Bio

I am pursing a degree in the field of nursing. I have been inspired to due this through watching my mother in her career as a nurse. I was also blessed enough to spend time with my great aunt during the last few months of her life as she was suffering from a brain tumor. I will strive to provide my patients with care beyond the clinical level. I will ensure to advocate for them, and provide them with respect and dignity during such a vulnerable time of their life. I have a goal of becoming a labor and delivery nurse and participating in a trip with an organization to provide individuals outside of the United States with accessible health care. Following this I hope to get my masters degree in midwifery.

I believe the role of a nurse is far beyond providing clinical skills and requires an emotional understanding of what these patients and their families are going through. Being a nurse involves advocating for your patients when they are unable to advocate for themselves and providing them with respect and dignity during such a vulnerable time in their life. When I was growing up my grandparents were the primary caregiver for my great aunt who had a brain tumor that was going to claim her life. As her condition progressed, she began to lose her ability to speak in a coherent manner. During this time, I was one of very few people who could understand her words and translate them for others. I remember sitting with her for hours having conversation and expressing the things she wanted and needed to others. After she passed away she left a lasting impact on me and sparked my interest in becoming a nurse. The hours I spent with her are incomparable to any other time in my life. The feeling of being able to provide her with a voice when she was unable to have one for herself. Nursing is so much more than providing patients with clinical care. I was able to learn this during the time I spent with my great aunt. Nursing requires emotional stability and willingness to advocate for patients and provide them with care that goes beyond being a nurse. Providing them with their voice, advocating for their needs, help preserve their dignity, and giving them respect during a time in their life where they are vulnerable. I believe I can fit well in the nursing role because of my ability to provide care beyond the clinical level and through using the experience with my great aunt to push me to be a better nurse every day that I show up for my job. Nursing is a role that requires empathy, respect, understanding, advocacy, and acceptance. I feel confident that through my experiences these are traits I have inherited and can provide for each patient in my community and beyond. I plan to work with an organization such as nurses beyond boarders to provide care outside of my community. Everyone needs access to healthcare and I believe it is important that I go outside of my community to provide that care. Working with an organization such as this one will provide me with more experience and make me a better nurse. I feel that this would be an opportunity providing me with more skills beyond the clinical level which will make me a better nurse for both the patients in my community and outside of my community.
