UO’s Women in Stem Club in order to integrate into a community of those who inspire me. I have always taken a great interest in internet privacy and the lack there of. Tech has ingrained itself in the growth of humanity, and I feel it’s my duty to contribute something important to our future. With my degree, I plan to revolutionize the future of data security and privacy via virtual private networks, encrypted web browsers, and password protection.
