Hi, my name is Mila Burton, and I'm an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. I'm especially interested in water systems and how they interact with our built environment. At UC Berkeley, I have developed skills in analyzing water systems and using various software. I’ve used programs such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, Python, and GIS to analyze water sources. More specifically, I work with UC Berkeley's urban watershed! As one of the project leads for UC Berkeley’s watershed monitoring initiative, the Strawberry Creek Monitoring Group, I’ve worked with real-time data to analyze watershed health. Through this project, I've gained a better understanding of pollutant sources and mitigation solutions in urban areas. I'm also extremely passionate about water reuse and integrating the "One Water" philosophy into our water systems! As one of the Project Managers for UC Berkeley’s Wastewater Treatment Competition Team, I’ve become familiar with the chemical and physical processes governing water reuse. I’m also an active educator and have developed and taught lessons on watershed hydrology to a wide range of students around the Bay Area. Outside of school, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, camping, and riding my bicycle. I love nature and capturing what I see through photography and filmmaking. I’m aiming to pursue a career strengthening water resources while also preserving the beauty of the natural world around me.
