Hello! My name is Mikyma. I am a newly admitted freshman at California State University Long Beach with the ambition to become an inspiring therapist!
I intend to major in Psychology and what interests me the most about this major is that it is used to grasp a better understanding of people and provide insight. This insight can be used in promoting physical and mental health. It aids in improving the quality of life which is very useful especially during these times. Growing up as a minority, I have noticed how many children suffer from mental illnesses.
I know from past experience how hard it is to open up to others about the thoughts that your brain acquires, especially when those who you are opening up to look nothing like you. When I reached out about my declining mental health, I found myself so uncombable due to the lack of diversity in the office. I want to become a clinical therapist because we live in a world where representation matters, and I want to be that person to console children just like me and let them know not to be afraid to open up.
I intend to help children cope with these obstacles that life may bring. I have experienced an incredible transformation due to psychology and I want to help aid others in their transformation towards becoming more loving and compassionate people. From first-hand experience, when you accept yourself for who you are, you become more loving and compassionate towards others. Being able to experience this kind of growth for myself has inspired me to pursue a career in psychology.

Education is seen by many as the substructure of our society. It is that one thing that provides society with the basis for its continuous development and proper political participation. In order for there to be advancements in society and individuals, there has to be a source of proper and fair education. Inequity is a growing concern in education, particularly for minorities and people of low income.
People of color and those who experience poverty are often left abandoned when it comes to receiving a proper education. They are often faced with barriers and do not have access to certain resources needed. They are forced to rely on themselves which tends to fail them which is one of the sources of major social issues.
Educational inequity is something we all should stand for because not only is it the right thing to do, it has a positive impact on our world and the following generations. It aids in removing discrimination and protects basic human rights for all. Making education accessible to all, gets rid of the divide between all races. We will see each other as equals and not as enemies. People will not be seen as interior to one another. Equal education will reinforce our inalienable rights, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". An equitable education system assists people to become productive members of society. Overall, it'll have a significant impact on the power and prosperity of society.

Growing up my mother had two jobs. She worked all day and all night to provide for my siblings and I all alone. I believe growing up and watching my mother struggle to feed us has now inspired me to help others. When I was younger, my mom struggled to provide certain things so I know what it feels to go without which was the beginning of my declining mental health. I know how important it was when people offered a helping hand or even kind words to me so I would like to do the same to others. When people realize that helping others is not only good for them and a good thing to do, it also makes us happier and healthier as well. Giving gives us the ability to connect with others, create stronger communities, and help to build a happier society for everyone.
Giving Back to the Future Scholarship
A problem that I would like to solve is the number of people in need. I want to help as many people in need as I can in my lifetime. Giving back to those who are in need is super important to me because I know what it feels like to not have certain things therefore I always try my best to help others. I believe growing up in a tough neighborhood has now inspired me to help others. When I was younger, my parents struggled to provide certain things so I know what it feels to go without. I know how important it was when people offered a helping hand to my family so I would like to do the same to others. I hope by doing so creates a domino effect so the gift of giving is passed on through the generations. I hope to inspire many people to help as many people as they can. The steps that can be taken to identify a solution are by encouraging people to help out in any way possible. When people realize that helping others is not only good for them and a good thing to do, it also makes us happier and healthier as well. Giving gives us the ability to connect with others, create stronger communities, and help to build a happier society for everyone. Helping those in need whether it is small acts of kindness or just volunteer work can be very powerful. Once people see the amazing outcomes of just helping those in need no matter how small it may seem, the fewer people we will have in need. Giving back also teaches very important life lessons. I’ve learned to always treat others with kindness and respect no matter what because my kind words can go a long way. The reward at the end is seeing those smiling faces and how grateful they are. I plan to solve the number of people in need, by demonstrating to people the amazing benefits of handing a helping hand can have not only for themselves but for the community and everyone around them! An important role that I have played as a member of a group is giving back. I am currently a member of a club in my community and the goal of this club is to help our community as much as possible. I have supported the overall group's goal by always trying to give back whether that is helping out in a food drive at school or even just starting one ourselves. I have even donated clothes. Giving back to those who are in need is super important to me because I know what it feels like to not have certain things therefore I always try my best to help others and I'm more than grateful to share my fortune with others. Being a member of this club has taught me to never take what I have for granted. I’ve also learned to always treat others with kindness and respect no matter what because my kind words can go a long way. They can turn someone's day around and that honestly makes me feel so honored to be able to just put a smile on someone’s face with just the way I approach and speak to someone. As a club, we want to help as many people in need as we can. Although we have not gotten to everyone, we do not plan to give up. We know we can not do it alone which is why we're always encouraging other members of our community to join. A problem that I would like to solve is the number of people in need.
